  1. The Haunting of Villa Diodati - I completely agree with you. This is a brilliant episode and one of the strongest of the Chibnall era. Oh to have more of this standard. Maxine Alderton proves herself to be an accomplished writer. This is a fantastic ghost story with a good mix of horror and historical. The pacing and production are spot on. The main cast are given the chance to shine especially Jodie. For me this is the most Doctor like she has managed to be. It's interesting to see her Doctor with a true dilemma. The support cast are all given good material to work with. Special mention to Patrick O'Kane who gives a creepy performance as Ashad. As a big fan of the story of Frankenstein this does the origins justice. Overall 9/10
  2. Can You Hear Me? - A vast improvement on the previous episode. This does get off to a slow start but improves through the episode. This does affect the overall pacing of the episode which is a bit up and down. The production is excellent. The writing on the whole is very good. The main issue I have is the same scene as you highlighted. I'll cover that later. I do wonder if this episode suffers from the Chibnall effect. I guess we'll never know how much is the original by Charlene James. The main cast all perform well. It's great to see some character development with a back story for Yaz and Ryan. And it's great to actually see the companions querying the impact of traveling with the Doctor. Of the support cast the stand out performances are Ian Gelder as Zellin and Aruhan Galieva as Tahira. The Eternals are well utilised. An enjoyable throw back to Classic Who with the mention of The Celestial Toymaker and The Guardians. This is always nice to see. The mental health issues are certainly dealt with in a responsible way. This is always a difficult area to cover in a dramatic way but still be respectful and give your message in a subtle way. This episode did very well in this. It's fantastic to know that for someone like yourself who has had to deal with your own mental health issues that you felt this episode spoke to you in a positive way. If people are taking away even an improved understanding then that can only be a good thing. And so to 'that' scene between The Doctor and Graham. I can see where this was supposed to be going. But for me this again demonstrates a lack of understanding of the character of The Doctor by Chibnall and Whittaker. The response to Graham's fears is almost too human - not knowing quite what to say. Now The Doctor may be an alien and may get things wrong when understanding humans (sometimes with comedic effect) but (s)he is never at a loss for words. Here was a perfect (missed) opportunity to give Jodie's Doctor a memorable speech regarding fear, friendship and mortality. But instead she comes across as dismissive. Never be cruel....... didn't work here! Overall 8/10
  3. Life on Mars Series 1. I never watched this when it was originally shown so have taken advantage during the lockdown. An interesting idea for a cop show. Philip Glenister and John Simm () are both excellent. It's well written with a mix of action, humour and sadness. And my Grandad had a car like Gene Hunt's. I am really looking forward to series 2. Overall 10/10
  4. Susan Hill's Ghost Story - A TV film adaptation of The Small Hand. I am a big fan of ghost stories if they are done well and this is done well. Douglas Henshall is marvellous as Adam ably supported by a strong but small cast. This was atmospherically creepy with an unexpected twist at the end. For me easily as good as The Woman in Black. Overall 10/10
  5. Didn't know that. And there was me willing that tiny loin cloth to fall off.
  6. That was an enjoyable second viewing of Frankenstein. I think it worked best with BC as the Creature (a stunning performance) and JLM as Frankenstein.
  7. Arrived today. One friend.... And two foes........ ...... To join my Doctors. My collection is coming along nicely.
  8. Prologue to one of the best Doctor Who 2 parters... Human Nature/The Family of Blood.
  9. That was amazing. Looking forward to seeing the other version to see which is best.
  10. Still the same. Taking every opportunity to post Capaldi stuff.
  11. It's a Friendly Dalek. We have one here.
  12. A bed time story for anyone who likes a soft Scottish accent. And all for charity. And it made me happy. Triple win.
  13. Decisions, decisions. Do I watch Benedict as Frankenstein or Benedict as The Monster? Or both?
  14. A date for the diary this Thursday and Friday at 7pm on YouTube. Never got the chance to see this performance so I will be watching. He either hasn't mastered Zoom or whatever. Or he's trying to avoid us seeing the mess.
  15. I went to a production at the venue about a year ago and have been getting emails since. Usually they go straight in the delete but for some reason this one caught my eye. And at least I have first refusal (like I'm going to refuse) if they decide to re-schedule. Fingers crossed.
  16. They hope to but plan to wait until the situation is more stable.
  17. That email that you hope won't come but deep down you're waiting for arrived today. My Peter event at the end of June has been cancelled. For the best given the current situation. You can't risk anyone's health.
  18. At a quick glance I thought that was Peter in the middle.
  19. A Monster Calls - Probably not one of my better ideas to watch this. Not that this is a bad film. Far from it. An interesting take on some heartfelt issues - terminal illness and bullying. Good CGI. Star turns from Sigourney Weaver, Felicity Jones and an unrecognisable Liam Neeson. Major credit though to Lewis MacDougall as Conor who more than holds his own against established stars to give a wonderful performance. The only issue - too much of a tearjerker to watch in the present climate. But I remembered to gel my hands before reaching for the box of super soft tissues. Overall 10/10.
  20. The Witcher - So I eventually got round to watching this. A dark fantasy with horror and some humour. It gets off to a slow start but persevere (which many of you have) and it builds from there. Plenty of blood, gore and monsters. Henry Cavill is excellent as Geralt of Rivia, ably assisted by the main cast and many well known guest stars. Just don't try to pronounce some of the character names. Looking forward to series 2. Overall 8/10
  21. Praxeus - Two of the main problems I have with the Chibnall era are too many characters in one episode and the unsubtle writing. Unfortunately this episode has both. In a 50 minute episode there is no time to develop any of the characters. The consequence being you don't really care what happens to any of them. The pacing is slow to the point of being boring. The main cast do nothing new. The "scare" moments are any thing but. Definitely one of the weaker episodes of Series 12. Overall 1/10
  22. If there are they certainly don't publicise it.
  23. Not sure there are any such fans on here
