    Huh, that's strange... I'm just looking on the hotel website at booking a room and it says it takes a card to guarantee your reservation but that your card will not be charged in advance. *shrugs*

    The majority of hotels are pay on check in, so why not just book a room, then if/when the con code gets announced, cancel the original booking (at no fee) and rebook using the con rate? That way, you don't have to worry at all
