  1. Here's an idea: Try writing some big signs that say "Get your free talk tickets here from <time/date>". That way, people who won't have read the forums, or not seen any prior information at all, will have some semblence of hope of knowing what they need to do, and when. I might add that this amount of time required to queue for all these tickets needs to be broken down and reduced. I've got paid events to get to early on (again), so with the length of these queues for all these free tickets, I will miss the opportunity to get such for when I don't have something else to do, because I won't have the time to queue for them first thing.
  2. I am angry. I was refused entry into the Record attempt having queued today for it, and having, or so I thought, complied with the instructions on the web site. The reason? I was told I was not wearing a costume. I disagree. I was dressed as Doctor McCoy. I had intended dressing as Dr McCoy on the Saturday before I heard of the Record Attempt So along I went and I queued, completed the form and no one said anything (I wasn't exactly at the front) but when I got the entry point, I was pulled aside. I was told that I wasn't in a 'proper' costume; and that I didn't have a proper TOS blue shirt on. What I had done is altered a T-shirt to look like a smock., as was worn by McCoy in sick bay. I was told in no uncertain terms, that "T-shirts were no allowed" and that "It was on the web site". Oh no it wasn't. The conditions were: 1. All costumes must be representing characters or alien races that have appeared in the Official Star Trek canon releases (TV, Motion Pictures, Novels and Comic Books), any character not from these sources will not be permitted. 2. All costumes must be full, head to toe representations of the chosen character 3. From the time the attempt starts (there will be an announcement in the hall) you must remain in place for 10 minutes. As far as I am concerned, I was in compliance with this. So either I was pulled-out of the queue by an officicious fool who knows less about Star Trek than I do, or the organisers utterly failed to clarify and define what constitutes "a costume". What's all the more annoying is that I have other costumes that I could have brought and worn today instead, but because of either a lack of clarity, or an overly officious individual, I was not part of history today. It's things like this that ruins a person's day. I have to add that overall I have been deeply unimpressed with the communication levels since the start. The best example of this has been finding out about how you get into the free stage events. At first, tickets being required was not mentioned. Then it was, but no information was given about where and how. When you start asking people you get different responses as people don't seem to know themselves - and there also seems to be a prevailing assumption that everyone that has attended an event like this before and 'should know' what to expect. It turns out that some are ticketed, some are not, but you have to work out which are which the hard way. Those that are ticketed are made available at the stage at the beginning of the day, rather than at the beginning of each event, which seems strange to me, as what that means is a mad rush first thing each day to get the free tickets, when surely it makes more sense to give them out first come, first served immediately beforehand - which is something I could have done knowing about at least 36 hours before I did. No, I am deeply unimpressed with the organisers. Yes, they've put this together, and on the whole it is happening, but it is so much more aggravation than it should be, than if there was just a little more consideration and communication and forethought,
  3. Please show respect to other forum users. It is a perfectly valid query, and such a system is actually used at Showmaster's signing events. That is not to say that it will be in place for this event. Frankly Mod, I am not impressed with the poster and as far as I concerned he got what he deserved. I initially regarded it as a somewhat reasonable query (see my original response) except that subsequently, it was revealed that the reason behind it was not actually one of practicality, but of snobbery. "...but why should somebody who has paid a day ticket price be in the same queue as someone who has paid £900 for platinum?" The other 'reasons' came later. Remember, we are talking about getting into the building - in mid/late October - not queueing inside the building, for individual events, which is what you have paid extra for. Some of the suggestions above sound more than reasonable - for once you are inside. I can appreciate that different venues for different occasions will organise things differently (I happen to have some experience, btw), but as many people as there might be at opening time, it's still a massive venue, and even if there are those who are going to turn up hours early just to be first in, I don't see there being any significant waiting around outside that won't be of your own making, that would justify this suggestion of different queues outside for different ticket holders. I would certainly resent it if I had any different treatment at the external doors than any other paying punter, no matter how much more - or less - they have paid.
  4. Again, you assume there will be queues outside, and no I don't think it is a fair or reasonable option to have your own separate entrance/exit, so you don't have to mix with the riff-raff when you come in, when there is no telling when you will turn up - and frankly I think you have a nerve to ask. I mean, who the hell are you? Royalty? Inside is a different matter. You get the priority seating/queueing depending on what you pay for. I don't have a problem with that. But that is not what you asked about, is it.

  6. Why should you get a further discount? You've got one ticket as part of your package and only need to pay £25 to effectively have two, whereas I have to pay £40 for both. Your package has saved you a minimum of £15 already as far as I am concerned. Now you want a bigger discount because it isn't enough for you, and pay only £15 for your second ticket instead of £25. I share their point of view, not yours.
  7. Why do you think there will be a long queue to get into the Excel at all? It's open for hours to enable staggered entry and has multiple entry points, and I for one do not see the point of turning up well before the opening time, just to get in first. Having a super-duper VIP pass does not mean you are going to turn up at the opening time, so why make (say) a day-tripper wait, if they are there at 9am? The queueing systems are for inside. I can't see that there will be anything other than 'first-come, first served', in terms of getting in to the event, as anything more would simply be unnecessary.
  8. It's not a big deal, Dwarfbabe, unless it gets repeated, but I think it is poor co-ordination. If they knew that they could not co-ordinate and make (more or less) simultaneous announcements here and over the weekend at the LFCC, then they simply should have waited a couple of days until they could. Making the choice they have leaves a slightly sour taste in the mouth. That's my issue with it. If it's a one-off mistake or issue, then oh well, these things happen. Just so long as it isn't a sign of things to come...
  9. I'm not so much worried as unimpressed - although they have actually been pretty good with this, until now. It does, first of all, seem odd that they announced about the last two guests (Nana Visitor/Rene Auberjonois) only at this other event on Saturday, without advising people here. They didn't "tweet" about it until today, despite sending tweets from the event on Saturday, but have still not updated the web site, at all, a couple of days later. I might point out that I didn't take the initial reports about the above guests seriously until I saw the Tweet earlier, because it hadn't been announced here at all, until then. Information about guests to date has been announced here promptly, so hearing about them from elsewhere first was somewhat disconcerting. What am I following this site for, if this information is not going to be announced here first? It's a bit of a c0ck-up, really. Badly done. And btw dwarfbabe, like the thread - good work.

  11. Yes I saw your other post. That is disconcerting. I certainly won't book anything for him prior to this being explained/sorted-out. If there is a problem I'm sure that there will be refunds for any photographs booked. I'm not so sure. ~ All individual captains talks/autographs are subject to their attendance, which is subject to their professional work commitments. Should any individual captain be unable to attend the show a substitute talk/autograph will be provided. The above does not mention photographs, or other guests for that matter, but it would imply that a substitution would be offered instead of a refund for those as well.
  12. The time of the opening ceremony has not been announced, but as check-in times for hotels tend to be about the opening time on Friday (2pm), I did enquire about this and was advised that the organisers are aware of the issue and envisage that the opening ceremony will take place later in the day - but presumably before the Klingon Monster Ball party, which is "8.30pm till Late". See page 29 of the FAQ thread. With the Saturday party being "7.30pm till Late", I would imagine that the opening ceremony on the Friday is going to be around 6 or 7pm, but we will have to wait to find out for sure.
  13. Agreed. As with Marc Alaimo, he's played many a 'bad guy' and had multiple Star Trek roles, and it would be interesting to discuss their careers and Star Trek's place within them.
  14. Yes I saw your other post. That is disconcerting. I certainly won't book anything for him prior to this being explained/sorted-out. They have tweeted this now, so yes, it appears that the web site updates are very slow.
  15. Weapons Policy: http://www.startrekl...1-weapon-policy Reading through this, both some ideas and a need for clarity on certain things occurs to me, if I might enquire. First of all, I utterly concur with the advice about covering up or storing any replica weapons en route to the venue. After all, you don't want the likes of this to happen...or worse! Read that and now imagine what London's Met Police are going to be like... However, what about inside with the likes of a replica phaser from TOS or the 2009 movie? I know you can get ones that are brightly coloured and are clearly not real weapons, but what about the likes of metallic looking phasers, that may be plastic - or are indeed metal? Please confirm that you going to be ok with these inside the venue. I'd much rather know upfront than find out from a security guard on the day. Secondly, after reading the following... Now I've never been to a Star Trek event or convention, but the mischevious side of me lit up a bit when I saw that you, whilst somewhat discouraging of them, were open to the possibility of small, mock battles, so long as no one was upset, hurt or put out. The idea of dressing as a Romulan and winding up the Klingons became all the more appealing, especially if I had a small hand-held 'Water disrupter" to fend off any Klingon dha'rudh - all in good fun, of course. The sensible side of me however is very much aware and appreciative of going too far. I certainly don't want to see - or be on the end of for that matter - someone with one of those great big water guns or a projectile launcher, so I am therefore surprised to see that you might tolerate this at all. I would therefore, as a newbie, appreciate some more guidance and experience on how these things go, or are expected to go. I might add that a little area where you can go and have a little water pistol fight might be a lot of fun, especially for any kids, and perhaps some adults, too!
