smcelhenny
For those who participated in the champions league of horror last year how about doing an international version in honour of the world cup 16 films 16 different countries. Who's in? and if so please suggest your films and from what country. e.g Wolf Creek Australian, Ringu Japan, Martyrs France. etc Once we have the best sixteen I will group them and the voting shall commence

smcelhenny
Great one Matthewman and probably the best chance Scotland will ever have of winning a world cup lol. Just thought of Nosferatu from Germany. Troll Hunter from Norway

smcelhenny
great shout both deservedly popular films. Was also thinking Brain Dead(aka Dead Alive) New Zealand. There's so many to choose from for Italy between Fulci, Argento and Bava. I believe Tale of Two Sisters is Korean so that could be in there too. smcelhenny
A good cross section there Andini mate, Never realised that Gate was Canadian. Watched Grabbers last year, great bit of fun. Was thinking Devils Backbone as Mexico representative Excuse my ignorance, but was The Vanishing (original) Dutch?
Matthewman
Funny Games from Austria i believe.
smcelhenny
F**K that was a nasty film Matthew Man, so subversive with the way the main characters keep acknowledging the audience and changing the outcome of scenes when the hostages get the upper hand. How many countries have we got now? We can't be far off now

Also thinking Dead Snow, but that is Norwegian so has to fight it out with Cold Prey!! Plus, what to represent USA and UK?

smcelhenny
That would be the hardest to decide, far too many us and uk horrors to choose from. Do we go with something quintessentially English like a Hammer Horror Film. Does Halloween represent USA as it won the champions league or do we let another film have a shot at glory, or do we have a US film that has an international element to it? GoldenGreen
How about Dracula (1958) for the English entry ? I'd like to see Halloween back representing the USA. I've not really got much idea who else is in the World Cup, are we picking films from countries that are actually in the World Cup Finals, or just from 16 countries as I suspect based on previous World Cups, we might have a bit of a challenge with some of the countries ! smcelhenny
It would just have to be 16 countries as matching them up t the real world cup nations would be a tad hard. Though I would really like to see what a hondoras horror film would be like. So far I make it 1 England (Dracula) 2 Scotland (the wicker man) 3 France (Martyrs) 4 Holland (The Vanishing) 5 Spain (Rec) 6 Italy (The Beyond) 7 Norway (Cold Pray/Dead Snow) 8 Mexico (Devils Backbone) 9 Australlia (Wolf Creek) 10 New Zealand (Brain Dead) 11 Japan (TheRing) 12 USA (Halloween) 13 Canada (The Gate) 14Korea (A Tale of Two Sisters) 15Irealnd (Grabbers) 16 Austria (Funny Games) 17 Sweden (Let the Right One in) 18 Germany (Nosferatu) 19 Russia (Night Watch) 20 Thailand (Shutter) Not sure how best to work this now, shall we do four groups of five or vote between ourselves as to what the last 16 should be? GoldenGreen
Lets have four groups of five.
smcelhenny
If everyone's in agreement with John on four groups of five, I shall arrange a live draw sometime soon Including a live vocal performance from myself of Nessun Dorma, unfortunately no one will be able to hear or see this live performance which will be guaranteed to bring a tear even to my own eyes. Following this song I will announce the groups, the odds, and the fixtures. Time to get patriotic, adopt a country, and watch the films your not familiar with Also we need to decide who goes on to represent Norway out of Dead Snow and Cold Prey. I have to admit I have seen neither (considering my sister in law's husband is Norwegian) so will try and watch both this weekend.
smcelhenny
Norway representative qualifying match Dead Snow vs Cold Prey Same rules as usual, say which film you want to win out of the two and each vote will count as a goal. Votes will be counted after a week and the film with the most votes goes on to represent Norway.

smcelhenny
Watched Dead Snow yesterday, took me about half an hour to fully get into it but once I did I quite enjoyed it and had some very fun scenes, will watch Cold Prey tomorrow now most likely
andini
I would probably go with Cold Prey; as it's spawned 2 sequels to Dead Snow's 1 !!
smcelhenny
The draw for the World Cup of Horror is as follows, and its fair to say they are all very tight groups and I would not like to bet on what the final eight will be. The competition will start The week after collectormania. Will Halloween complete a champions league/world cup double? Will England lose on Penalties yet again. Will Scotland win a world cup for the first time ever (they have every chance with the Wicker Man) Could even a silent movie win (Nosferatu) Hope you enjoy the groups Steve Group A Scotland The Wicker Man Sweden Let the Right One In France Martyrs Thailand Shutter Canada The Gate Group B USA Halloween New Zealand Brain Dead aka Dead Alive Italy The Beyond Holland The Vanishing Ireland Grabbers Group C England Dracula Mexico The Devils Backbone Korea A Tale of Two Sisters Russia Night Watch Norway Cold Prey Group D Japan The Ring Spain Rec Australia Wolf Creek Germany Nosferatu Austria Funny Games
Matthewman
Finally got round to watch dead snow last night. Although I enjoyed it, I still think cold prey is the better film (I also watched Wolf Creek 2 which was awesome).
