Deadlines unfortunately.

Advertising for events in magazines and newspapers is often out of date.

Understandable for monthly magazines with over a hundred pages - quite a few of those pages are all adverts, or adverts and pre-written features only, and are printed early in the monthly production run, which means the artwork may be needed six or eight weeks in advance for preliminary layout. Yes, they do have a long leadtime on their deadlines before publication.

But a daily newspaper is created every day. None of it is pre-printed days in advance. I'd be very surprised if an advert was "fixed in stone" a week and a half ahead. Certainly I know of adverts being changed at shorter notice. Might have cost more though, possibly significantly.

That said, nobody is going to "book" based on ad in today's paper - the online shop is closed. I suppose they could turn up on the door, but it's a bit short notice. Surprised it wasn't run a week or two earlier.
