Mike Awesome commits Suicide

Former ECW world champion Mike Awesome, 42, has passed away. His real name was Mike Alfonso.

 

According to reports, Awesome was found dead on Saturday morning in the Tampa Area. Friends were coming to his home in Tampa to pick him up and go out Saturday night at about 10:30 p.m. and he never answered the door and found him hanging in the home. It is believed the death was due to suicide pending results of the autopsy.

 

In addition to working in the U.S., he also worked for FMW in Japan. He will probably be most remembered as the ECW champion that signed with WCW when he still held the title.

 

Tazz was brought in by WWE to take the title from him, as he jumped to WCW. Awesome announced his retirement from wrestling in early 2006.

 

 

 

For christ sake, another one has gone... its pretty darn horrible being a wrestling fan, you learn to love all the performers and they just keep dropping like flies...

god cant believe it....wrestlers just cant seem to let go off that rush they get in the ring, they dont seem to cope in retirement thats why i think people like ric flair, shawn michaels and undertaker carry on as long as they do

Totally agree with Rocky Balboa - another great wrestler gone. I will always have fond memories of Mikes matches in Ecw especially with spike dudley and masato tanaka

His ECW matches was simply AWSOME, it seems that there are many demons in these peoples lives (which has been documented in a few DVD's) that they either go one way or another that is wrestle for ever ie Rick Flair or go loose there way and go to the wrestling ring in the sky
