A Showmasters single guest signing?

Would it be feasible to for showmasters to arrange a signing around a particular single guest star?

This could be useful on occasions when popular names who would like to attend the dates of main SM events but are unavailable.

Perhaps it would be possible to find a sympathetic and accessible venue, such a specialist shop i'm sure there might be some stores in london that would welcome prestige of a guest signing

I've been to some store signings and they do seem to work quite well crowding kept to a comfortable minimum

What if it were a ticket only event, would you pre-pay ?

Michael Shanks and Chris Judge did a shop signing in Bedford a couple of years back. It was snowing and freezing, there must've been about 150 people outside the shop waiting. That alone can make for a great atmosphere. The guys themselves were so relaxed with everybody, you could tell they loved it. Sometimes a shop signing can work. Other times it can go very wrong.

I'm not sure it fits the SM 'business model'... besides, their shop isn't really suitable for a signing and they don't HAVE a shop in London. To hold an event in a hotel or such place, would be more like a convention, where as their expertise lie in holding 'events'.

I think that in future, they'd like to be holding BIGGER evcents, with more guests, not smaller ones (the evidence being the move from Wembley to Earls Court). I suspect that their ideal event would be to run a British version of the San Diego Comiccon.

thanks guys  sounds encouraging

so do you think people would like these mini events i think they'd be good

when an over seas star like elijah wood in town

Another problem would be actually making a profit on soemthing like this. With just one guest, they'd be unlikely to attract many dealers (if any), so the cost of the venue would have to be accounted for in the price of the tickets. Given as there is only so many auto's one star can do in a day, their income would be limited and I think it'd be difficult to turn a profit when you consider all the costs of bringing a star over.

what shop's this then? where is it? did anyone else know that showmasters had a store? I assume its in Luton if the party ticket receipts are anything to go by

In my best megalomaniac voice (really you've got to hear it it's quite something)

I foresee a time when all celebrity signings no matter how small are conducted by arrangement with Showmasters from a tiny bookstore signing to grand international event all shall bow before the might of the showmasters and in the summers we will fashion meat helmets and dance naked and proud ...oh i am sorry

Anyway point being i don't think a smaller signing would be a come down or in any way diminish what collectormania and comic con has already achieved

Back to your corners guys I don't want bad blood spilt on this thread thanks :P

Anyway i quite like the idea of additional signings on the showmasters calendar there are, as we all know, problems that arise with securing guests for certain dates perhaps this would be a solution

This is a good idea...............especially for someone like Viggo who may like to do something with his art and photography (say Viggo in an art gallery would be a great idea?!)

However saying that, At the Sean Astin book signing in London last November (also a freezing day, is this a must for book signings?) there was alot of people but no where near as many as there is at collectormania - normally you have to queue for hours at collectormania to meet sean......but the book signing was pretty quick.

Also he was really high up, so it was harder to speak to him and you did not get as much as the one to one you get at collectormania........but it was still fab!

So yeah I think it could work for some people, but probably others are better off within the bigger events.

Good idea ford

Sorry, I can't see that happening... the first sort of event (a book signing) would normally be arranged by an agent, publisher or some kind of promoter. Showmasters AREN'T agents or promotors, they are event organisers.

I'm sure an event wouldn't diminish all that LFCC and Collectormania have become, but that's just not what they do.

Grand International events however, well, as I said, I think they have aspirations of being a British (or even Eurpoean) equivalent of the San Diego Comic Con (and good luck to them!)
