Hmmmmmmm some interesting point raised for and against fox hunting.

It is very much catch 22 situation.

Foxes are only doing something that I believe is known as being natural, so in my opinion its up to farmers etc to ensure their live stock are safe.  I see no harm on locking up potential prey at night, seems fair enough considering hens and what not like to roost.  Then let them back out during the day when they do want to be about and about.

As for several people losing their jobs through banning hunting, I don't get what their problem is, they knew it could potentially happen, on top of that I do not see why they should be treated any different to anybody else who loses their job.  This year I am at great risk of losing my job because of things the government want to do.  So what do you do, you get out whilst the goings good.

However I also agree that foxes must be controlled and if I could think of an answer to better the situation I would gladly give it.  It does not matter what you say, someone will always be unhappy about it.  I understand that people are angry at losing their jobs, but they are no different to anybody else.

I have not been to a hunt and I do not have any interest in going to one either.  Although as I said I agree with some points raised, I still find the sport cruel.  Not just for the foxes, but also for the hounds and horses.  If they are not up to scratch then they are killed without a second thought.  Most of the time there is no need to kill the horse, it just needs to stop doing hunting and perhaps retire somewhere.

I would also point out as someone mentioned it in a post, it is now illegal to hunt deer, it has been for sometime now.

Anyways I'm waffling now, but yeah,  I'm for it and the proviso that another method is used that is perhaps more ammicable, if such a method exists.

yeah, horses aren't bread for hunting, and put down if they cant hunt. if they get too old, they are either kept by their original owner or put out on loan to someone.

also deer are protected because they do not pose a threat to anyone's livestock in a direct way. Also, their numbers are a lot lower than foxes.

As for your view that people shoudl just accept their job is going and leave is a bit defeatist tbh. Just because most people have mundain (probably not spelt right) jobs that they wouldn't mind changing, doesn't mean these people also can just jump ship and change so easily. Also a lot of these people will have been brought up with it and very much enjoy their jobs.

but yeah, more serious things to be discussed and sorted n all that

:P

The only problem I have with these people losing their jobs is as I said I am at risk of losing mine this year.

I know its going to happen, its just a case of when really. Which is why I said get out when the going is good. In other words when less people are looking for jobs, this minimizes competiton. you also still have bills etc and families to feed and clothe, redundancy money will only go so far.

Although its a different line of work to hunters/breeders, I can understand where they are coming from on the job front. I just think it would be better for them to look for a another job now, rather than leave it too late.

Oh and yes I love my job, I love it very much, I'll be gutted when it comes to my office being closed and rumour has it, it will be. I am gutted, but s*** happens.

Vamps, I must say I agree with a majority of what you say there. The horses are not bred for hunting however. They are pets, people ride their own horses. If a horse breaks its leg it is put down any way. The ruling in horsey land is: If the horse can't get up then it's put down. Have you ever been to the races? I had to see a horse shot on the track because it couldn't get up.

The dogs however are bred for hunting and every one of them will be put down as a result of the ban.

Rats burrow in our houses, that's natural to them yet we put poison out that kills them slowly?

The point reached it there is no black and white argument to this. Arguments will cross over.

I only have the problem that animals now seem to have more rights to life than humans do. That's what sickens me. I think it was KB who said the government should be spending more time on something else. Why are they suddenly fussing with this? The farmers have been minding their own business for centuries now and then SUDDENLY what they have always done becomes illegal. Why? Why was this dug up? Why not the living conditions of the poorest parts of our country? Or the enemployment of 1000's of people due to the EU move? Why this small thing?

Hey Smaug, sorry I've not read all of the posts following on from mine yet, too tired to read it all.

Glad to see we can agree on somethings. I still think it disappointing that horses are put down so easily. But I do not know anything about horses and quite frankly I wouldn't know if a broken leg on a horse could be fixed, if it can, then I see no reason why the horse can't just be retired.

As for rats etc in the house. Granted some people do use poisin, which in turn is a slow death. I also find this disgusting. I much prefer the humane kind of traps you can buy these days. Less messy and the rat is still in one piece, albeit located to a more suitable habitat. Get this, they even have humane traps for spiders, how cool is that.

As for the dogs, I find that really really sad that all those dogs will be put down. Is there no way they can be trained for other purposes?? Police use maybe?? Just a thought.

I think the reason that this particular issue was taken on by the government is because over the last decade or so, the public are more aware of animal cruelty, they find out about through media, in particular tv, Animal Hospital and Pet Rescue, to name but two.

So because there is a high public interest in it, the government have made it seen that they are doing something about, in addition it gets them more votse come election time. Pathetic I know, but that as I understand it is politics.

Ever noticed how these things come about near election times................?

As for thinking of an answer to the problem, the only thing I can think of is a humane trap. One that is safe and should a member of public be caught in it, have some kind of mechanism that only a human can operate.

Anyways I'm tired now, I'm sure there was something else I wanted to say, but I've forgotton what it was now LOL.

I'm probably going to be hated for this but I am pro hunting. I spent years enjoying falconry and hunting with my buzzard. What people miss is the bigger picture.

If fox hunting is banned, then the sabs will direct their interest at another form of hunting too. In my case when I fly a bird to hunt a rabbit I am teaching it whats natural for it, we trained lots of barn owls at the centre I worked at for release into the wild. It would cripple the bird of prey population if it was banned. And all you lads who like fishing... well that would be highly likely to be next on their list for banning....

Also foxes are still around because of fox hunting... The hunt doesn't always catch the fox and doesn't kill enough to make the species extinct. If it was banned the farmers would want rid of the pests and lay poisons and traps which are less humane, when a pack of dogs catch a fox, it dies within seconds, poison means a slow painful death, trapped animals can lie for days starving to death with a broken neck or leg. If farmers did this it would also render the entire species nearly extinct and we'd only be seeing foxes in zoo's.

Anyway.. that's my say, hate me if you wish but I have valid points over the cute iccle foxey woxeys..

I think we should all hunt Fox. Hunt him until he cant post no more. Then string him upside down outside the local butchers.

Dumbarse, you made a punctuation error there, its can't not cant.

You know what people like you are so mind numbingly dull and boring.
