  1. Because the announcement's been made last-minute, no you don't have to bring a picture. The masquerade and prize-giving usually lasts 1 hour.
  2. We will be hosting cosplay events at Collectormania Gmex 3 in Manchester this weekend! There will be a masquerade both days on the main stage. On Saturday the masquerade will start at 2.30pm. On Sunday it will start at 3.30pm. There will of course be changing and cloakroom facilities provided free of charge for cosplayers. Masquerade entry rules/weapons guidelines are below: **Registration for the masquerade will take place at the cosplay desk from 11am ~ 1.30pm. The prize giving will take place after the masquerade. **It is possible to enter alone or in a group. **If a costume has been entered into the masquerade at a previous Showmasters event (i.e. LFCC or Collectormania events), it may not be entered again unless significant changes have been made or it is part of a new group. However costumes which have been entered in competitions at other events may be entered. **The judging panel will be made up of a mixture of celebrity guests and respected costumiers (this may include fashion designers or people from the media or theatre industry, as well as experienced hobby costumers). It will be mixed, male and female. **All replica weapons and props must be taken to the cosplay desk for inspection upon arrival. Items up to a length of 1.5m will be allowed for floor cosplay, provided they are lightweight and all sharp edges have been rounded off. Larger props may be allowed in the masquerade. **Replica swords are allowed for floor cosplay provided they are 'peace-bonded in their scabbard. They may however, be removed from the scabbard on stage during the masquerade. **Plastic replica guns such as airsoft are allowed provided they have an orange 'flare cap' or are shown to have the magazine removed.
  3. Sorry for my slow reponse guys, been out of the country..in response to your questions: DitzyDalek: sorry this thread is meant to be for questions regarding the cosplay facilities at the shows, but if you repost your question as a separate thread in the forum, I'm sure the other forum members will be happy to advise you :) The-Dark-Knight: don't worry, there will be changing rooms provided so you can get changed in the show. If you need to leave the show, there's usually some kind of hand-stamp. I realise it may not be possible to get your hand stamped dressed as Batman but if you speak with the staff on the door I'm sure they'll be co-operative. liremaer: it sounds fine, just make sure you take it to the cosplay desk upon arrival to be inspected, and please keep it out of sight outside the hall. We can't be responsible if you get arrested LOL
  4. HUGE apologies for the delay with information guys, some things couldn't be confirmed until the last minute, but all the info and the answers to your questions are all HERE
  5. Collectormania 12 will be hosting cosplay events at the Milton keynes event this weekend! On both Saturday and Sunday we will be hosting cosplay make-up tutorials at 12pm and a cosplay competition/masquerade at 2pm. Both will be happening on the Cosplay Stage. There will be of course changing and cloakroom facilities provided free of charge for cosplayers. Masquerade entry rules/weapons guidelines are below: **Registration for the masquerade will take place at the cosplay desk from 11am ~ 1pm. The competition and prize-giving takes place from 2pm ~ 3pm on the cosplay stage. **Please take all props to the cosplay desk for inspection upon arrival. Props up to a length of 1.5m will be allowed for floor cosplay, provided they are lightweight and all sharp edges have been rounded off. Larger props may be allowed in the masquerade. **We regret that as the event is taking place in a shopping centre, NO REALISTIC REPLICA WEAPONS will be allowed.[/size]
  6. Oh cool so you're making that dress with the big furry sleeves! £16.99/metre?!! Gaaah that sounds pretty expensive! Then again it's so hard to find good quality fur for a good price...
  7. Well of course everyone has their own ideas about what 'is' and 'isn't' cosplay, but in my opinion the difference between cosplay and fancy dress is that with fancy dress a person simply wears a costume, whereas with cosplay one tries to 'become' a character by altering their appeareance and mannerisms. For me, cosplay means 'bringing a character to life' so it doesn't matter if the costume is based on a film, anime, video game, music video or whatever, it's the mentality of the cosplayer which counts. There's also a difference in the amount of time, effort and money invested. For example, someone doing fancy dress might be happy to make a Harry Potter costume out of a dressing gown or just buy a costume from a shop, whereas a cosplayer would probably want to make the cloak themselves and spend a lot of time looking for items and making sure the details were right. In my opinion the point where it becomes vague is when cosplayers buy costumes ready-made from sites like eBay or Cospa instead of making it themselves. Personally I think even if it's a shop-bought costume it can still be cosplay if the person tries to act like the character and alters their appearance with make-up, wigs, contact lenses etc
  8. Just waiting for the photographer to finish editing the photos, then will post them up when I receive them :) Unfortunately both our photographers from Glasgow and LFCC have got a bit of a backlog at the moment..
  9. I'd like to go as the Corpse Bride, depends whether I have time to finish it though.. How about you? :)
  10. Answering question from another thread) Thanks for your question. Actually I see no shame at all in wanting to win LOL Yes, there will definitely be a competition at Gmex, details will be posted up here and on the website closer to the time. Hmm I wish there was a video games category, but it depends on how many prizes the sponsors provide and what costumes we get. At the previous 2 events there weren't many video game cosplayers so we'll probably just include video games costumes with the anime and manga category for now and see how it goes. Best of luck with your costume and feel free to ask if you have any more questions :)
  11. I've posted the answer in the Ask Me Anything thread
  12. Hi guys! I'll be the cosplay co-ordinator for Gmex, it's exciting to see so many people are planning to come in costume! And so many different series too No idea what costume I'll be wearing, going to so many events this year I can't plan more than a few weeks in advance @_@; but I'll definitely be in cosplay! By the way, why not take this discussion over to the Cosplay Forum? P.S. Anne Boleyn? That would be AWESOME
  13. As Lady said, just come along in your costume I'm sure you'll meet lots of nice people :) We're having more events and competitions now for costumers so that might be a good way to meet people too, which we'll post details of later in the month.
  14. Hi Cookie! Was lovely to meet you at LFCC ^^ Realised I can't come to FACTS this year (not enough budget & it clashes with another comics event in UK) boo but I hope to come again next year. Will mail when I have a bit more time ^^
