  1. I'm going to add my thoughts to this, because a day or two ago I was contacted by a friend who wanted to know if I was still going because she was planning on, and wanted to know which ticket I'd bought, blah blah. When I told her it had been cancelled her first reaction was "Oh - the website doesn't say that." I told her it was announced in the forum, but she made a very good point when she said that the forum is not every bodies first port of call, if they even know it exists - so I do think you need to update it; because it's a bit wrong that people still think it's on, and indeed can still go through the whole process of buying tickets.
  2. One question: Is the hotel informed? I sent them a cancellation of my reservation, mentioning that the whole event is cancelled but so far they didn't answer..... I rang them to cancel the reservation, and they told me it had already been done by the organisers of the event, with no charge to my card, so it should be done; but just double check by ringing their reservation line.
  3. Yeah, I'm totally gutted as well. Was really looking forward to it. *sobs* But what can you do? At least now we know, though I'd rather have logged in today to see that it was going ahead.
  4. Need insider information as we are not being given anything from Showmasters................... We do indeed - but I'll be attending regardless as I'm booked into the Radisson so I can't cancel without it costing me the price of my stay - if I'm paying for the hotel I might as well attend.
  5. Oh I've given up on my dress. As said further up, I'm having to hand stitch it because I don't own a sewing machine of my own (and my student budget isn't quite extending to buy me one - it's on the Xmas wishlist though *grin*) and my hands are murdered at the minute. Damn health. lol. So, I'll just be wearing geeky D&D t-shirts instead. *nods*
  6. So are you going to 'do a TFF' and allow people to 'compete' to be one of the people who get turned into orcs or whatever? That would be fun. Though that said, just watching it will be awesome.
  7. Well I am sure I could twist it enough to turn LOTR into an academical discussion relating to my degree. *nods* Not that I want to, but *shrugs* Could be quite amusing....... But yeah - November. Woot. Must remember to clear my credit card before I arrive though, so I can pay the hotel bill. lol.
  8. The Weta Janitor? lol. And I'm about as well as I could possibly be considering the circumstances, but thank you for asking. Back to uni I go though; though it's another 3 years for me because I've withdrawn from my old course and started a new one. Can't wait for November though.
  9. Hiya FLM - My life is one big ball of stress at the moment. lol. I won't bore you with the details but I can't wait to escape back to university again. And yeah, it wouldn't be the same without Shore's music. I also hope they get some of the Weta team there, such as Richard Taylor....but then again, Weta are very busy with productions at the moment so I'm guessing it won't happen.
  10. Yeah - I will worship SM forever if they get Howard Shore. I love his work. *nods* Can't wait to see who the new guest is though - hope it's the first of many.
  11. Lady T - if you go on Ebay, or any fabric store, look for Sari material. It's always heavily embroidered and you can chop it up as you will to make trims out of it. *nods* What I've always done when I can't manage the beading and can't 'persuade' anybody to do it for me. edit - okay, that'll teach me to read posts more thoroughly before I answer. lol.
  12. Hmmm, when I tried to book a room online, I put it in the 'promotion codes' bit thingy, but as it told me no rooms we available I ended up ringing the reservation hotline anyway.
  13. Ahhhhh. Shows how much attention I pay to film premières doesn't it? *grin*
  14. Now, this is going to get me lynched, but why on earth would you get trampled by Harry Potter fans on the 2 - 6th July? Neither the film nor the book is out then........or are some actors appearing at a con or something?
  15. It's quite easy to do on the tube - you get the Piccadilly Line; and you get off on the last stop before the Heathrow terminals; or so I'm told. *grin* Haven't tested it myself - but as said above; DON'T use a taxi; the price will be horrendous.
  16. I'm afraid to say GG that my health doesn't permit me to drink much. I'll drink the odd drink, but I struggle to walk as it is whilst sober, so could you imagine me whilst drunk? That said; I'll join you in drinking - until of course my singing (caterwauling) scares you back to your rooms.
  17. Ah okay, sounds good. And labyrinth hotel? Sounds like it's right up my alley; I get lost everywhere. It's actually quite embarrassing at times. *grin* That said (to try and keep this thread on topic for just a minute), if it turns out that I have to attend the con in a wheelchair (I'm hoping my health will be nice and stay as it is, but it's 6 months yet, so you never know) I will let you know in advance. Though here's to hoping I can run around and pretend to Hobbit Dance. hehehe.
  18. According to their website - they have very few 'single' rooms. So, yeah, I guess that they're putting us in double rooms, though just as long as they only charge me for a single, and there is only me in that room (if it is indeed a twin) I don't mind. *g*
  19. Hey, I'm not that bad - haven't quite gotten on the list of 'extreme LOTR fans that are not (under any circumstances) to be allowed into the building' yet. Oh and Jamila - did you get put in a room with a double bed when asking for a single, or a twin room? I got shoved in a room with a double bed. Not quite sure whether that's there idea of single or not, but the price is still the same so I am not complaining.
  20. Well why don't you volunteer to crew at this one. *g* I would put in an 'application' to be considered nearer the time, but a.) I'd like to see the con. and b.) can't guarantee my health. *g* And interesting discussions.........hmm.......well.........unless you count the cardboard castles I think we're all out of interesting discussions.
  21. How much for a JD and coke?! *whistles* Wow, now that is expensive. Good to hear there's a local pub though (I don't like McDonalds so I wouldn't be eating there even if you paid me), in case SM don't go in for a Meal Ticket.
  22. Aye, I don't drink much either any more, though I have done in the past and done some admittedly stupid things whilst totally sloshed. But yeah; part of the whole con. experience is meeting other LOTR fans - it's also always awesome to meet people you've spent months (or in the case of the other forum I'm on, years) speaking with, and at a con. you finally get to meet them face to face. And being able to wear costumes without people looking at you oddly. Well, okay, I've lost too much weight to fit into the only costume I have, and I can't make a costume for myself so I might not be coming in one this time (unless I buy one)..so *shrugs* I'll just have to buy Plaza garb instead. lol.
  23. Well if I can't find you FLM, I'll know to come looking for the box under the bridge! hehehe. And as innocent as the comment was, can I just simply suggest that what was said in the thread shut down is left in that thread - because it wouldn't do to kick start the whole 'discussion' again, would it?
  24. Yeah, I can't wait to meet everybody - it'll be awesome, whether or not we're staying in the Radisson or not. I remember when I was at the FF, and most of the group I travelled with were in the Hostel of Doom, where as one member of the group had checked into the hotel (I think it was the Hilton) next door to the Wembley Conferance Centre. Even then, most of our group was in and out of his room, and we had an awesome time (apart from the member who got food poisoning poor thing), so for those who aren't in the Radisson, at least you'll be on the same road. And costume making? *pouts* After the FF I promised myself I would make my own costumes for the next con I went to, but I can't. *wails* Well I could, but it would be comical to see my results seeing as though I don't own a sewing machine (and I'm 200+ miles away from my mother who owns one), and I currently don't have the hand/eye coordination to handsew it. *pouts* Hope your costume is going alright though Elwyn!!
