  1. A true Radio 2 Simon Bates moment if ever I saw one.
  2. You're terrified?!!! I'm thinking about the poor hamster you're about to eat in that sandwhich! What's poor little Hammy ever done to you, eh? Now, put the poor little guy back in his cage and let him sleep.
  3. Ok, ok. . here goes a crash course in "Dr Who for the Uninitiated". 1. Dr Who is an alien. He is a Time Lord from the planet Galifrey. 2. Every so often during his lifetime he regenerates. A nifty idea bought about by the need to periodically change the actor who plays the character. 3. Dr Who travels through space and time in his spaceship called the TARDIS. This stands for Time And Relative Dimensions In Space. His spaceship, cunningly disguised as a 1960's Police telephone box is bigger on the inside than it is on the outside. That's where the "relative dimensions in space" thing comes from. 4. Dr Who travels to different planets in different times, usually meeting nasty aliens hell bent on planetary or universal destruction and or armageddon. Look up Daleks, Cybermen, Autons, Sea Devils and The Master amongst others. The Master was an evil Time Lord who tried to kill the Doctor. Think that just about sums it up. Hope that was helpful. 5. Dr Who always travels with at least one companion. This is where Billie Piper comes in in the new series.
  4. Hey, don't knock being a geek! Don't must of us here live in Major Geekdom, a little town on the internet superhighway, just north of J11 on the big server in the sky? . . .(hums "That's where I'm gonna go when I die")
  5. Good God! How old are you, Dom?! Even I can only just about remember the original. I can't think of any of the actors names who were in it though.
  6. Finally something David and I agree on! Robe, since you seem to have the all important inside knowledge, can you confirm if the Smash robots above, Cybermen or not, are to be seen in the new series?
  7. I know they're not Cybermen! Doh! I've seen a photo of the new series Cybermen, and they look like the robots from the old Smash adverts! There was a feature on my AOL browser with photos of the Doctor's new enemies.
  8. I have to admit that when I went to my first con, I was amazed that I had to pay for signatures. Now that I've stumped up a good couple of grand over the last few years, it seems stupid to have ever expected to get signatures for free.
  9. And when the g*ts go cancelling their two best guests and then get a bit shirty when you want to swap your tickets around it doesnt help either. Hasnt given me a whole heap of faith in our American friends, makes me appreciate SM et al all the more The lesson here is never buy your tickets beforehand, especially not gold, when you can buy them on the day if and when you decide it's worth going. Personally, I have no sympathy for people who bought gold tickets for this event. I actually got my money back from Creation for their first London show in 2003. If you write them a snotty enough e-mail you might get lucky. However, where as I had them bang to rights for failure to disclose important information, it does say on their website that guest appearances are subject to work commitments. Yes, Creation are a stropy bunch of w*ankers who put on very expensive and very lacking in content shows. But you have to turn the tables on them in whatever way possible when they screw up.
  10. Have just seen the last 15 mins. It improved slightly with some decent special effects, but was still a bit cliched. We shall see. . . . .
  11. And why oh way do the Cybermen now look like the robots from the old Smash potato tv ads?!! They look laughably crap!
  12. Oh yes I try to collect 'horror' autographs too and I would kill to see a Predator cast reunion A Predator reunion, while being a good idea, would require the attendance of Arnold, and I really don't expect that to happen, especially given his current political career. And am I the only one who remembers the LFCC2 Aliens reunion turning out to be a damp squib? The guests were good, but very few of them had queues. From what I saw, only Michael Bien and Yaphet Kotto did any decent business, probably because of other more famous roles they've played. As for action stars. . .Bruce Willis would be good. How about a Die Hard trilogy reunion? That would certainly get me to Earls Court. Willis, Rickman, Reginald Veljohnsen (sp?), Bonnie Bedelia, William Sadler, Dennis Franz, Samuel Jackson and Jeremy Irons. Now THAT'S a lineup!
  13. My "spam licking" comment wasn't aimed at people who say they like a specific guest when it's announced. I've said that plenty of times before. My comment was aimed squarely at the people on this forum (and they and many others know who they are!) who shriek "I love you / thank you Showmasters" at every announcement for a guest they've heard off, regardless of whether or not they actually give a rat's spam. People who then actually don't like the annoucement, and who may have legitimate & constructive reasons for doing so, are afraid to air their opinions in a mire of what is nothing other than propaganda. The fact that most of the Dr Who annoucements had very little response from these people gives a good indication of their age.
  14. Have now seen the first 30 mins and I have to say it was all a bit tiresome. Silly, cliche ridden script, characters and some laughable scenes, mainly Billie Piper's boyfriend being eaten alive by a wheelie bin before turning in to a plastic zombie, having his head ripped off, and the body running amok demolishing restaurant tables. Ecclestone's playing the Doctor as a comedian, but he comes across as doing a bad Eric Morcombe impression without Ernie Wise to fall back on. Having seen a full trailer on BBC1 earlier, it looks like it might improve, but Ecclestone needs to play it differently. Maybe I just secretly prefer the old days of carboard sets and even more terrible special effects. One thing I don't think this new series is going to be is scary.
  15. I'm seriously considering not going at all now. I'm moving house on the following Monday, so could do with staying at home that weekend anyway. Might save my money and see if I can get to **********, But it would be nice to see Frakes and Spiner on stage, although I doubt it'll be together. So might just go on the Saturday, but the whole event's really pretty poor now. The people who bought gold tickets at £265 each must be spitting blood.
  16. And what's so wrong with people giving their honest opinion when it doesn't lick the backside of the organiser? Too many people on here clap like seals regardless of the quality of fish they're fed. Thankfully, some of us are at last voicing our opinions. It's amazing what an anonymous poll can do for displaying honesty.
  17. Hoorah! At least this project is getting further off the ground after Tom De Santo's initial involvement.
  18. If you don't already know, Colm's cancelled.
  19. Only another 100MB left to download on my little dial up connection. Was quite chuffed as I downloaded 240MB last night. But Colonel, the question is "Is it any good even without all the final special effects?"
  20. I've downloaded the first few minutes of the first Ecclestone episode. I can't belive the BBC haven't reworked the theme tune! They've used the same old crackly Hartnell/Troughton era version! ARGH! All looks a bit too modern for those of us old enough to remember the cheese and cheapness of the old series, but I shall download the whole episode and see what it's like.
  21. If you want DS9 guests, you have to see them when and where they appear. You can't just wait for Showmasters to get them. Nana appeared in London just over a year ago, Armin was at Docklands last year (was also at C4, I think), Sid's made a load of London appearances over the last few years, Cirroc was at LFCC1, Rene was at C4, and Andy Robinson, Casey Biggs, Marc Alaimo and Jeff Combs have all made appearances in the UK in the last 2 years. And Colm Meaney is appearing in London on 3rd April for a very rare con appearance. So, look around and see them when they are within distance because you can't count on one organiser all the time.
