hey there people I need some help and advice please!

some one I know lost alot of weight using weights so I have decided to check it out!

I've never used weights before in the gym (preferred the rowing machines when I could afford to go  ) so I'm looking for some general info, the best ones to buy, the cheapest place to get them, if there are different ones for guys n gals that sorta thing!

thanks for any replies I get :P

That seems so odd that your friend lost weight by using weights, if anything you gain weight for the increase in muscle mass...

If you want to lose weight find an effective diet, thats what works best...

I use weights alot, I started off by using some really light Dumb Bells, and then started increasing the weights as I went along...

It soon works out, but I found I put weight on as I was using a lot of muscles and they all got bigger!

Dont push yourself either, just do small amounts more regularly than a large amount of weight lifting at one time...

Yeah, what Rockybalboa said. Generally a good way to loose weight is a combination of a good diet and exercise.

If you want to generally tone or build up muscles then weight training is the way to go.

I run with weights around my ankles and wrists. Not only does it improve my running (making it harder for me to run so my performance increases, much like running in sand), it helps tone muscles as well as it's almost like weight lifting every time I raise a foot or hand.

But yes, diet and work out come hand in hand!

The only way to loose weight is to burn more calories than you consume, eg. if u eat around 1500 calories you would need to burn at least 1600 to loose weight sorta thing. weights can give you big muscles, but only if you use big weights, if u use small ones, such as the ankle n wrist ones like neoroid mentioned or the aerobic weights that nell mentioned, these will help you tone up your muscles so that bits dont wobble so much (if indeed they wobble in the 1st place) so basically eatin the right foods and doing plenty of exercise is the best way. you dont have to live on salad leaves tho or anything, just make sure you look for products that contain complex carbohydrates instead of simple ones, example: brown rice= complex carbs, white bread= simple carbs. Complex carbohyrdates are like slow release,so if u ate sum complex carbs in the morning u will get a slow steady release of carbs to see u throo til lunchtime. if u just eat a choccy bar it will give u a quick burst of energy, making ur bloody sugar rise quickly, which will then mean it will drop quickly so u feel the need to eat more sugary things to get it back up again. if u eat complex carbs or low Gi food then it shud stop you snacking and things which will help u loose weight. also, make sure you eat a good breakfast, this kick starts your metabolism which will help you burn calories etc easier
