Sigmund Jähn, 74, was the first German in space. In 1978, Jähn, at the time a lieutenant colonel with the air force of the communist East Germany, orbited the Earth on board the Soviet space station Salyut 6.

I know there was a problem with visas once, but have any Russian cosmonauts been asked over this time?

Can't we make out that they're big Space 1999 fans or something?. :D

I think so, because the Commander of the Moonbase Alpha before Koenig was a Russian. A very loose link but fine by me. :D

His contact details are as follows:

Sigmund Jahn

Fontanestraße 35

D-15344 Strausberg

Germany

If we all wrote inviting him, I bet he'd come - come on Showmasters - we've had first space walker and first British woman - how about first German?
