  1. Are you welching out AGAIN on dressing up girl?!!!! Geez.... after our conversation that time I spent an entire week making a hobbit costume.... and what did you do???? Huh? huh? NOTHING!!! And dont think that having an 8 week old baby was an excuse Hmmm, I might have to make a little hobbit costume this year too cos it seems a shame to not dress up, HINT HINT!!!! Yes Ian dances very well indeed...I hope there will be plenty of input from the Tolkien Society at RC UK! Hey Ian, if you happen to be reading this .... "But it comes in pints!" (One of my favourite quotes from you at TFF04!) Rosie X
  2. Hobbit dancing is LOADS of fun!!! I had the pleasure and privilege of dancing with both The Tolkien Society and also Sarah Mcleod and Cameron Rhodes...they were hilarious and both very good teachers! Rosie
  3. Hobbit dancing - make up demo - costume parade - team competition... copy of TFF much? I think you will find all of these elements are also to be found at another show Germany... the original LOTR Con in Europe which is now in it's 6th year, and as this is a collaberation between another show and Showmasters I wouldnt really say it is a copy of TFF - more of an extension of Ring Con. Besides... what else would you expect to do at a convention? Rosie X
  4. From past experience of SM shows and other Cons, IF (and I will emphasise IF !!!!) there is still signing time available after the gold, silver autographs are fulfilled, and IF the guests are willing to spend more time signing, you should be able to buy extra autographs.... at a price It all depends on how many gold and silver tickets are sold and how many hours a guest wishes to spend signing. Hope that helps! Basically start saving your pennies now, cos you're going to need them!! Rosie x
  5. The emails that never get answered you mean lol You know - this kind of post seems to popping up on the another show thread more and more often....can't help wondering what is happening behind the scenes, cos it sure isnt happening round here is it?! There's a number of e-mails from the period I was away which are, as yet, unanswered, largely because it takes time to work through the several thousand e-mails which came in during that time while at the same time handling the preparations for all our upcoming shows, another show included. I know conventions pretty well - before working for Showmasters I helped run more than a dozen conventions, with talks, parties, fancy dress competitions, parties (with both live bands and djs, sometimes one or other, sometimes both), make-up demonstrations, etc.; assisted at varying levels at over 50; and have attended more conventions than I count (I lost track when it went into 3 figures). Many of our regular crew come from a background of working conventions. We know what bits are similar to signing events, and we know what bits are different, and we are not inexperienced at this. As you say, our schedule is hectic, but we do have several things in the pipeline, not just guests, and we will endeavour to finalise arrangements so we can start announcing them soon. Regards Stuart Stuart, Thank you for such a prompt response - it's good to know you are out there reading our posts. I too have experience in organising VERY large events with multi-national speakers, demonstrators, exhibitors. Also of building displays, setting stages and the complicated subject of ticketing structures, so i really DO appreciate what is involved and certainly don't doubt the capabilities of SM and Dirk to pull off an event to remember. That was never my point... only that after looking around the rest of the upcoming events threads, it seems like another show uk (and Gmex too) have increasing numbers of people asking what is happening because there has been very little offical input for sometime and we are feeling a little neglected and un-loved. However, I will stand firm and say that in my experience, convention go-ers are a different breed of fan from autograph collectors and like to plan ahead, (to the very last detail usually!) whereas collectors seem happy to "drop in" if there is someone who's autograph they need. Lets face it... a convention is a very involved event and is usually much more costly than a signing event so it is a much bigger commitment for us and we need to know it is going to be worth it. I will look forward to hearing your announcements about another show UK! Best wishes! Rosie
  6. The emails that never get answered you mean lol [/quote You know - this kind of post seems to popping up on the another show thread more and more often....can't help wondering what is happening behind the scenes, cos it sure isnt happening round here is it?! There is only 5 months to go before the event, and it would be nice to have at least some idea of what treats lie in store for us. SM are experts at signing events, but conventions are a totally different ball game and seem to attract a different breed of fan - the kind who likes to plan their weekend, and costume and which guests they are going to see etc etc. I sincerely hope everything is going to plan....and pray that SM find time in their already hectic schedule and remember to tell us all their good news before people give up on the event due to lack of information! R xx PS. You gotta get Thomas Robbins - just think... Smeagol and Deagol together doing a panel - it will be a riot!!!
  7. Spaced was one of the best series I have ever watched... even though every episode left me wondering what on earth it was all about. Getting the cast to do a "group" talk would be just amazing....they playy off eachother so well! Rosie
  8. Ahem. I don't think you're allowed to plug other organisers' events on these forums... Well RingconUK is supposed to be a collaberation between Showmasters and another show so it's not really plugging a rival event is it?
  9. I will also have to miss that signing... Alan is from my part of the country so why on earth can't we have some of his book signings down here?!!!!! GRRRRR I hope you get the chance to meet Alan one day - you won't be disappointed! Rosie xx
  10. Hi Dirk and Welcome to the forums. I would just like to say that I had a fantastic time at Ring Con last year (loved it so much that I'm going again this year!!) and I have high hopes for Ring Con UK. It's great to hear from you on the forums and I sincerely wish you a huge success for this event!!! Best wishes, Rosie xx
  11. I think it's more to do with a lack of communication for a few weeks, rather than a panic about the hotels. With the event already moved dates, cancelled, reinstated and moved again, and only one guest announced so far, I can understand that a lot of people are concerned whether this event will be happening at all, (I have my fingers, eyes, toes, legs crossed that everything is fine!!!!) and are just looking for something from Showmasters to give a little reassurance that everything is still ok - especially everyone who has already bought their tickets. Like Brandinschick, I am holding off getting my ticket for a little while, cos even though I have met a lot of the LOTR actors, stuntmen, WETA crew etc, I was still considering getting a silver ticket. But with only one guest announced so far, I want to be sure that I am spending my hard earned cash wisely!! I totally agree that there are plenty of other hotels in the area and if anyone is really worried about accomodation, then make a provisional booking so you know you have somewhere to stay. Hotels dont usually charge you until you arrive and you can cancel the room without penalty until quite close to your check in date (check this is correct for your hotel BEFORE booking!!!!) R xxx
  12. You all got there before me... I saw this advertised on Amazon the other day and was very excited!! In total agreement about Alan Lee - you couldnt wish to meet a nicer man - very gently spoken and humble despite his amazing acheivements. I still have a little space on my shelf for more Tolkien books so off we go on another order. Rosie xx
  13. Having been on the flip side and part of the organisational team for a several large events, I do understand how much work is involved.... however.... a little communication with "the punters" doesnt go amiss. Especially when you've gone and said you will be giving out news in a few days.... I'm trying hard to not join the masses baying for blood here.... but any news about Ring Con UK would be good - even if it is just boring stuff. It seems to have been a real struggle to get this event off the ground which is really sad as there is still plenty of enthusiasm on the boards for it. So, please Showmasters.... remember us all here dangling on a thread waiting for information.... Rosie
  14. Hey Guys, SM will get those discount codes to us soon I'm sure. They are probably doing some hard negotiations with the hotel to get us a good discount. We're all in the same boat here (as I can't imagine many of us can afford to book rooms at the Radisson without a discount!!!! LOL) so it's not like the place is going to be fully booked before we get the discount codes. Anyway, as it is at Heathrow, there will be lots of hotels in the vicinity which may offer a cheaper alternative (and also quieter!!) for everyone who is on a limited budget. Rosie xx
  15. Rachel you always look so beautiful in anything you wear!!! I loved the one you wore for the competition in Germany last year and I do hope you sing again I'd be in a right dilema if I had to chose one of your gorgeous dresses, you put so much time and effort into your clothing. I can't wait to see if Rosie will dress up this year - personally I still think we should all go as orcs then we don't have to worry about hair, makeup or even washing......on second thought.......! Lisa x x Orcs????? I thought the plan was Dwarves LMAO!!!! I do want to dress up again... really need to re-work the hobbit outfit and do one for Titch. But I still want to make an elven gown. Let's face it... at 5ft 10" I'm way too tall to be a hobbit arent I?!!! Rosie x
  16. I know I've already posted my views on this thread.... I have just one small request.... please consider us parents for this show. I don't just mean on ticket prices, but on facilities and seating arrangements too. If seats are allocated by number (as they are at Ring Con), I would prefer to be one row further back if it means the seat is child-friendly (ie on the end of a row so you can dash to the toilet, or escape if the child is noisy, or just have your pram next to you). We don't want preferential treatment...just dont forget we exsist and WILL be at RingCONUK too!! I'm praying the Edward Radisson will have baby-changing facilities in at least one of it's public toilets... and will also have "wheelchair access" not just for people who use wheelchairs but also suitable for parents who need to bring a pram. We are after all bringing with us the future generation of Con-goers and a good experience now will mean we continue to bring children with us until they are old enough to come on their own. I happily tell everyone that I went to G-Mex last february and had a great experience with my daughter who was only 7 months old. People were considerate (very helpful actually!!) and there were adequate facilities for changing and feeding her. Keep up the good work showmasters, I've been impressed so far!! Rosie
  17. Callum will never forgive you if you leave him at home again!!!! LOL Fantastic news about the first guest announcement! I found Andy very interesting last time I met him..hope he's going to bring the gimp suit and show us how they created gollum!! With a little luck Rebecca will be awake to give Andy a big smile and some cheek this time too - she was asleep last year and missed him. Roll on the next announcement! Rosie & "Pepper"
  18. No contest for me!!! I don't carewhat else ison that weekend I'm coming to another show UK!!!!!! Rosie x
  19. There is one thing I would love to see at RC UK... and that is a sword-fighting workshop like the one that is run at Ring Con. I was desperate to have a go but was worried I would be instructed in German..... and I'm not very good at German. Oh... one other request... the Ringstars Thrill Ride Show.... I dont think England has seen anything like this before....I was blown away by it!! I'm not suggesting that you make the UK event to be a clone of Ring Con... but those were two fantastic parts of it which I think would give RC UK the"wow factor"!!!! I think everyone is fascinated by stunts so maybe a stunt demo or talk about what it is like to be a stunt actor? Oh boy.... I'm so excited about the prospect of another LOTR event...someone shut me up pleeeeeease!!! Rosie xx
  20. I've never seen ANY event do a payment scheme. but if you don't ask then you wont get. I'm starting to save now cos I'm definitely coming. My credit card may hate me for it, but it's got to be done - how often does an event like this come to the UK?!!!! Rosie x
  21. Hmmmm.... I can only dream of going as an elf....unfortunately I am definitely hobbit-shaped (but not hobbit height). Maybe if I work at it really hard I will be elf-shaped by November Methinks not LOL R x
  22. WOW!!! What a great potential line-up of guests!! My vote has been cast and now I will wait eagerly to hear who is coming to RC UK. Will be great to see old friends again - both guests and con-goers. I am feeling thoroughly spoilt this year - Ring Con Germany then Ring Con UK.... within just a few weeks of eachother. Think I need to pinch myself - I must be dreaming!! R x
  23. I need to re-work my hobbit costume and also make one for my little girl. I think she will be old enough to manage a hobbit costume this year. I guess I can go as Rosie Cotton and Rebecca can go as Elanor.... now if I can just get hubby to grow his hair a little and dress up as Sam it will be perfect Rosie
  24. Well this is excellent news!!! At least now we know what we have to look forward to and how much we need to save to get the ticket we want. The prices seem fair for what you are offering, and I will look forward to meeting old friends - both guests and con-goers. Yippeeeeee!!!! It sounds like there are lots of great activities planned and I for one will be taking part in as much as I can!! Time to get out the sewing machine I think and also to plan a costume for my little girl.. now what can I dress a 2 year old in? ????? LOL Watch out Marc - your Hot Brit chicks are eagerly awaiting your arrival - hope you're ready for partying hard!!! Rosie XX
  25. Fantastic news! Two days is better than none I suppose, and I'm sure it will be a fantastic 2 days!!! Thanks to everyone at SM and Fed Con who are making this happen finally!! Rosie x
