  1. Don't get me wrong, I want this event to happen. I love me some LotR geekness and dressing up for the weekend. I think John Rhys Davies is a fab guest, and I loved meeting him afew years ago. He was very accomodating and friendly. I don't go for the guests, I go for the atmosphere and to have a good time. Some of the "smaller" guests and extras have been more entertaining over the years, and it is a shame that they are missing from the line up. With less than two months to go, the outlook doesn't look good. I hope that we will see some info or updates soon!
  2. I too am concerened at the lack of info about this event. If it's going to get pulled, I would rather know sooner than later so I can make alternative arrangement for my weekend off. I know that there was a similar even planned a few years ago which got ganked. I want this event to happen, but I just can't see it at this late stage.
  3. I just want to say that I DO want this event to happen, but I am being realistic. Two months is not long enough. You could hardly put together a garden fete in that time, never mind a con like this!
  4. Finally, SM respond!! But I am afraid it is too late. You can tell by their post that they think, or possibly no longer want this event to go ahead. I have already made arrangements to go to another show in Germany, and it is going to cost me LESS to buy tickets, fly and stay over there than it will be for us to go to London. I still want this event to take place, and I will attend if it does (as I spent £300 on tickets!!) but I will never attend another SM event as I have been appalled by the treatment (or lack of it) SM have given us all. If I treated my customers this way, with no news about their benefits etc, I am sure I would no longer have a job to go to!! Anyways, I would like to see all three guests as I have never met any of them, but it is all about the lectures and other aspects of the con that I go for. Without the Tolkien Society et al, I am afraid that this con will be seriously lacking. This con have been on the skids since it started, being postponed once and no announcements for months and now this. I am disapointed as SM and angry at myself too for (stupidly) buying tickets early on. I welcome a full refund if (when??) the event doesn't take place, and I feel sorry for those who will lose money on airfare and hotel deposits etc. I am sorry if this post is hugely negative, but I am afraid that I have just lost all hope that it will go ahead. I enjoyed both TFF's so much and was disapointed when they ended. If this event folds, I believe that there will never be another LOTR event in the UK.
  5. I don't really go for the guests, I go for the atmosphere and the workshops etc. It is going to be hard to create these if there are no experts there to run the workshops, or no people to attend them! I so want this to go ahead, but as I said before, I would rather know sooner so I can go to Germany instead. I have even booked the time off for another show Germany to make sure I can go at short notice!
  6. Well, another show Germany is in 4 weeks, and I would like to know asap if there will be a UK event or not. I don't want to miss out on the German one to find out later that there wont be a UK one! I have worked out the costs, and it will cost less to go to Germany than it will to go to London, so it's feasable for me to go. But I am stil hoping that Showmasters will pull something out of the bag and soon!!!!
  7. I agree. I really want this event to happen, but I now believe that it wont. If that is the case, I would rather know sooner so I can make alternative arrangements!
  8. I have just visited the another show Germany website, where they have declared that they have had very little ticket sales in the last two months, so now are introducing guests from other films, namely PotC! That is great that they are expanding, but I do wonder if they are experiencing less ticket sales because we are all holding on to find out if another show is actually going to happen over here. They are also offering more bi-lingual events to open more up to those visiting from the UK. Possibly to tempt us over there to the German event? I don't know, but I am beginning to wish that I wasn't so hasty to buy tickets so I would have more options now...
  9. Ok, so I'm being as patient as I possibly can, but I think we all need, and deserve some news! I really want this event to go ahead, but if it isn't I would rather know asap so I can make arrangements to attend another show in Germany instead. I can't afford both as we are saving to go to NZ next year, so I need to make a choice. I bought two silver tickets as soon as they were released in February -£300 that Showmasters have had of mine since then, and I am disapointed in the lack of info that has been given since then. There is only 10 weeks until the event, and I would like some answers! I have never attended a Showmasters event before (but I did attend both TFF's and another show last year) and I am afraid that this is not shaping up to be a great introduction to Showmasters events. I am hoping that they will release some info soon so we can all breathe a sigh of relief!
  10. I am really excited about this event, but like many others, I am worried about the fact that very little has been announced. I'm not too bothered about the guests, but I would like the stunt guys and scholars etc to attend as I think they are the best bits. How about someone to talk about the costumes?? Anyways, I hope that there will be an announcement soon. I pop in a couple of times a day to check, but nothing as yet!!
  11. Beads beads everywhere!! I have made a start, and I'm quite pleased with the way that the beading and embroidery looks. Still so far to go though.....
  12. Well, I haven't even started yet! I have been putting it off because of the lack of announcements but I will be making a start asap! I bought a tonne of fabic this week (and spent a tonne too!), and beads, and thread etc etc. I only plan to make two dresses for another show, as that is what I have made and taken in the past, plus I just don't have the time to do more! AND I have to make the boyf's costume as he can't sew! Both the dresses I have planned are of my own design, although heavily inspired by the film costumes. One will be based on Eowyns Green Gown, and the other on a dress that isn't seen in the film, but is on alleycatscratch. I wanted plain midnight blue velvet for it, but unless I am willing to pay a small fortume, it will have to be crushed velvet! I have loads of beading and embroidery to get through, but I should have two reasonable dresses by another show. A good thing about it being winter time when the con happens, its that it will be easier to wear a velvet dress! TFF in 2005 was hard work wearing my version of Eowyn's green gown...it was August!!! Anyone know where I can get some heavily beaded/ebroidered trim from? Any suggestions greatly appreciated!
  13. I hve just one thing to say... Alan Rickman BABY!!!!
  14. For me it would be Alan Rickman, no question. I think he is a God!!
  15. What nights can you get the discount for? We had already booked a room from Thursday to Monday, and the price being quoted here isn't that much less for ther Friday Saturday and Sunday night than it is without the code (£94ish). It's the Thursday night I would like a discount for....its almost twice the price of the weekend nights!! R x
  16. Hmmmm......I have not quite decided what I am going to make yet. I was thinking about the Mourning Gown that Arwen wears in Two Towers, or there is this sketch that I have seen in the Art of the Two Towers book that I like. It reminds me of a grecian godess type dress.....we shall have to see. Alleycatsratch is a great website. I have used it for all my costumes, and for the boyf's too! He went as a Ringwraith to TFF in 2005 and as Bormir to another show last year. His costume was hard work! I do all the sewing, and he does the other technical stuff. Except when I was making the funeral gown last year, he wouldn't help me with the belt - he said he was too clumsy and would wreck it. So I had to make it myself. Anyways, I am very excited already! I need to start planning soon! Rachel
  17. I have me two silver tx for me and the boyf. I bought them as soon as they were released!! I don't really mind what guests are there, as long as there is plenty to do with plenty of like mided people!!
  18. One thing I would like to see that another event had, was LotR music videos playing in-between guests and things. I really enjoyed the ones shown at TFF the second year (we all remember the "Taking the Hobbits to Isengard" one!!), and I think they were great for filling in the gaps between talks etc.
  19. Thanx! The pictures were taken about 8 miles from my home, on top of a mountain. I was going for a Rohanish look. I have not been making costumes for very long. I made two gowns for TFF in London in 2005, and they were my first. Not amazing but I was pleased with them. The one in the pictures took me ages to make and was only the third one I had made. And it was a definate improvement on the ones from the previous year. I even made my own dress form to help me out. I made another one to go with it but the pictures are at home (I might post them later). I got the trim for the cloak from Heritage Trading on Ebay, I buy loads from there as they have a great selection and shipping is quick. I made everything on the dress myself, even the belt, which was made out of sculpey clay and wire. I have been quite lucky with fabrics as I can get a good selection quite cheaply from a local market. I must have used about 20 meters of fabric on the funeral gown and cloak (two dress layers, with the top layer having a lining), and it only cost me about £15. All this talk about costumes is making me very excited! I can't wait to start making the next one! I am itching to go and put one on just so I can waltz around with it on. I always feel disapointed after a con as I have to go back to wearing "normal" clothes!
  20. Me too! I love seeing the costumes, and to be honest, stealing some ideas for my next one! At TFF there were some great costumes, but nothing like another show in Germany, where almost everybody dresses up. I was amazed at the quality and variety of costumes when I went last year. I am hoping to be able to do some research soon and be able to pick what dress I am going to make (I am a sucker for the gowns!) and start designing etc. I have my laptop back now so my unlimited interness access is back so I may start later tonight (I'm in work right now, overtime for cash for another show!!) I am not sure if I will compete if there is a costume competition, and I will probably not sing!! But I can't wait to see all the other costumes! If anyone would like to see my costume from another show last year, see here ----> http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v690/Lad...ia/IMG_4383.jpg or here ----->> http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v690/Lad...owyn%20Funeral/
  21. Rachel you always look so beautiful in anything you wear!!! I loved the one you wore for the competition in Germany last year and I do hope you sing again I'd be in a right dilema if I had to chose one of your gorgeous dresses, you put so much time and effort into your clothing. I can't wait to see if Rosie will dress up this year - personally I still think we should all go as orcs then we don't have to worry about hair, makeup or even washing......on second thought.......! Lisa x x Thanks Lisa. I am a total geek when it comes to the costume thing. I am not sure if I am going to sing again though....I wouldn't want to put people through it again!! Rachel xx
  22. I've bought me two silver tickets!! I am counting down the days....
