  1. If people are polite and stuff, it's one of the best things about cosplaying! I remember the first time someone asked for a picture of my cosplay - it just felt amazing to be recognised and appreciated and stuff. However, I've had a few people get too close for comfort, and I've had to move away mid-photo because I don't even know where they're trying to put their hands, but apart from that, unless people get touchy-feely or take pictures in situations where they haven't asked (like half-way through a double cheeseburger or trying to fix a wig that's fallen off) it's really great !
  2. Thank you! They've still got a bit more paint to be put on them, but they're getting there :-)
  3. I've actually made some progress with my cosplay, which is surprising! I'm about 3-quarters of the way there with my blades, but here's a progress picture: I'm quite proud of them, since they're the first cosplay props I've ever made. I've got almost all of my cosplay ready, just need to grab a shirt and style my wig a little, but apart from that I'm nearly there. I'm surprised; usually I'd be working on my cosplay on the morning of the con, haha. Fingers crossed my blades won't break any weapon regulations; they're foam board so they can't do any damage but...let's hope!
  4. I've actually had time to do some of my cosplay, which was surprising! The first time I cut out my blades, the blade on the knife I was using was ridiculously blunt, so the edges were really ragged. However, I found a spare blade that was brand new and now I have the first piece of my blades and I'm pretty proud of them for a first time prop maker! My next step is sanding the edges and cutting out the foam details, but I've got until August, so I'll just take my time :-)
  5. I've been getting my cosplay together for another convention in September, but I think I'll be giving it a test run at Collectormania Glasgow. I'll be cosplaying Hanji Zoe from Attack on Titan: So far I've got the belts, cape (not in the picture), jeans, shirt and jacket (but I'll have to change it for another size). And I'll be making my own blades, something like these: This is my first time I've made props for my cosplay, so I have no idea what I'm doing, but I've got a few months to experiment with!
  6. I've nearly finished my Grantaire cosplay from Les Miserables! I've finally got my wig the way I want it to be, I've finished my waistcoat (thank God - that thing was driving me insane), I've darkened my boots, sewn my sash and flag, fixed my trousers a little, since they're a bit long, and I'm currently typing this while waiting for the pole for my flag to dry since I covered it in varnish. All I need to do now is buy a shirt and fix the cuffs to make the sleeves puffy, buy a necktie/cravat and buy some makeup so I look less like a female and more like an 19th century male revolutionary. My glasses and braces will probably ruin the look a bit, but I'm sure it'll be fine! :-) *EDIT - I just realised I need to dye my waistcoat, but apart from that it's done.
  7. My wig for my costume arrived today! I was really excited and surprised, since I chose the shipping option that would take 6-8 weeks, and I only ordered it a week ago and it's arrived! It's perfect - really thick and realistic looking and I just love it so much. I'll need to tame and style it a bit but my Grantaire cosplay is coming along nicely. And the wig is perfect for a Sherlock cosplay too, if I change my mind! I ended up ordering it from Arda, but the quality of it is amazing for the price I paid - it was just under £20 but it's really heat resistant and everything. Woo hoo!
  8. http://www.thedarkan...y/C10&showall=1 I seriously love this place, I've bought one of the men's shirts (they don't do girl's ones), and I think I'll wear either a belt or corset over it so that it's more fitted. Mine was £26, so probably about the same price I guess. I'm going to make the waistcoat, sash, and cravat but I don't think my sewing skills are up to making the shirt as well! Well, luckily, a few days ago I found another Grantaire cosplayer on Tumblr and I really liked their costume. They told me that their shirt was actually just an over-sized dress shirt from M&S or something. Hopefully, I'll save a bit of money and had some more to spend on my wig ect.!
  9. I was thinking about maybe posting it to Glasgow beforehand. How much d'ya reckon that'd cost me?! I was really disappointed that they missed out their bit of Drink With Me, but I am LOVING that Grantaire is staring right into Enjolras' eyes (albeit with a very scared look on his face) whilst holding that bottle there in that picture!! Everyone else is just looking at him like wtf? I have a lot of love for this pairing, so tbh I think I would have been disappointed no matter who they cast. It's very rare that I see a Grantaire that I feel is good enough. He needs to be way more devoted to Enj, and MORE DRUNK. I know what you mean. Just wondering, what are you doing for Enjorlas' shirt? I really don't want to buy one, since the cheapest 1800s-style shirt I've seen is $40 with p&p. I might make it, but I'm not sure... Depending on the size and weight of the flag, I don't know how much it'll cost. It just depends on whether it'll be cheaper to post it, or pay or extra hand luggage ect.
  10. I'll have a look at it - thanks! Ah, perfect! We'll almost be a pair! Grantaire is one of my favourite characters (along with Jehan) but I have to say I was seriously upset about the lack of chemistry between Grantaire and Enjolras in the film - Enj does have friends other than Marius!! Also he wasn't drunk enough! More drunk, more stains. Still haven't worked out how to get a flagpole onto the plane. Think it counts as hand luggage? Edit: omg I just noticed that bottle. lol. Maybe you could get the flag pole into a few pieces and fit it in your suitcase or something? And, I know what you mean - I really wanted to see a lot more interaction between Enjolras and Grantaire but, oh well. Is that bottle suggestive? ;-)
  11. I'm planning on doing a Grantaire cosplay from the Les Miserables film - the one of the far right with the green waistcoat. I'm wondering - I'm hoping to get my wig from Arda Wigs as I've heard they're very good, but has anyone else every bought from them? Arda's ran by cosplayers so they know what they're talking about, but it's based in America so I'm not sure about shipping ect. Anyway, I'm looking forward to making this!
  12. Is Glasgow Expo the one this show are running, and it's the week after Collectormania? If it is, I might try to get to that one, too!
  13. Or maybe Christopher Paolini or John Green because of reasons.
  14. Anyone from Avengers. Or Sherlock. Doctor Who would be good. Maybe Merlin. Or Vikings. Or Les Miserables....
  15. I've kind of changed my ideas for my cosplay - the Ezio one would be far too complex for my first proper cosplay, so I'll try a simpler one. I'm thining maybe Marius from Les MIserables... @Inga your Enjolras would have a companion!
  16. I'm trying to do an Ezio cosplay from Assassin's Creed : Brotherhood. It's the first cosplay I've made from scratch so it won't be perfect, but it's going to be fun!
  17. Be warned - I may run up to you, hug you and start singing "Do You Hear the People Sing" at the top of my voice.
