  1. I put no because expensive, stage areas for talks could have been a lot bigger - as they were so small we got to see nothing at all. They have no excuse - the Excell is huge and at every event i have ever been there both halls are used. Just a money making exercise using our love of Star Trek in a cruel way. All they had to do was include a talk in the ticket price, guaranteeing a seat at one talk at least, making sure enough seats to cover that - see my other reviews. This could have been so much better. I will remember the energiser bit with fun, the tiny collection (not really a museum) and the Klingon bar seat for £30 - very bad value for money. Sadly i have always wanted to go to a Star Trek convention for the 40 years I have been a fan, this has put me off and as my first and only experience is likely to be my last.
  2. Hi, interesting review, thank you. Glad I didn’t go Friday, was busier than Sunday. I was wondering what other conventions were like as this was our first Star Trek Convention and I expected them to use both huge Excel halls as is usual when I go to events at the Excel. Shocked when looked at plan online to find they hadn’t. thought can't be right, they’d use the other hall to allow for thousands of fans expected. But no - so tiny place and no people. All I could think was where are all the people? Most people I saw have seen it as a moneymaking thing and thats what I did. Maybe those who couldn’t get tickets in the tiny stages, gave up and went home. Sadly, I have always wanted to got o a star trek convention for the 40 plus years I have been a fan. This was my first and will be my last. Seems I was right, other conventions haven’t been like this, one price for photo and autographs – easier, and collect and pay by autographs themselves, lot less queueing. Yes just as I thought organisers planned to rip us off rather than plan to let us experience the Star Trek convention, probably spent more on advertising than the actual event!!! Would be very interested in hearing about other conventions and their cost.
  3. Thankyou for your indepth report which i found it very interesting. Even if i had the money i know its not worth it. with better organisation and use of both halls as has been the case with every event i have been to at the Excel up til now, there would be little use for queues - I've only ever queued for food at the Excel in the past, usually loadsa seats or displays for everyone if they want them. The organisers just needed to use both halls and have open huge seating area, same as Stage C except big enough for at least half the guests. Better organised = more fun so happier people and the ambience would be better. I reckon anyone who couldnt get seats left early as most of Sunday afternoon the hall seemed very empty. for thousands of people seemed nowhere near that many. I wonder how many gave up and went home. So the organisers shot themselves in the foot, if there were enough seats so people see a show and feel happy, they'll stay and pay for extra talks photos and autographs. we spent £90 between us to get in and my daughter and her boyfriend intended to pay hundreds on the paid talks photos autographs, but took us so long, hard to find second ticket booth, to find so called free talk tickets were all gone so they couldnt be bothered to spend anything, just saw what was part of the £30. Never known anything this bad value- get far more for your money at anything else I've ever been to - such as the Grand Prix for instance - far better value. This was my first ever Star trek convention after being a fan (and bringing my daughter up with all thats trekky) for over 40 years --- sadly this will be my last. not a fun affair, just a money making exercise.
  4. I was very excited at meeting a Captain and sad they seemed behind hidden doors unless you had lotsa dosh to get near them, however, i heard lovely things from guys i got chatting to in a queue, about how lovely Scott Bakula had been to them so was suprised at how fast we got shuffled through Avery Brooks photos - got to smile and say how pleased i was to meet him, but he didnt say much, smiles back, he seemed very nice but tired. A convention like this not the best for chats, mechanical paying for photos and autographs, and tiring for the actors i am sure - but they are well paid. when i met Tim Russ (voyager) at a book signing we got to chat and he was genuinely lovely. when i met Rolf Harris walking his dog, wonderful chat then, so yes, maybe meeting people outside this event is more fun, for them and us, but i certainly didnt ask for a photo or autograph, just petted his dog and had a lovely chat.
