1. Maybe I have too great an imagination, but I would love to see the following: A bigger museum with several sets on display so you can spend a bit more time looking at them. I know the bridge set had a window, but I felt a bit awkard taking pictures when people were on it. I think if you could walk around and actually see the sets, kind of like the Harry Potter studio tour (am I allowed to say that?...Other studio tours are available! lol) but obviously on a smaller scale then it would be amazing. A proper Klingon zone and Federation zone, maybe even with big screens on the wall making it look as if you're looking out a window on Qo'noS (Kronos) or the Enterprise (orbiting a planet with other ships from the series fly past or in a space station or something). A bigger area for each zone decorated properly and more enclosed so it reallly feels like you're on a ship or something (depending on the theme of the area). Mainly nice big zones with lots of seating where you can really get immersed in the Star Trek world! A solution to the Stage B free talk might be have so many tickets available in advance to actually go into the talk and then stream a live feed of the talk onto a big screen outside of the stage for people who couldn't get tickets? A proper auditorium for the main talks so you don't get the sound from the rest of the convention would be good. A chillout zone showing top episodes (maybe voted for in advanced on the website) with lots of comfy seating. Again for the rest I agree on what has already been said. The guests this time were amazing, you got the autograph system spot on. The photo's have been mentioned before, all i really think is needed is an electronic board displaying the ticket numbers. I'd love to see this happen again on a much much grander scale, I'm not talking about guest I'm just talking about imagination and space. Don't get me wrong, I'm not complaining, I had a brilliant time and loved every minute, even though my back didn't!
2. It's on youtube, I found it this morning. hope it's ok to put that link on here?
3. The good far outweighed the bad. As I sit here now I can only think of 4 things that could be improved on (I won't list them as they've been said before), but I can think of so many great things that happened that it makes those 4 things seems very minor. My first ever Star Trek convention. I met some wonderful fans and saw some amazing costumes. I chatted and laughed with the guests, people who I watch on TV everyday and never dreamed I'd meet. AMAZING! If someone had told me this time last year that I'd be meeting all of these amazing actors that I watch in Star Trek everyday I'd have called them nuts. I can honestly say that this was the most amazing weekend of my life. William Shatner's story about the bike was hilarious, as was Patrick Stewart's entire talk on the Saturday. Scott Bakula was a pleaure to meet, even though he flirted with my wife (on 2 seperate occasions) and I found out that she has a huge crush on him. There was a really nice guy on one of the merchandise stands who had come over from America and he hadn't brought over what we were looking for so told us to email him and he'd arrange to send it to us. I think he was kicking himself for not bringing more over. The museum was really interesting. I loved the way the autograph stands were done so I could see all of the guest even if I couldn't afford to meet them. Bring on the next one! As you say Jason those who are unhappy shout the loudest but if you look at the poll that someone started I believe that more people liked it than didn't! I think we definitely need another one!
4. I'm feeling the same! At the time my back was killing and, although I'd like to think my feeback on here was positive with constructive critisim, on reflection despite everything I had a brilliant time. I'm actually gutted it's over. I really do hope there is another one either next year or the year after. This event was brilliant and so much fun. It was amazing to meet so many of the actors and to go to the talks. I wish it had been longer so that I'd had time to have photos with everyone, get autographs from everyone and go to all of the talks. Mind you, my bank account would have to be about twice the size!
5. It was a fantastic event! We had a brilliant time, gutted that we had to miss Sunday! Please say there will be another one soon?
6. I don't know the official answer but I do remember seeing posts on here before the convention that said you pay per person in the photo not per photo so 1 person in the photo £40 2 people in the photo £80 and 2 tickets required. That's why my wife and I always went solo. Again I don't know the official answer so I could be wrong, but I definitely read this on more than one post.
7. In the interest of trying to give constructive critisism I've had the following thoughts (not sure if the organisers will see this but you never know): Having read through several posts on here most complaints are about free talk tickets. I think it would have been better to do an online lottery style distribution of half or even three quarters of these tickets or even an online first come first served, then the rest could have been first come first served on the day. All of the talk and photos would have benefitted with a better queuing system. This could have easily been resolved with an electronic board at the entrance to each talk or photoshoot displaying the numbers of the tickets that are being let in or saying if there is any delay to the schedules start time. The captains talks could have been done on a numbered basis too. That way instead of standing in long queues people could judge when to arrive or sit back and wait for their number. I do think that some of the fans have to take a bit of the blame though. When we went to our Kate Mulgrew shoot people with ticket numbers that were over 600 were crowding round before they'd even started letting people in for it and we had to fight our way through. Some common sense is needed! I want to stress that we had a great time and thoroughly enjoyed our weekend, even though we both ended both days in absolute agony, I could barely walk. However it was totally worth it due to the amazing people we got to meet. I really do hope this becomes a more regular thing as once every 10 years really isn't enough!
8. Lots of people are voicing opinions on this event, some of which I agree with, others I don't. My wife and I have never been to an event like this before and as it's our 10 year anniversary and we're Trekkies we decided to come thinking that for us it'd be a once in a lifetime opportunity. Overall we had a really great time and have thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. I do have some criticisms though. Firstly I think the organisers seriously underestimated the amount of space that would be needed. Most areas of the event were seriously over crowded, the merchandise stands, museum, Klingon and federation zones and the waiting area for photos were far too small. Also there was a distinct lack of seating inside the convention. I injured my back last year and although I haven't had any problems with it for months, this weekend I've been in agony. Also my wife is pregnant and we spent too much time sat outside of the event missing the atmosphere. Secondly the organisation of talks of the main stage was quite poor. Queuing for 45 minutes with the doors only seeming to open after the talks had started wasn't ideal. To be completely fair I don't know when they started letting people in because I was a good quarter of a mile away from the doors each time! Thirdly, it was all a cheap. Considering how much money must have been made from this event it doesn't seem like very much of it went on actually putting it on. There was nothing to make it stand out as a Star Trek event. The queue system for the photos was bad, I think there should have been electronic boards displaying the numbers rather than having to rely on someone trying to shout over the noise. No-one could hear the people on photos A so everyone was pushing to the front to find out if they could go in. Lastly for the negative thoughts, the party. We didn't go to the Klingon Monster Ball but from what I've read it sounds like it was as bad as the TNG party. No effort at all went into the TNG party. The room wasn't decorated (unless you count mirror balls and a few static blue lights lighting up the removable walls). The stage was tiny with a very poor sound system. The only seating was some cheap old garden furniture, but only around 20 or 30 tables. I'm sure the acts were very good but we couldn't see or hear any of them. The party was definitely the most dissappointing part of the weekend for us. All of that aside we had a really great time. Meeting the guest was amazing. We had so much fun getting autographs and chatting to the guests. The way the autographs were done was brilliant. It was great to have the actors sat next to the other actors from the series that they were in, the boys from Enterprise were so funny and having such a laugh together. The guests we had photos with we're lovely and the crew were very helpful. We went to the information desk on Friday to double check the length of Michael Dorn's Saturday photoshoot as it clashed with the William Shatner talk and they said "you can go to Michael shoot today if you want" and changes our ticket for us. We also had a slight clash with Brent and Scott due to an over running shoot. When we mentioned it to the guy at the Brent shoot he advised that we'd be better off getting Scott's done first and coming back, how right he was! Actually he was brilliant all weekend, I wish I'd got his name as he deserves some credit. He was with Eddie Paskey at the autographs all day Saturday. As I said overall we had a great time! All of the other fans (apart from the two behind us in the queue for a Shatner autograph) were lovely and it was great to see so many amazing costumes and such a variety of people. I hope this happens in London again soon, but with a little better organisation. I also want to say thank you to the fans and moderators on here who have been very helpful.
9. We've left the party too, it was very disappointing. Looks like they've just pocketed the money and made no effort at all.
10. So glad this has a happy ending, my wife is even crying (she's pregnant and hormonal!). If you're both going to the party tonight then you should definitely meet up!
11. Excellent! Thanks for such a swift and helpful reply
12. Sorry if this has already been asked, but I've read through several topics and haven't been able to find an answer. I was just wondering if anyone knows roughly how long the Saturday William Shatner talk will be? I also have the same question for the Michael Dorn Saturday photoshoot. As you can probably guess I have a bit of a clash! At the moment I'm thinking that I will have to either not have the Michael Dorn photo or come out of the Shatner talk to get it done. However if the photoshoot goes on after the talk has finished then I might be able to run over after the talk and not miss any of the talk I most wanted to go to! Does anyone know if it is possible to change the day of your photoshoot? If I'd been able to see the timetable before I booked then I'd have had the Michael Dorn photoshoot on the Friday . It's probably unlikely, but thought I'd ask anyway.
