  1. Everyone hat was going could still go and just spend the weekend nights partying in Birmingham in their costumes. I'm sure everyone would fit in nicely in the Birmingham nightclubs and pubs in your costumes lol
  2. That's such a shame. Thanks for trying guys. This was going to be my first ME con. Looks like it will be a while before I try one unless they come up with something new. I've no interest in Whedon, Orks, TB or Twilight. IMO trying to do a con based on a film is always going to be difficult regardless of the fanbase, especially one based on a single film and a book mainly read by kids. I'm sure more aduts are reading the books because of the hype around the film and of course after seeing it, but despite that it is mainly a children/teenagers series of books. When it comes to cons linked to films you really need ones that are an established franchise with more than one film already released, such as Star Wars, Bond, etc. Even if you can't get the big names, having a series allows you bigger scope for getting guests. I was happy with the guests you had lined up for this con, but I think it has to be accepted that neither had big parts in the film and lots of screen time. If say this had been one for Pirates of the Caribbean, even if you dont get the main three or four, you could go down a level to Kevin McNally, McKenzie Crook or Lee Arenberg and they would be big enough names and characters in the films to at least be instantly recognisable and a bit of a draw. This con was always going to be a punt, it's a shame it never came off. Maybe the next one will. :)
  3. Reading all this makes me tempted to go to the event just to see all the various costumes lol
  4. I would love to meet Richard O' Sullivan, but I think he would be very unlikely to do it. The last I heard he lived in an residentail home for actors and is in very bad health never fully recovering after a stroke. This is from 2009 and is an article about his Man about the house co-star Sally Thomsett http://www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-...-The-House.html There is a picture of him on there from three years ago and he looks so old and frail then. As much as I would love to see him do a signing or something I think in reality it's highly unlikely sadly.
  5. I had a similar issue with something on my game only it wasn't them mockingjay. I'd placed something to close to a tree and everytime I tried to finish it I kept cutting the tree instead. My only issue at the mo is I keep trying to ask for fire and it never lets me. The post to wall thing never comes up Obtaining fire has me totaly stumped. I have no idea where you get that from other than asking friends.
  6. Thanks for that David. :) Personally I like it when they change Directors when there are sequels or in a series of films. You lose the continuity but you do usually get films that do look and feel different. A good example of this is how dark the third Harry Potter film, The Prizoner of Azkaban is compared tonot just the first two but the ones that follow. IMO the four films after that needed to be as dark if not darker. With the last few all having the same Director they all looked and felt the same. As good as the two parts of the final book were, I didn't think they had an epic feel about them at all. I don't think David Yates was the right Director for that kind of film and it showed. For one of the sequels I would like to see someone like Joe Wright who directed "Hanna" take over.
  7. The Hunger Games director, Gary Ross, has pulled out of directing the film franchise's sequel, according to reports. The film-maker was praised for his directorial skills on the critically acclaimed and commercially successful first film, which became the third-highest opening box office debut in history. But, according to The Playlist, Ross would prefer to focus on his new, self-penned film project than return to direct the second film in the series, Catching Fire. The film, which is due out in November 2013, is rumoured to have a draft screenplay written by Slumdog Millionaire script writer Simon Beaufoy. I wonder who they will get to replace him and how it will affect the sequel?
  8. I have to admot I was wondering the same. Just an idea for future events, perhaps an update as to sales could be given out to allay any fears that things are quiet and the event may be at risk of cancellation. There must be a figures where it's considered 1) Tickets not sold enoough so the event needs to be cancelled. 2) Ticket sales low and are likely to make a loss, but it's not so much you'll take the hit just to make sure the con runs and people aren't disappointed 3) Break even 4) Sales enough to make a profit of some size. If when the sales hit the second level where it's enough to run the event and take the small loss it would be helpful if it could be announced level 2 has been reached. It would put people's minds at rest that have purchased a ticket but it could also encourage people that aren't sure and are thinking it may not go ahead so "I'll wait until nearer the time" to go ahead with confidence that the event is definately still running. By using levels, or colour coding no actual numbers or figures are announced, so it could be the required number of sold tickets for that event is 50 tickets or it could be 150. Just a thought of how it could be done to reassure people that the event is running even if there is no other up-to-date news regarding guests etc for weeks or months.
  9. I managed to do it easily. At the risk of sounding the patronising how have you tried to do it? I moved it to another part of the woods. then when I clicked on it then I clicked play song and it played fine. I don't know if you need to move the tree/bird of not. I just did it as it was close to something else that flagged up and made it tricky.
  10. I didnt know there was a game. I'll have to have a look
  11. I'm not really that big an autograph collector, so signing fairs/events don't really appeal to me. I prefer going to conventions. As much as I would like to meet them, if it would be just for a about a minute and then it's all over, next in the line please. I don't think any would be enough of a draw to make me travel miles just to do that. If you are looking at something like the Mike Tyson event. Then it is a different prospect all together. The opportunity of Christopher Lee for that day one maybe two Q&A sessions, an meet and get an autograph and possibly a photo opportunity I would be prepared to pay more. Say about £100 for the day inc autograph with the choice of a photo with him for a seperate fee.
  12. Nope I'm going on my own too. So it won't just be you on your own. As you didn't say how old you are it's hard to know, but I'm 47 so are you older or younger than that?
  13. No idea who she is either. I too hope shes not another wants to hump the Doctor companion. From when I first saw the show Series 7 (Pertwee's first) to the end of the Sylv series the show as must see. I videoed it once I have a VCR and scheduled my going out around the show. After about hlaf way through Tennant's first season it became Sky+ it and watch it when I get time. All the soppy fancying each other made me lose interest. I didn't and still don't like the 45 minutes episode stories, turning it into a UK version of Buffy/Angel really did it in for me. I didn't like Donna at all. Then we got Amy (how many times can I or my boyfriend/hubby die and I cry) Pond. I think it shows how little the show means to me now that I am struggling to even remember what Amy's botfriend/hubby is called) I also don't like that Moffat is trying to be too clever for his own good. Bad Wolf worked well. I was there but it wasn't thrown down your throat, unlike that crack, The Silence and The Doctor is dead. Did we need to be told that every bloody episode? Hopefully after the 50th anniversary year Moffat will move on.
  14. I finally got to see it today. On the screen the Premiere was on last week. I really enjoyed the film and thought it was really faithful to the book. I think the addition of the riot worked well. Another addition I liked hat wasn't in the book was seeing Haymitch in one brief scene trying to get stuff for Katniss, unlike the book where you were never sure what he was doing whilst Katniss was doing other when a parachute arrived. If I were to pick one area that I felt didn't work as well as it could be it was Rue's death. She didn't have enough screen time for the audience to connect with the character. Equally the screen time where Rue and Katniss were together wasn't significant enough to make it obvious as to why Katniss was so devastated when Rue was killed. In the book you get to know Katniss' thoughts, how she sees her like Primm. The fact she (Katniss) never sings so when she did for Rue it meant so much.
  15. Do you live a very long way from Birmingham? two and a bit hours on the train. i could come on the saturday i suppose... I have to travel as well and I'll be working on Monday but I usually leave on Sunday afternoon I live in London and need to be back on Monday. When I booked my room I asked the woman at the hotel about checking out on Sunday. She said that you can have your bag(s) in the concierge room after you check out at 10am or whatever time it was. I'll be getting the either the 7:20pm or 7:40pm train and should be back in London between 10-11pm (sorry not looking up times as I write this) so if the closing ceremony is all finished by 7pm you should be able to get back to london by 10pm. If not you may have to see all the talks on Sunday and just miss the closing ceremony. It would be a shame, but at least you would have seen 99% of the Convention. Just make sure you take a few text books or a book of notes to read on the train up and back so you do at least do some revision. :)
  16. Why is there only an 0.1% chance of you getting to this Con? So come on Jemma, what's the latest on your hunt for material for your costume. This is something of a story unto itself. :) Did you email the person I found for you?
  17. Yay!! I'm glad you both got there ok and even better both got tickets to see the film. I was waiting on standby about a mile away in case Tahlie (probably spelt wrong sorry) called my mobile and said she needed help giving out flyers for The Games. I watched the Premiere on Yahoo. That entrance really looks horrible on TV. It looks like an industrial estate especially with those two big turbine things. If they are doing more premieres there they really need to make it look more attractive. I would have looked out for you all but didn't know what any of you look like. I probably still won't even after the Con in June. What time did you get your wristbands? I've read elsewhere that they were being issued at 9am and not at noon like they were supposed to be. Also people were unhappy with the staffing/security there.
  18. According to someone posting on the premiere's FB page there is room for about 1000 people and already by 8.30am there are about 300 people there. As most of them would have good access to getting a Metro the chances of getting a ticket have dropped further!
  19. I've just got back from my local station with 15 copies of the Metro. There is no voucher as such, just a whole page advert about the Premiere on page 31. At the top it says see the stars arrive from 5pm. At the bottom it says the following. Bring this Metro Ad to get VIP Pen access and the chance to attend the premiere >>This says to me that with that ad you may get into the VIP area but still not get a wristband to see the film.<< Wristbands will be distributed on the day at the O2 Greenwich. Wristbands will be issued on a first come basis to the first 250 people who present this advert from 12 noon (so NOT 2pm as previously mentioned). Wristbands will entitle the wearers access to the VIP pen and to a seat to watch the film at the premiere. Only one wristband and seat per person. Wristbands are non transferable and you must be present to recieve your individual wristbands. Note Winners will be positioned in the pen from 1pm to watch the stars walk the red carpet. Wristbands must be worn at all times until the event is over and must not be tampered with. For the people that can't go the premiere is being shown live on yahoo at www.yahoo.co.uk/movies Unless you are going to be at the O2 by about 11am and then have luck on your side the chances of you getting a wristband are very slim I would imagine. Sod standing or sitting about in the pen from about 1pm. I can be hanging about from 11am with the copies to give you girls and guys (if there are some in your group) if you want to have a crack at trying to get one. However in reality unless you are leaving really early from Blackpool I don't think you stand much chance of geting one sorry! I'll check back at 9am, 10am and 10.30 to see if you've replied and if you want me to head down there to give you a copy of the paper.
  20. Taking into account the popularity of the whole Resident Evil franchise both as games and films, (there's probably comics or graphic novels too) perhaps consideration into running an Resident Evil Concention would be woth doing. Even if you can't get Milla, there are enough other cast members to look at for potential guests.
  21. This is what I was saying about the stupidity and randomness of the cost of travelling on the trains and why I'm sure so many people look at the prices and think sod that! The prices can even change by the hour. On Sunday I wanted to book a train from London Bridge to Brighton for this Friday. For a few days last week the price had been 4 adult return tickets for £31, based on buy one, get one free as long as there are four in the group, so really £31 for two adult tickets. I go to get the tickets on Sunday and the price has dropped for no apparent reason to 4 tickets for £20. Fantastic! I sent a text to one person just to confirm they could make London Bridge for that specific time. After about two hours I got a reply so went to get the tickets and they had gone up again from £20 to £27. No idea why, they just had. I tried different operators and the price varied. in fact my prefered choice of East Coast for some reason had gone up from £20 to £54, so I thught knickers to that I'll go to another opeator and get them for £27. Then and I have no idea why, I thought I would try something. I went into my history, found the National Rail pages and clicked on one of those. Up came the trip I wanted for the price of £20. I thought go with it and changed it to my prefered choice of East Coast and hit the buy button expecting it to take me to the East Coast website and it to have changed to £54. It didn't. It stayed at £20. So I logged in and paid for the tickets. Yesterday I picked them up from the machine and I was charged as it also said on my online bank statement £20 for the four tickets. If I hadn't for some reason thought of trying to use the historyI would have had to pay more for my ticket. So it may be worth doing that if you look at the price of a train and it's gone up since you last looked. I just looked at the same journey. To get the train we are getting it's now back up to £31 from the £27 it was on Sunday. Maybe the website prices drop if you buy on a Saturday or Sunday morning. I really don't know. What a crazy way to run a business!
  22. I only saw the request for help this morning so it's probably too late, but have volunteered my services if they can get the flyers to me. :) I've also just posted on the IMDB forums for the film about The Games so hopefully that will get some interest too. Edit. Slow reaction so far on the IMDB forum. One was interested but is in the states so is doubtful. The latest one was "OMG where is it gonna be? I'll definitely be there." Hopefully he/she will keep to that and we have at least one more ticket sold.
  23. Thanks David, How long do you think I should wait before I get concerened that there is a problem? I would hate to miss out and preferably not want a higher number for autos and photos owing to there being a problem. Because they just show you the last 4 digits of your card number you start to question if you messed up one of the numbers.
  24. Hi, On Friday I purchased (I hope) a silver programme for The Games. I have recieved an confirmation email with my order and customer number, but no payment has been taken from my card, and it is showing that my available funds include what should have been my payment, so it's not frozen like sometimes happens with some payments for hotels or pre-orders etc. On the confirmation email it says about checking to see if payment has been taken from the bank account. Should my payment have been taken immediately or is it taken when tickets are sent out?
