The word cosplay comes from mixing 'costume' and 'play'. It basically means the hobby of making and wearing costumes of your favourite characters from films, anime, books or video games. Cosplay is all about bringing characters to life, so many cosplayers also try their best to look or act like the character.

Bigger and Better than Ever!

The Cosplay Zone is back bigger and better than ever! Not only do we have the masquerade on each day with a massive £100 prize to each winner, but we also have a series of cosplay talks and presentations on stage and displays! If that was not enough there's the Talent Show, themed cosplay days, a photography area, a chillout area for meets, cosplay displays, and much more!

Themed Cosplay Days

Returning to EMS will be a Harry Potter themed day on the Saturday and a Doctor Who themed day on the Sunday! Set dressing and props shall be combined to create themed sets for cosplayers to have their photos taken with them over the weekend! Come stand in and have your photos taken as if you were in the Harry Potter films or have your photos taken next to the TARDIS!

Cosplay Photography

We shall be arranging a photoshoot area for you to get cosplay photographs of yourselves taken.

Perhaps you want to stop by to have a photoshoot taken of your cosplay group? If you are looking to arrange a cosplay group, please use the cosplay forum here to do so. Just make a topic which the group idea you have in mind, or reply to other existing topics.

Cosplay Masquerade (Saturday & Sunday 3pm)

The Masquerade is taking place on Saturday and Sunday at 3.00pm on the second stage. There is a £100 first prize to the winner of this highly anticipated event! This is the event where you can show off your costume to the public and compete to win some great prizes! All types of costume are welcome, including anime and manga, film and TV, video games, comic book characters, original costumes and others. More details on how to register can be found via the forum topic here Make sure to register in advance since places are limited!

The Talent Show (Saturday 5pm)

You can sing, dance, do a skit, do stand-up, magic tricks or any other talent you may have (within reason, it's a family show and only a small stage ).

The judges will be equipped with large crosses and, in the style of Britain's Got Talent, will hold up their cross signs if they don't like your act. Three crosses and you're out! The judges will give their comment on each act and at the end, they will announce the winner! Acts should last no longer than three minutes and if you want to use any music, please send it in advance!

How To Signup for the Masquerade & Talent Show

You can register via the forum topic HERE until 3 days prior to the show and on the day of the event, between 10am and 2pm at the Cosplay Desk. Entries will NOT be accepted without reference picture (with the exception of Original creations). Places are limited and will be allocated on a first come first serve basis so please book or arrive early to avoid disappointment!

Cosplay Talks

Cosplay Guests Laura Dagless, Anais Roberts, Matthew Halsey and Nicholas Sisouphone shall be hosting a range of cosplay talks and workshops throughout Saturday and Sunday!

Prop-Making Guide - Need a prop for your costume and don't know where to start? This is a great guide for anyone starting out making props, and even a good time for people who have experience and want to learn what other materials are out there. Includes a Q&A at the end so if you have a prop you're thinking of making you can get some specific advice.

Wig-Styling 101 - Need help learning how to style a wig for your cosplay? This panel will cover the dos and donts of what to do.

Zombie Makeover Demo - Come along and watch as ZombieMama (Anais Roberts) gives a talk and demonstration on how to perform a zombie makeover.

And MORE.. Check out the 2nd stage timetable to read up on the other talks.

Cosplay Chillout & Groups

Come take a seat, chill-out and get to know fellow cosplayers. As always, we will have supplies in case you have to make any last-minute alterations or repairs to your costume. Expect to also see numerous prop displays as well.

This is also a great place for your cosplay group to meet up. If you are looking to arrange a cosplay group, please use our cosplay forum here to do so. Just make a topic which the group idea you have in mind, or reply to other existing topics.

When/where will the zombie demo be and will audience members be given the chance to be zombiefied??

Zombie demo will be with the Face & Body Painting Guide at 11am on Saturday. It's only a demo unfortunately, so no painting on the crowd. However fun it might be to have a full horde of zombies by the end of the tutorial! xD You could always practice on each other when the day is over though. :)

Can I ask what happened to this? We tried to arrange our meet up near it, and it wasn't there. I know quite a few people that really wanted a photo next to the Tardis. I'm not sure if there was a Harry Potter set either, I don't think there was but I didn't look for that.
