Query for 'Too Tall'

Is this still going to be implemented at Hub 2?

I just thought of something that probably makes much more sense than what I suggested at the end of the email I sent, and that is that all the people with disabilities (and their partners/carers) go into the hall first, before anyone else is allowed in (before the golds/silvers etc). I am NOT suggesting that everyone with a disability sits at the front, just that they be shown to the appropriate area relevant to their ticket number (so someone with a Gold number in the 80s would be shown to the third row of the Gold seating, someone with a standard in the 40s would be shown to the second row of the standard, etc). I know we shouldn't talk about other events, but the disabled were escorted into the hall first at a previous Torchwood convention we went to, and that worked well, at least for me. And I would certainly appreciate not having to worry about queueing. So that crew know who has a disability (its not always obvious!), maybe disabled and their partners can have something on their badge to indicate that?

That is a dam good idea and I will sort that out.

THANKS! And I hope that that will apply to the Saturday night entertainment as well. It was a bit of a rugby scrum when the doors opened for that!

I can't see it being an issue to do it for the Saturday night stuff as well.

If it is being implemented, I didn't get a reply to my last query about who to contact to ensure I'm on the list of people with disabilities. Thanks

At the previous non SM convention I mentioned, when we arrived we were already 'on their list' of people with disabilities. (as I had contacted them beforehand). Is there someone I need to contact at SM to make sure we are on the relevant Hub 2 'list' of people with disabilities. I am one of those people whose disability isn't obvious. I mean I'm not in a wheelchair or anything. I just normally contact event organizers before hand to let them know just so there won't be any problems.

Thanks.

I started this at Eclipse 2. When letting people into the main hall I called disabled people and their carers first. So that is in place.

I'll admit that the Saturday stuff isn't so easy, because I'm not always about when the party starts and we don't usually have any restriction on who comes in when, we just open the doors. I usually don't get to finish until gone 7:30pm, so when the party starts at 8pm I'm usually eating.

But I'll see what we can do. I'm thinking that at the doors we have a seperate queue for disabled people so they are let in first so that they defo get seats.

As far as the list is conserned I honestly don't know. I'll need to find out. But just tell them at the reg desk when you arrive and that'll be fine. Any issues and just ask to call to me. Too Tall aka Stuart.

Thanks for the reply. My main concern is that I don't actually look like I have a disability, and don't want to be accused of queue jumping. That happened to me before at an event (not yours), even when I had notified the organizers beforehand. It was extremely upsetting at the time.

Since then I have endeavored to do my best to make sure the situation isn't repeated.

I have found that the simplest solution is to have something in writing (an email, or snail mail) from the event organizers. Like I said, at another event I simply had written confirmation that I was on the organizers list of people with disabilities. But if there isn't going to be an actual list, then just written confirmation that you have a record of my disability status should be enough. That way if I encounter any problems I can simply show whoever it is the note I have from the organizers. I have found that that has worked very well before, and that since I have been getting everything in writing I haven't had any problems with stewards or anyone else who mistakenly thought that because I wasn't in a wheelchair or with a stick, I didn't have a disability.

So can someone please send me such an email? It would put my mind at rest.

Thanks

mjocovers - Please email me at crew@showmastersonline.com and I'll sort that out for you.

DarknessHayz - If you have proof please bring it with you to the event. When you get there ask to speak to me. Stuart or Too Tall, either will get you pointed towards me. I'm usually there from 6pm on the Friday. I'll then sort it out for you.

Because in a previous life (too many years ago) I worked as a care assistant I'm very aware of disabled issues. It's just become the norm that I look after all disabled people at the shows. You wouldn't (as our crew are great), but if you do have any problems please just ask to speak to me, all the crew have my number if I'm not in sight.

As long as I know and have discussed it with you then all will be fine. I am the one that loads the hall and so will know to call you forward first. The crew (or attendees) will not question you as you've been called in by me.

Too Tall, I have some concerns regarding disability issues. I don't want to go into too much detail on the forum, but I raised these concerns via email when I booked the tickets and was told simply to speak to someone at the event itself. Obviously that's fine and makes sense, but one of the things I do struggle with from time to time is talking to people and I'm concerned that when it comes to the day itself I won't be able to communicate my needs properly.

Would it be possible to email you to discuss the concerns I have so that at least some of them could be sorted out in advance?

That's fine. Please just use the crew email address I gave above.

Too Tall

I did email you as suggested, getting a little concerned as I haven't heard anything back from you. I'm sure you can understand that this is something I need to know is sorted before I get there. If you could at least confirm you received the email I'd be very grateful, thanks.

ETA. Never mind, got your reply. Many thanks
