1. Only pointing out the flaws. 925632 Yes well we know you like to do that don't we :) 925642 No eye deer what you're talking about. I'm just a little old techno pope.
2. Im not 100% on this matter but I am almost certain that Showmasters actually made a loss at the new years meet. A 925605 As a very rich friend once told me, sometimes you have to make a loss before you start to make a profit. Also shows how they haven't thought it out fully.
3. So protect yourself from sheepdom and don't go. arrange your own and take a teddy bear *lost patience* 925542 No you just don't seem to get what I'm saying and so begin to attack me as that's the best way of going about these things. From what I have seen and heard of/off showmasters they lack professionalism and my fear is that people will spend a fair bit of money on a summer holiday with friends and not enjoy it due to lack of careful planning on the companies part. I'm worried that people look to this company for more then what it is actually here to give. At the end of the day they set out purely arranging conventions, they saw that forum meets where/are popular and so decided they would attempt to make money from it and they have, are and will continue to. And as I have already said showmasters set out to run conventions, not holiday camps. They have no knowledge or background that I have seen or heard of to say they have looked into the legality, moral and ethical aspects of running such an "event". I always take a teddy away with me. His name is Hug, he is a monkey. He come on all my holidays.
4. Like you say, what could be a great weekend. All I'm doing is pointing out that there are things that have to be sorted out so that it is a great weekend for those who wish to go. The question to be asked is why people who have been friends for years would have not plan something like this for themselves if it was what they wanted. Feels alot like suggestive selling to me.
5. A company I worked for had people saying they wanted to go on holiday together and did need us to help them plan such an event. Without even looking at each individuals background it was decided that the possible risks even the silly ones meant we just never did it. Even if people have something in common there is something safe about meeting in such a public arena as a convention that is safe and spending a week in a youth hostel make the risk assesment side of me implode. At the end of the day the company i worked for weren't holiday reps and thus not trained in doing a holiday thing. Showmasters are the same and I feel they need to seriously look at how they are going to do this. From how new year seems to have just happened, I'm thinking they have not thought things through. From going to the kleptomania 8 "party" and seeing a girl of 13 off her face on booze makes me think, like any company, they are only after there money. Actually a lot happened at that party that made me think that new years and now summer is a bloody dangerous idea that they haven't thought about. The vodka made us list around 20 things about why it was a bad idea and didn't even get into the vile dark things that could happen with strangers in a room. At a convention you can run away from people who scare you, on a showmasters holiday you are stuck with them and ANYTHING could/can happen. Thats a very scary thought considering the age range of people who I've seen at conventions and there innocence. Think I'm going on a sailing holiday, anyway.
6. I <3 the mooncup. i hate being made to feel unwelcome and people who judge books by the wrong cover.
7. You should try turning stalker like and getting extra work, take one of the 100000 jobs starting to appear at the bbc and granada, and hang out in train stations. Or become a london cabby. Stars always need transport.
8. I was talking to a friend about this the other day. He said the exact same thing and was trashed on vodka at the time. We discussed how it was silly to pay to stay in a place to be with friends because a company organises it for you. Anyone with an imagination and the motivation could book a youth hostle with a group of friends and have a whale of a time. We agreed that the only people who would pay a company to book something so easy would be children (in this I mean young adults in the 15-19 bracket) and the legality of the whole situation of them having people under 18 at such a thing with alcohol available was very unprofessional. I think s+m have a good idea here and could make themselves alot of money; they just have to plan and think about it in a legal/ethical/moral manner to ensure that its both safe and fun. I'm sure parents of said young adults are under the impression that there children are in safe hands are not going to be subject to bing drinking, drug taking and strangers from the internet hitting on them. Think I'll stick with seeing my friends by planning it with them, and not with a company.
