1. Hey everyone, I have just finished scanning my first batch of predrawn sketch cards that will be available for purchase at Collectormania. You can check them out here: www.randymartinez.net/england.html Enjoy and first come first served. P.S. Prices will be coming very shortly. Randy
2. so Randy if I wanted a sketch say of me and Gollum how much would it be if I send a photo of myself is that something you can do 921558 Yes I can do what your asking. But email me about it. randy@randymartinez.net
3. I'm doing everything Cynthia said she is doing in reguards to a sign up list. Except I don't do Paypal. I've had problems with them. But, I'm happy to take orders there that I take home and finish, then send out. Phopt ops are ALWAYS available. Ask Cynthia, I'm one of the biggest hams there is. Randy
4. I think Evolution comes out next month. Hey everyone! Long time no post. I've been pretty busy around here tying some jobs up so I can focus on my journey to GMEX. While I am not taking preorders (since it's to late to send deposits), I am going to do a bunch of pre drawn cards. So far I have: 2 Vaders 2 Mauls 2 Aaylas 1 Jango Fett 1 Grievous 1 Kit Fisto I would really like your input on what characters are popular in England. Others I was planning: R2D2 2 Padme Obi Wan Anakin Captain Typhoid (since he will be there) Boba Fett Darth Sidious Count Dooku Yoda Gimli Sauron legoland (orlando bloom) Any thing else? I will be making a sign up list at the con, but am limiting it to what I can get done each day. I've never been to England so I will not be doing work over night (sorry). So get there early to place your order. I will also have extra large cards 5.5 X 4.25 available too. These are really cool, and I have special sleeves for them. All those interested in having Topps cards recreated or colored in feel free to bring those too. BTW, my "trade in" deal will be valid in England too. I will be doing 9 1/2 X 14s at the con too. I have not decided how much everything will cost, but I will definitely be making special "First time in England" prices. I really want to make a big splash and show my appreciation to all the fans in Europe. More on that very soon. I will have freebees too, so come get them while they last. Finally, Both Cynthia and I look fabulous in pictures so don't be afraid to take a few snaps of us :) hehe. No really. Take lots of pictures of us, I'm a ham!!:) Randy
5. cool, for another SM events? How long do u stay in Europe? 908010 I'm thinking of coming back for another show, and hopefully other SM events. We'll be in England through the 20th! Randy may go jaunting about for even longer, but I have projects and deadlines to return to! VERY exciting about seeing England for the first time! See everyone soon! 909119 Yes, i will be adventuring around England and France with Cynthia till the 20th, then I am going to Rome for 7 days. This will be my second visit to Europe (I went to the French riviera in October 2005), and I intend to keep making trips. I loved the littel bit of Italy I saw my last trip, which is why I'm going to Rome this time. If I can learn Italian, I would consider living there for a while. See if I can convince Cynthia to come along:) hehe. really though she and I are both really excited to see Engalnd and meet all you wonderful people. Also, we are both very open to suggestions on travel, dinning, lodging, social activity. I know we both really want to absorb the culture. Totally not the "Ugly American". I am excited about the con, meeting fans and making new clients in Europe.
6. Hey Vegas! Remember "What happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas." :) I will have some pre done cards, As many as I can do before the show so I am not swamped by on the spot commissions. That always happens, and some fans don;t get to buy any art, so I'm trying to change that. I do Caricatures from pictures for like 90% of my Caricatures. So YEs to that too. I'd be happy to sign work. My most iconic piece of work would be the sisteen chepel so if you can bring that along...just kidding, anything that is from the Star Wars magazines. I don;t know what has or hasn't been published in Englands version of the Insider. I may bring some prints to sell, but I'm not sure yet. We will have a blast! Also, to someone elses questions, I am not related directly to Billy Martinez. Martinez is one of thee most common latino names in the US, so somwhere down the family we are probably related, but I don't know him personally. Randy P.S. How is teh weather in England in February?
7. Ok ok. Yes Cynthia is one of my favoritre artists. But some of my other favorites are (in no particular order): 1.Drew Struzan 2. Sergio Aragonez 3. Vincent Van Gogh 4. Jack Davis 5. Mort Drucker 6. Edgar Degas 7. Leonardo Devinci 8. Teryll Whitlatch 9. Telous Loutrec 10. Philip Burk The list could go on and on. 905953 Hey don't forget the Aspen Comics guys (lol) 905956 I have to admit, I was not familiar with Aspen Comics before you mentioned it here. I just looked them up on the web. Nice work. More than that I really appreciate the way they are trying to change things in the comic book industry. Aspen are you connected to Aspen comics somehow or just a fan?
8. Ok ok. Yes Cynthia is one of my favoritre artists. But some of my other favorites are (in no particular order): 1.Drew Struzan 2. Sergio Aragonez 3. Vincent Van Gogh 4. Jack Davis 5. Mort Drucker 6. Edgar Degas 7. Leonardo Devinci 8. Teryll Whitlatch 9. Telous Loutrec 10. Philip Burk The list could go on and on.
9. Well thanks man. I wish we could pick up Matt along the way to England.Great guy. Pretty good artist too. I embarrass Matt everytime I see him by telling everyone the story of how he took me under his wing at SW Celebration 2. Long story short, he made me feel like I belonged, and gave me a shot of confidence that has led me to where I am now. Eternally greatful! Randy
10. Triumph is one of my favorites. The Star Wars bit was probably the all time greatest. I rarely meet Star Wars fans who are criticle about that piece because teh Unique thing about Star Wars fans is they are able to laugh at them selves more than any other fan group. I myself included! So, I have some news for you guys. The 3 cards I posted for Lord of the Rings, were just a gag. At least they are not really going to be part of the set that you can pull from packs. These 3 cards are mearly sketches for the 6 cards Topps sends back to each artist. With those I will probably do these. I thought it woudl be at least fun for fans to get a laugh out of the sketches. Oh man, the fury those cards caused on other message boards. It was time to ease some nerves and reveal it was a Gag. But, now people get it was a joke. I am quite the prankster
11. Great, the more people the merrier! Great advice. The whole trip should be a blast for C and I. we will be visiting friends and other parts of England and France (hopefully) after the show. I'm getting pumped man! About your question: May I paraphrase Mr. Kenobi: "Chancelor Palpatine, Caricatures are my specialty!" Randy
12. Yes, I stay up pretty late. I have heard of Dr. Who but I have never seen it. But keep coming with suggestions. Cynthia and I will have our personal sketch cards their. I know my cards are pretty easy to come by and for pretty cheap on line. Just do some digging and I'm sure you can find some. I did 6000 Topps Star Wars sketch cards total. So their are plenty out there. I would love to do a cooperative piece with Cynthia. I woudl love a long line. My biggest problem is I love to talk to fans and it always slows me down. But I get it all done. I think after the first of the year I will start taking preorders. Stay tuned. Randy
13. Great questions people. My cards that I turn into Topps (that can be pulled from packs) take me a few minutes each. Topps has me do a high number of cards because of my abilty to draw fast. Some complain because they are much less detailed then some of the others, but most like it because A. many fans like owning a piece of my process (the sketch phase), and B. it really opens up the option for me to be funny since they are bascly cartoons. I think the word that best describes my style on these cards is "fun". The color cards you see on line are "after market cards" meaning some fans who pull my cards commission me to recreate something on their card. Sometimes they simply ask me to finish what is already on the card, sometimes they have me do something different all together. Because I do so many cards some fans get upset that they get so many of my cards, and none of the other artists cards. I feel for those fans, so I offer a trade in deal to get discounts on my after market cards, which you can read about at my site. Fans seem to really appreciate it and like the chance to get a full color sketch card. I will definitely do some Harry Potter cards to bring out to England. I don't know a lot about Narnia, but it seems liek it 's got a big presense at GMEX, so I will probably at least do those actors who will there. What about King Kong? Is Monty Python still big in England? Keep giving me thise suggestions! Randy
14. Here are three og mine! Though I don't know if the jokes will make much sense in England. http://www.randymartinez.net/art/sketchcar...otr-triumph.jpg http://www.randymartinez.net/art/sketchcar...-lotr-smith.jpg http://www.randymartinez.net/art/sketchcar...pps-lotr-bk.jpg 903593 lol and how many are you doing in total 903594 i did 1000
15. Here are three og mine! Though I don't know if the jokes will make much sense in England. http://www.randymartinez.net/art/sketchcar...otr-triumph.jpg http://www.randymartinez.net/art/sketchcar...-lotr-smith.jpg http://www.randymartinez.net/art/sketchcar...pps-lotr-bk.jpg
16. BTW : not every one here is British some of us are french , german , netherlands I'm Israeli :) and we all like just about the same things . You see, this is why I Travel. So I can learn what people are like all over the world. My apologies for not considering the other nationals in Engalnd. The last thing I want is to be "The Ugly America":) Sp, Star Wars is big, LOTR, how about Harry Potter? Randy
17. Hey Cynthia, Great article. Thanks for mentioning me (blushes). Wow, glad to see so much interest in our attendance at GMEX. I will be bringing a number of things to share and make available for purchase. I will be bringing plenty of Sketch cards (both standard 2.5 X3.5 and oversized 5.5 X4.25 )to do on site. Black and White or color marker. I will also have a variety of predrawn sketch cards to choose from. I will have a limited amount of prints to sell, as I am limited to how much weight I bring on the plane (But I will try to bring as much as possible). Of course I will also have plenty of bristol board for larger commissions. I of course will have Plenty of Star Wars. But I have never been to England, so I'm not quite sure what my British friends would like to see in my pre drawn sketch cards. So any recomendations on what is hot and groovy there woudl be great. Like Cynthia, I too am doing Lord of the Rings Sketch Cards for Topps. Infact I'm taking a little break from them right now to post here on teh boards. It's exciting, but I'm doing 1000 cards so it's a bit tiring too. Great to be here! Randy
18. Thanks Skylover, i am really excited to be attending GMEX. My first time to England, and its doing something really cool like this. Can't wait to meet everyone. Randy
