  1. This was my first time at a convention and I will say I enjoyed my day, but mostly because of the friends I took with me and we managed to get tickets for the free talks. We queued 45 minutes before it opened and then another 30 mins in the line for talks. Have to say that £29 for entrance was a rip-off though. Almost EVERYTHING required extra money. Poorly laid out/cramped, so temporary and flimsy, even the Enterprise panel mocked the poor quality. Programs for £10, that's a profit of about £9.00 a time. My favourite part was meeting Scott Bakula for a photo, the photo came very quickly which was great but also I still had to wonder why they couldn't send me a digital file. Have had to scan it and clean it up manually. I was tempted to get the bridge photo shoot, until I saw it, it was awful, ply-board and 1 light turned on in the background. Would have been better to green screen it. The stores had nothing of interest, we all said we'd have bought a tribble or a com-badge or something for maybe £10 (still a pretty decent mark-up) but there was none! I did hear someone say they had tribbles going for £50?! My guess is that Showmasters made an absolute mint. I know I won't go to another convention run by them
  2. Think this is going slightly off-topic, I was really hoping to hear from showmasters on whether this is something they would look at it, plenty of time to get it sorted before October. It isn't the massively over-complicated million pound overhaul everyone seems to think it would be. Is there an official word, should I ask someone specifically to get an official word? The current poll results show it's as wanted as just prints, with the majority preferring both. All high resolution Digital [ 9 ] [18.75%] All printed [ 10 ] [20.83%] All/Mostly Digital and some printed [ 2 ] [4.17%] All/Mostly printed and some Digital [ 4 ] [8.33%] Both Digital and Printed [ 23 ] [47.92%]
  3. Hi-Res digital for me. I'm already slightly nervous about transporting this £30 piece of paper back home on the train without scuffing/warping/bending/spilling milkshake all over it! :-P
  4. Out of all the ways I've heard not to do it, there are a million ways it could be done, in use all across the world, every day. I like having a big digital file to play with, maybe so I can thrown in a star trek background and get it printed on a canvas. You lose that quality with scans. It seems the will isn't there to change the system, that's fair enough, I'm still excited about coming, but I probably won't spend as much on photos.
  5. That is a pretty sweet looking ticket. Way out of my price range, but extremely desirable!
  6. Just like to add that I think Digital versions of the photo should be a relatively simple affair and really should be added. I'd hate to have my print accidentally bent on the train home and that's £25-£40 down the drain. There are numerous ways to do it, Disney have a great system. You register a card to yourself and then whenever you have a picture taken, throughout the whole day, the photographer simply scans the card (takes seconds) and then at the end of the day you can go check all your prints. Have them put on a USB stick etc. I'd prefer to just have the digital version then a print! My photos go on my PC/Facebook/iPad. I have maybe 1 or 2 in actual print, all my old photos have been scanned into my PC, sorted in Picasa and the originals destroyed. A low-tech solution might be better than a whole system, though it seems odd such a big company wouldn't have one. The photos are transferred to a PC somewhere. Simply write the name of the file (or create a new code) on the back of the photo, when I pick my photo up, I give someone my e-mail address. They have the photo number and my e-mail address, they can send them out within a few days of the event. Or as someone else said, I say, this is my print, can I have the digital version for a fiver extra please. They transfer it to a 256mb drive, should take about 30 seconds and they get paid for the additional service. Everyone's a winner!

  10. Man this is getting exciting! Coming down with my brother and best friend for the Saturday - First time at any sort of Con, really looking forward to it. May be a noob question, but I assume those photos are for one person only? Couldn't be me and my brother with Scott Bakula for instance. What i'm really hoping for is a group photo, will all five captains, that all 3 of us can pitch in and get. That would be epic!
  11. That sounds awesome, I feel the same way, but can't afford the big ticket, so just the Saturday for me sounds like it'll be great :-)
