With the under performing box office results of 'Scott Pilgrim Vs The World' and 'Kick Ass' Spielberg has decided to go a different direction with the 'Locke and Key' Comic Book franchise!

Spielberg is instead turning the 'Locke and Key' comic book franchise into a TV Series (not a Movie) to be distributed by Fox Studios, more from the NY Mag:

"First released in 2008, Locke & Key revolves around three kids who end up watching over a secret, spooky New England mansion filled with mystical doors that transport them to different worlds and give them special powers (like turning into a ghost). Dimension had purchased the TV and film rights to the IDW Publishing series back in 2008, not long after the first installment came out (several installments have followed, including one released earlier this month)."

Kurtzman and Orci have been signed on to be the writing duo attached to this spooky franchise.

Could be sugar, could be salt? Just like every other Franchise Sand Box these two get to play in!

Josh Friedman has also been thrown in the Writer mix!

One important fun fact here is that the creator of 'Locke and Key' is in fact Joe Hill who is in fact Stephen King's son. So, if it's true that talent skips a generation then Joe could end up being a flop or a success, depending on your point of view.www.comicbookmovies.com

Update: Fox will air the series, says Deadline, which is expected to run next summer, so look for updates on this one to come pretty fast.

Joe Hill's comic book Locke & Key is eschewing a run in theaters and will instead be adapted for television.

Alex Kurtzman, Robert Orci, Steven Spielberg and Josh Friedman will oversee the project. Hill, son of Stephen King, also penned "Heart-Shaped Box" and "Horns."

Distributed by IDW Publishing, "Locke & Key" tells of Keyhouse, an unlikely New England mansion, with fantastic doors that transform all who dare to walk through them...and home to a hate-filled and relentless creature that will not rest until it forces open the most terrible door of them all.

Friedman (Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles) will write and produce. Kurtzman and Orci recently signed a deal with 20th Century Fox TV, so the studio will end up producing with Spielberg's DreamWorks TV.
