Advice for Newbie

Hi all. Well, I started with a teeny fib. I'm not a complete newbie as the London CM in Nov last year was my first. I was only there for a short time but loved it so much I've just booked a plane ticket for this one.

I just wanted to get as much advice as possible since I'm having to travel from Jersey (Channel Island). I'm about to book into the hotel at the stadium as friends just told me they can't put me up, though they're picking me up from Luton.

I'm a major Trekkie so of course I want photo's with all the Trek Actors. I'm wanting to know which I should pay for now and which would be safe to wait for 'till I'm there. I'm guessing Martok and Gowron are going to be a sellout so I'm already guessing you guys will suggest I buy that now. I see Kate Mulgrew is doing photos on the sat and sun. Are either days likely to overlap with one of the other's (Tim or Robert)? Would you suggest I book in for Tim and Robert on the saturday and then the Klingon shoot and Kate on the sunday?

I would love to meet up with some of you regulars as London last year was a last minute thing and I didn't have a chance to organise anything.

Here's a couple of pics from last year so that you guys will recognise me. lol

Hi,

I might not have the best advice as I'm something of a newbie myself, however I have attended another SM event. I don't believe any of the photo sessions will overlap - they only do one at a time as far as I know. So it should be up to you which you want to do on which day. :)

Actually, the main reason I'm replying is that I'm also a huge Trekkie and am also going over from Jersey :) I've booked in at the stadium and will be making travel plans in the near future. So - hello! I didn't actually know any other Trekkies over here until today. :)

(And I was at that JB show as well. ;))

Hopefully I'll see you there to say hi!

Hello,

Sorry to inform you that it is possible photoshoots may overlap. It depends on how many guests end up doing photoshoots. If there are enough then there may well be two photoshoot areas. Here is an edited post of the Sunday schedule for the previous Collectormania 15

Times for photo ops & talk times for C15

Talks Sun

Nathan Fillion 12.00 pm

bttf talk 12.30 pm

RICHARD CHAVES 1.00 pm

trek talk 1.30 pm

photo ops SUN A

Burn Gorman 10.20 am

LEONARD NIMOY 11.10 am

Philip Glenister 12.05 pm

BEN BROWDER 1.05 pm

Nathan Fillion 2.05 pm

Tony Amendola 3.00 pm

Photo ops SUN B

RICHARD CHAVES 10.20 am

bttf photo op 10.35 am

JOHN DELANCIE 11.05 am

KERRI GREEN 11.35 am

RACHEL LUTTRELL 12.05 pm

LIZ MAY BRICE 12.30 pm

ANDREW ROBINSON 1.05 pm

AVERY BROOKS 1.20 pm

Geoffrey Hughes 2.05 pm

we are running two Photo ops side buy side, if you have tickets for two photo pos running at the same time go to the one thats running for the shortest amount of time.

if you are not sure what to do then talk to the crew member with a Red shirt that can help you more on the day so you get both the photo ops ;)

As you can see Leonard Nimoy had a photoshoot the same time as John DeLancie. Although as Johns was allocated for a shorter amount of time you would go to that fuirst then Leonards after. If you do have a overlap then it is also worrth mentioning to the crew at the photoshoot area that you have another photoshoot taking place at the same time, and then they will move you as close to the front of the queue as possible. I have had frequent overlaps and thanks to the helpful crew, and the system itself, I have never missed one yet. The only real clash problem is with any possible talks you may wish to attend (if there are any).

Photoshoots rarely sell out, only for the more rare/very popular guests (Leonard Nimoys for example did if I recall). I would recommend getting the Klingon photoshoot in advance as that is fairly unique and may well sell out. I doubt Kate/Tim/Robert will. It is easier to get them in advance though as, apart from the knowledge you have one secured, there is usually a long queue for photoshoot sales on the day - it will be one queue for all of the photoshoot tickets, not an individual queue for each guest

Thanks Mev and 1 of 2.

1 of 2...I'll probably end up ordering all the photo shoots online to be on the safe side. Thanks for the advice. I may well want to go to talks as well (didn't have time at CM15) so will have to be careful when sorting that out. How soon do they give us times for the talks and photo shoots?

Mev... Hi fellow Bean (or honorary bean if you're not originally from here).

I'm getting the Flybe flight on the friday to Luton (around 2pm) and coming back on the Monday from Luton too. We might be on the same flight. I think I have a friend picking me up from the airport and taking me to the stadium but she can't take me back to the airport so might be on the same coach. My friend who lives in MK says the Coach is a better idea than the train as it'll take you straight there rather than a change near London or something.

John Barrowman......I was in the front row across to the left. My friend who came over from Guernsey got the first towel and a kiss from JB...cow. lol. We went to La Cage aux Folles together and I dragged her to CM15 which she loved almost as much as me I think. Of course I'm a Sci-fi freak so adored seeing George Takai though couldn't afford a pic. My fave there was Jason Momoa, also being a big StarGate Fan. Also enjoyed seeing Gareth (Ianto) and Kai (Rhys) from Torchwood...which was her highlight.

Hiya,

There tends to be 2 photo areas at the events and so there's a possibility that photo sessions you want will overlap.

The photo tickets also tend to be colour coded (colour strip down the right hand side) and the queues are by colour code, so it's possible to roughly estimate when you'll get through.

My advice would be that if you have 2 sessions which overlap go to the one which starts first, or if they start at @ the same time, go to the one with the shortest allocated time, @ 10-15mins earlier (or when a crew member is there) and explain to the crew member that you have a clash and they will ensure that you get through in time to get to the other session.

I've had several clashes at the last 3 or 4 events I've been to and have always got my photos done with no problem - just needed a bit of planning when the times are announced on the forum, turning up to the first session early, speaking to the crew member and then just relaxing.

I'm also interested in the Klingon session (and have ordered my ticket already as I expect it to be a sellout), and the Tim & Robert sessions. With Tim & Robert I don't expect that they'll have really massive queues for them so may wait until the day and see if they're doing posed photos at the autograph desk. This 'plan' may change though depending on what time the photo sessions are, whether there'd be time beforehand to get their autograph and whether they're doing photos at the desk (if not then I need to get photo session tickets).

In the end it comes down to planning (especially if you want to see a number of people and want to go to talks etc) and personal preferences.

As I've been to quite a number of these now I always work out my personal schedule beforehand based on time of photo sessions/talks/who I want to see and their likely popularity/what days they're going to be there etc.

This way I'm not dashing about trying to work out 'what's next' and always fit everything in and generally have a relaxing, stress-free couple of days.

Kate I've met before and she's a great person to meet and chat to.

Hope this helps.

Cheers & maybe bump into you in one of the queues!

Thanks for the advice! I didn't know that. But I'm sure I'll be able to figure it out. :)

@starjadzia - I am indeed a fellow bean :) I'm coming over Thursday and leaving Tuesday, though, so there aren't any Luton flights those days - I'll be flying into good ol' Gatwick instead and either getting a train or three or the coach (which is direct, so no piddling about on the Tube). Perhaps I'll see you there though! :)
