Stuart
Okay, lets talk weirdness. There have been superheroes in comics for over sixty years, so long that to many, the genre is synonymous with them. So it's hardly surprising that alongside all the really cool and interesting ones, there's been some ... more unusual ones. This thread is dedicated to those heroes (and villains). The ones that make you go "Wha..?", the ones which make other heroes snigger when they run into them, the ones that make you think "The person who came up with them must have been on some seriously weird drugs when they thought of that one." If you ever read a comic with such a character, here's your chance to tell everyone else about them. Anyone can join in. Images or links are welcome, but not vital. And to start everyone off, here's a couple to begin with: Fruitman - a hero who can transform himself into any kind of fruit. Originally appearing in "Bunny, the Queen of the In Crowd" (which itself is a bit of a weird name for a comic), Fruitman battled crime in the forms of apples, lemons, bananas, blueberries and oranges. Madam Fatal - when retired actor Richard Stanton's daughter was kidnapped, he rescued her himself, cunningly disguised as an old lady. Deciding that someone needed to help the police fight crime, he continued to adventure as Madam Fatal, the world's first transvestite hero (and this was back in the 1940s!). GoldenGreen
O.K. not a comic, but a film with rubbish super heroes: Mystery Men And probably the Shoveller , played by William H Macy out of that film. Stuart
O.K. not a comic, but a film with rubbish super heroes: Mystery Men And probably the Shoveller , played by William H Macy out of that film. 853285[/snapback] You mean these guys? And this guy in particular? They actually are from a comic, as the movie is adapted from the characters who first appeared in Flaming Carrot #17. and this is the original comic version of the Shoveler He's even more bizarre in the comic version, where he is armed with "King Arthur's legendary singing shovel" which he discovered while digging a ditch. The Mysterymen first appeared in the title of one of the most bizarre superheroes of all time, The Flaming Carrot. "Once a mild-mannered existential poet employed by the phone company, he read over 5,000 comic books in a single sitting to win a bet. He won, but his mind could not take the strain, and he became simple. Now as the superhero Flaming Carrot he battles evil in the modern world!" He donned the costume seen in the picture, but has no real powers, simply relying on a gun, broken bottle and complete insanity to fight threats such as an army of cloned Hitler feet. Now that's seriously weird!
