  1. Just consider how much some of the main cast were at a very recent Star Wars event in the UK! Cheap they ain't any more :coolthumb:

Tell me about it. I went! And I paid for 2 autos from Mark Hamill!

My logic was: Hamill had to be heavily persuaded by Abrams to get paid (apparently) up to $4m for 60 seconds of screen time in Force Awakens. He seems fan friendly now but his fees are clearly getting bigger and I worry there may come a day where he's had enough of it all. But in the meantime, combine the love for the original trilogy held by existing fans and mix that with new fandom this sequel trilogy will bring, where Luke & Leia feature more heavily moving forward and I think those two autographs inparticular will get ever more expensive and harder to get.

I'm glad that I got Carrie Fisher at LFCC 2014 for £20 less than what was being charged at this recent 'unnamed' Star Wars event. Nice to see Showmasters keep autograph prices cheaper for all the same guests. And to think I dithered over getting Carrie at the time. Glad I didn't now!

  2.

All I can say is that with the films being back as they are I would wonder if his price will go down in the next few years. Whilst only you can decide and I certainly wouldn't advise anyone to spend more than they can afford, would you regret not getting it?

With the popularity of Star Wars somehow getting even bigger than it already was, and a new film coming out every year, you expect interest and prices to go DOWN? Sorry, not going to happen. I expect prices will keep creeping up until they can no longer do these events.

I don't at all. My comment was a statement rather than a hope. I was saying like you are, that Star Wars, incredibly popular as it was, is being launched into the stratosphere now with the raft of films that are coming out and I would seriously doubt his price will go down any time soon. So for those commenting that they thought £40 is steep, if they want to get him, I don't see his price changing anytime soon.

Sorry, I misread "I would wonder" as "I wonder"! My bad. So I think we're both right! Price are likely only to go UP!

  3. when i met paul mcgann at collectormania in 2014 there was alien 3 prints,so its likely that there will be alien 3 prints at this event

When they are there they always seem to be the same one of him facing forward with his co-star Danny Webb staring at the side of him. Sadly it's a pretty low quality image as high-def publicity stills are in short supply for Alien3.

  4.

will sm have an Aliens photo on the day? ive noticed with the dr who guests that that's all there is. would love an aliens pic to go with the rest I have from sm

If you want a specific print it is always best to make sure you have your own as if SM said a specific print was going to be there on the day it is entirely possible that by the time you got to the guest that they had all gone.

    Good advice.

I remember when I saw Ralph Brown at Winter LFCC, I wanted him for Alien3 and at about midday I got the very last Alien3 pic he had on his table. I would have been GUTTED if that picture hadn't been there. Same story with Michael Madsen and a particular Kill Bill pic I really wanted from a dealer's stall who only had one left.

If I'm remembering correctly, they on the Saturday at LFCC last year they ran out of HARRY POTTER photos for Michael Gambon!

  5.

    £40 !!??

I'm pretty sure every show I've attended that he attended , he was £15 ?!!!

That's not true. When I met him at LFCC two years ago (I think) he was 20 or 25 pounds. Glad I met him then, but it's not uncommon that guests suddenly become more expensive when they're back in the spotlight (Star Wars 7)

Yes Mads is what £40 this year? When I met him in 2008 he was £20-£25 an autograph. Of course he's now in a Star Wars film and Dr Strange so attracts a premium - all down to timing.

I remember his first Showmasters event was LFCC in 2007 before I got into collecting autos in person, so even though I attended, I didn't see him. I realised afterward as a huge James Bond fan that I should have got him and really regretted it. Then in 2008 he got announced as a guest at Collectormania Midlands in Coventry so I seized the opportunity and he was the very first guest I ever met.

Everyone was going nuts for Bruce Campbell who was there and Mads didn't get a look in, even at only £15. I told him I thought he was one of the very best Bond villains and he said, "I wish you'd tell everyone else that" because he was so quiet. I went on the Saturday, and I was one of only 10 people who had a photoshoot with him. And he had only 5 photos on the Sunday. I think he will have a very different experience next weekend.

I might sound mean but I am glad people are paying a lot more for Mads Mikkelsen now because he was always a terrific actor and extremely fan friendly. I haven't met many guests as thoroughly nice as him. Patience has paid off and I think a very deserving actor has finally cracked Western audiences: with Bond, Hannibal, Marvel's Doctor Strange and now Star Wars on his CV he's only going to get even more well known.

  6. All I can say is that with the films being back as they are I would wonder if his price will go down in the next few years. Whilst only you can decide and I certainly wouldn't advise anyone to spend more than they can afford, would you regret not getting it?

With the exception of Jeremy Bulloch who has been £15 for a signature for as long as I can remember, Dave Prowse has gone up to £20 (from £15), Kenny Baker up to £25 (from £15), and Peter Mayhew has jumped to £40 (from £15, £20, £25 the last couple of years).

Over the last few years Peter Mayhew has been doing far fewer signings in the UK and his signature has gotten a lot shakier and inconsistent, Prowse has got a bit slower at the desk, and Kenny has been on restrictive duties signing for fewer hours on certain days, and very slowly at that. I'm not even sure if Kenny and Mayhew personalise anymore (would be happy to be clarified on that one!).

It will be a very sad day when it happens, and not to sound too morbid, but due to age and ill health, the Star Wars stalwarts of the UK convention circuit will not be with us forever. Dave Prowse is 81, Kenny Baker 81, Jeremy Bulloch 71, and Peter Mayhew 72.

I think because we see them all so regularly at the shows we take it for granted that they'll be there forever. I know I am guilty of this and have walked past their desks and thought "I'll get them next time." Well, all four will be at LFCC and all four are integral people to a series of films I love so much. I am going to grab the chance to see them all whilst I can, before it becomes a regret. And at prices that are a lot more reasonable that at the official Star Wars conventions.

  7. I am so annoyed that guests are committed to attend conventions/events but a month or 2 weeks or 1 week or even few days before the actual day they decide to cancel events due to other commitments. If guests have filming to do, appear on chat show etc, they should not attend any events unless they are 100% available to attend, its not fair on the fans who are looking forward to meeting them. Its the fans that keeps them going, make them popular and pay for guests to appear. Latest cancellation is Ron Perlman. I feel for the fans who were excited to meet him, get a photo shoot , autograph and spend lots of money for travel, accommodation, buying souvenirs etc. Guests should think about their fans instead of deciding to cancel at the last minute. Organisers will have to do their part to make sure guests can be available and committed 100% at the event otherwise get someone else. Events like LFCC, Collectormania, Star Trek, Dr Who, Star Wars, etc you always get cancellation from guests. They do get plenty of time to be invited to events. Guests if you attend DON'T CANCEL AND UPSET YOU FANS.

    Sorry but no.

It is disappointing when someone you want to meet cancels (and I was going to see Ron) but as people have already said, it is the nature of the beast and film/tv roles are how these guests make a living so have to take priority. Don't forget as well that they wouldn't have as many fans who'd want to see them if they didn't take more roles to get their face out there.

  8. Does anyone know where i can get original goldeneye 27 X 40 poster in excellent condition ? No rips or creases. I brought one from eBay and i received badly damaged

You don't say which poster you are after, with some original designs much harder to find than others: international advance, US advance, international regular, US regular (the 4 main English language one-sheets for the film that measure 27x40 inches) and double or single sided - which can make a huge difference to the price!

You have the UK advance and regular quads as well that measure 30x40 inches, and are arguably the most desired Bond posters as they are 'country of origin' posters, the films being British of course.

GoldenEye is my favourite Bond film, and one of my favourite films ever, and even after 14 off years collecting posters, I only have double-sided versions of the two UK quads and the international regular one-sheet because the other 3 I have had problems finding in this country in the double-sided format, in the condition I want for the price I want. Mine are near-mint/mint but purchased many years ago, all on eBay from sellers whose photos and condition descriptions made me want to buy.

eBay is still your best bet for fairly priced original and for finding a seller who can work with you to get something posted out quickly but you've got to remember we're talking about posters that are 20 years old now, most will not be absolutely mint. They are still out there but unfortunately not always when you want them. The perfect poster could be listed a week after the show. It's just the way it goes with this sort of thing when the film is not the hot release of the month.

  9. Thankfully for my wallet, not as many as last year! It may be a shorter list, but I feel a strong one:

    Will be getting autographs from:

    Famke Janssen - for GoldenEye

Ron Perlman - for Alien Resurrection

Rutger Hauer - for Blade Runner

Carl Weathers - for Happy Gilmore

(only having photoshoots with Janssen & Perlman)

Had I not already met Mads Mikkelsen back in 2008, I would DEFINITELY be meeting him. Can't recommend him highly enough.

My back-up list that I may/may not get on the day:

    Steven Berkoff - for Bond

Keith David - for The Thing

Jon Heder - for Blades of Glory

Laurie Holden - for The X-Files

  10. It was at one Collectormania that a friend sensed body odour, yet I did not.

I've not had any problems as I usually only go for one day.

Since I'll be going to all three days, it probably wouldn't hurt for me to bring a can of deodorant just in case.

Is that meant to be serious or ironic?

If you're going on what is a least a 3-day trip, surely there would be a trip to the shower at least once given the long hot days at conventions? So yeah, I'd say it "probably wouldn't hurt" to bring deodorant. I'd say more of a no-brainer actually.

  11.

A bit of a total side note, but did Sigourney Weaver personalise last year?

I can't recall hearing anything. She definitely did not when I was in line.

No as far as I'm aware she wasn't personalising at all that weekend and I think there was some strict rules with this one, a couple of guys in front of me had post-its on with their names which they were asked to remove before handing their pics over to the crew as she was not personalising

There was one guy on the forum that posted a pic of his signed & personalised photoshoot print, lucky sod.

Besides that lone example, I did not see anyone on the day get a personalisation, and no-one else on here said they managed to get one either.

  12.

Whether cosplay or 'regular' clothes, I wish that all attendee attire was simply clean. And worn with deodorant.

Can we make this convention law?

    PLEASE.

I often wonder what I would think/how I would react if I were a guest at one of these things.

I am biased as an attendee of these events that I think celebs should engage with their fans, without whom they wouldn't have their careers and wealth. That said, I think I would genuinely struggle with meeting some of the fans who attend.

Brent Spiner springs to mind as a guest who has hand santizer on his table and goes with the fist-bumps because he prefers not to shake hands. I am of much the same mindset but unlike Brent who puts in the effort to put his arm around people in his photoshoots, I think I would be the type to stand there inanimate with everyone just so I didn't have to touch the odd few who reek. The stench of some people is truly offensive and I do not understand how some people can leave the house in such a state. They should be ashamed of themselves. If you can afford to pay for autographs, soap and water will not break the bank.

But forget what I think, I would have thought the fan would want their hero/idol to not be disgusted by them?

  13. Dithered over an auto from him at Brighton last year, and being tight I didn't bother in the end which I regret and didn't expect to see him back so soon. Must have walked past his table about 10 times.

At the end of the show I had to call my breakdown cover to the event hotel and decided to wait in the bar. I ordered my drink and then Mr Weathers sidled up next to me to order a martini, the cool cat! Couldn't believe how MAHOOSIVE he was, having only seen him sat behind a table previously. Bartender didn't even have a clue who he was. These 20-somethings who somehow have never seen Predator or Rocky. *sigh*

Great announcement, especially for the Rocky fans seeing Dolph at this show. I will be getting him for Happy Gilmore though!

  14. £100 is a lot of money for a bit of ink but to me it is about the opportunity to meet a hero/someone you admire however briefly. Some guests are great at signing through the mail for free, but as someone who has always enjoyed collecting autographs, I do place a massive premium on knowing the thing signed in front of me is 100% legit, so I would be happy to 'break the bank' for certain people.

I'll start by saying that I would have paid £100+ for Patrick Stewart, Gillian Anderson in 2012/13, Sigourney Weaver last year and Famke Janssen this year. All from my personal dream list of guests who I am very grateful cost A LOT less than what I would have been prepared to pay.

The others I'd find the money for because no doubt their fees to attend would be large:

    - Timothy Dalton

    - Sean Connery

    - Roger Moore

    - Judi Dench

    - Sean Bean

    - Al Pacino

    - Harrison Ford

    - James Earl Jones

    - Will Ferrell

    - Ian Holm

    - Harry Dean Stanton

    - Ridley Scott

    - James Cameron

    - Tom Hardy

    - Christian Bale

    - Michael Caine

    - Liam Neeson

    - Michelle Pfeiffer

    - Samuel L. Jackson

    - Bruce Willis

But these three I would rob the bank for! My top 3 guests who I would go into meltdown over if heaven and earth moved and somehow Showmasters persuaded them to attend:

    - Jack Nicholson

    - Arnold Schwarzennegger

    - Pierce Brosnan

  15. I get the odd table photo/selfie, it's a nice momento, but not fussed if I don't get one. I'll usually only ask for one if others in front are. But if I really like the guest then I will get a proper photoshoot that will come out a lot better than a crappy iphone pic.

To put it on record, I would NEVER pay for a table photo, let alone one that cost as much as professional one. And most importantly for me, as someone who is primarily an autograph collector, I hate the idea of table photos holding up already busy autograph queues. As has been said, people spend too long faffing about with their phone/camera, let alone the time actually needed to take the photo.

So thanks for the thread Jason, glad to hear there are no plans to introduce paid-for selfies.

  16. Who are these people saying Jeremy Renner is not a big guest???

I don't follow the films/franchises he is in, so I will not be meeting him, but I have nothing bad to say about the bloke or his career and he is clearly doing well for himself participating in blockbuster after blockbuster. Did anybody say 'Avengers'? This is a huge guest for sci-fi/action fans who attend these shows and he will be very popular I'm sure.

FFS Showmasters have given us a proper and current movie star. What is there to complain about?

  17. rouge_entity, I would hope for absolutely NO "Friday Exclusive" guests.

I would bet most attendees would find it difficult enough getting Sat and/or Sun off work if needs be without having to ensure they attended Fri as well to get a particular guest.

No offence to you but I find such suggestions quite selfish. I'm only going Saturday but I would hope that all guests could do all days (where possible) so everyone has the best chance of meeting them. Why would anyone WANT a guest restricted to just one day???

  18. I would love to see more 'mainstream' James Bond guests at more Showmasters events. Maybe still keep the rarer, more niche Bond guests like Ursula Andress and Michael Lonsdale for the likes of Autographica.

Mads Mikkelsen and Famke Janssen at LFCC are superb modern names.

I'm not going to suggest Pierce Brosnan etc. because it is so unlikely.

Realistically, Judi Dench signs a lot, and Roger Moore does LOADS of private signings every year. Too very fan friendly Bond ambassadors, not to mention national treasures. They would be SO popular.

    Other top suggestions:

Sean Bean - Game of Thrones and LOTR fans would also go nuts for him

Robert Carlyle - another fantastic British actor for Once Upon a Time, Stargate, and of course Trainspotting

Sophie Marceau - just look her up! In fact, give us more main Bond girls!

And I will reiterate my regular suggestion for more guests from the Alien series, in particular from ALIEN where the cast is not getting any younger.

We've just had Sigourney and John Hurt last year, and I would like to see Veronica Cartwight pop up again but the remaining 4 are a must:

    - I was gutted Yaphet Kotto cancelled Autographica 2012 having never met him

    - Harry Dean Stanton would be so cool

    - Ian Holm would be so popular especially because of LOTR

    - another shot at the rare Tom Skerritt would be a great opportunity for many I'm sure

  19. I was thinking that maybe for new guest announcements Showmasters want to hype up a bit, maybe they should simply do away with the word 'Big' or use it only in rare cases?

To be honest I hate it when people start getting defensive and I have to hear that everyone's idea of a 'big' guest is different. Well, sorry but no. Who is an important guest to meet will of course vary from fan to fan. But the Arnold Schwarzenneger or Stallone's of the world have massive, decades long careers that can't walk down the street without being mobbed by fans. You may not like them but they are BIG guests and should definitely have 'Big Guest' announcement threads. Sigourney Weaver, the Queen of sci-fi, and Michal J.Fox, an 80s movie icon are BIG guests.

Showmasters announcing Jett Lucas as a 'Big Guest' a couple years back will always stick in my mind as such a daft thing to do because he is not 'Big' in the slightest and it led to of the most head-scratchingly, disappointing guest threads I have ever seen, mainly because of how the SM helped hype it up.

It just seems that the word 'Big' gets people's imaginations going to the wildest possibilities meaning that no matter who gets announced, some will inevitably be disappointed their dream guest isn't attending. Then we always have varying levels moaning in that guest's thread (I have been guilty of this too), mods complain they have to clean up threads and we are always told a guest/agent may read negative comments and may be be put off from coming - something I would certainly not want to happen even if it was a guest I was not interested in meeting. But then again forum members understandably want to offer feedback. It's a bit of a catch-22.

Maybe moving forward we could see some more thoughtful thread intros that vaguely hint at who they could be:

    - First Time Guest

    - Great Return Guest

    - Prolific Stunt Guest

    - Classic Sci-Fi Movie Guest

    - New Horror Guest

I think it would lead to a more exciting guessing game beforehand and would lead to less disappointed fans after the announcement is made.

    Anyway, regarding this years lineup...

I think people remember statements from Jason like, "next year will be even better" and they will hold you to it. The unfair thing though is that what each person considers a 'good' or 'better' guest list subjective.

I met 9 guests at LFCC last year. The most I have ever met at a convention. I finally got to meet the elusive Ray Park, the rare Neve Campbell, one of my favourite Bond villains in Jonathan Pryce, the legend Michael Gambon, and as a HUGE Alien fan, 5 solid guests from that franchise at one event was epic, including only my favourite actress ever (Sigourney!). The stars aligned for me last year ;) and it would be hard for SM to ever top that event for me.

This year I am only meeting 3 so it feels something of an anti-climax but then I look at who I am meeting and I can't be disappointed:

Rutger Hauer for Blade Runner (one of the all-time classic sci-fi films), Ron Perlman (a fan favourite and a huge Alien series addition for me). Both of these guests I missed the first time they attended SM events so I am grateful SM chases people to return. But finally...

...FAMKE JANSSEN (only my favourite Bond girl in my favourite Bond film ever, PS. I'm a Bond fanatic). I NEVER thought I would get to meet her, she is about on the same level as Sigourney for me and will be a top 5 guest I have ever met. A great score for Marvel movie fans too.

(I also would be meeting Mads Mikkelsen had I not already met him before - another would be fantastic guest for me).

I think too many people look at the glass half-empty than half-full. I'm meeting only a third as many people as last time but they are important guests to me, and I couldn't care less if no-one else liked them. And hey, fewer guests every now and then means I save money but still meet a couple of greats I have always admired.

I feel this year's guest list lacks an obvious WOW factor but I will say it is certainly one of the most interesting guest lists I have seen with some very rare and unexpected names.

  20. Interesting question.

As someone who enjoys action figues/models etc. I cannot fathom why people get those signed. As a collectable it doesn't add any value in my eyes.

Patrick Stewart is one of my all-time favourite actors, but getting him to sign and enterprise model toy? Nick Frost on a Shaun of the Dead t-shirt? I just don't get it at all.

Posters I think can be really neat, so long as you have a few signatures on it, but I am the type to only go for the main names, not the background bit-parters. Also, as something of a poster collector, signatures for the most part de-value original movie posters but I wouldn't want signatures on a worthless reprint poster either! So I rarely get posters signed in the end.

I will always go for an 8x10 photo of the actor in my favourite role/roles. And the odd trading card here and there.

  21. Truly a Headlining guest if ever there was one and one worthy of a "Big guest announcement" thread. I would add the #FACT hashtag to this but it goes without saying.

People REALLY into movies know just how extensive Vic Armstrong's career is but sadly I think you're average Joe would not be familiar. I think there would be a lot of moaning in Big Announcement thread which would be more Showmasters' fault than Vic's!
