  1. sat here in absolute floods of tears... been trying to meet him for years, this was my birthday treat.. saved up so hard for this, am travelling a huge distance to meet this guy who might i add even named my son after! and he just cancels without a by or leave.. tomorrow i am getting my money back and cancelling the whole trip.... devastated dosent even cover how i feel right now thanks a lot!

Without a "by-your leave"? I understand your disappointment but Stewart, nor any other guest, needs anyone's permission to do change their schedules. Guests always appear subject to commitments.

I think your reaction is a bit OTT to be honest. Why can't you still meet him? He's not actually cancelled his appearance. Imagine if it were Jonathan Frakes you'd planned as your no. 1 guest.

Can anyone explain to me why if he is attending long enough to do autographs all 3 days , why couldn't they cancel the auto sessions and fit in the photo sessions at those times instead. i appreciate that alot of people want his autograph but all photos had been paid for in advance. and it would mean a little jigging about with the time table.

I think more people come to these shows for autographs than they do photos so I imagine cancelling signing sessions would be even less well received.

Also, from a logistical point of view, I imagine he will get through far more autographs than he would photos, ultimatley meaning more pleased punters. Cancelling photos is not a good thing but the lesser of two evils, and certainly better than him not appearing at all.

Ok - so how long will Stewart actually be at the show now then?

I don't even care any more... I won't even get to see him now.

I got a photo with Stewart at a Collectormania back in 2010 so didn't need a photo with him at the last DST London or this one. Still, I'm sympathetic to those who wanted a photo this time and I would be as disappointed if I were in their shoes.

That said, with all due respect, some of us still do care. I want to get a couple of autos from him this year so it is important to me to know if his time over any of the 3 days will be limited. From your comment I assume you're not getting any autographs either?

Ok - so how long will Stewart actually be at the show now then?

I'd assume autographs are still on, as they haven't mentioned that being cancelled. Also the privileged who are prepared to pay hundreds of pounds instead of the price single or double photo shoot with Patrick Stewart will still get the photo opportunity. I'd also presume he's also going to be at the opening ceremony.

I imagine the bridge photo shoots with Patrick haven't been cancelled, and made the only alternative option available, because there's a considerable amount of money there from fans who are eager enough to pay that to get a photo with him.

It sounds like he will be participating in everything else but if he's had to do this as to not avoid cancelling I for one am seriously concerned he will be arriving late/ducking out early on particular days. I only go to these things with a few bits to do/pick up so only ever go for one day - it would be helpful if the organisers could clarify if he will be there for the duration each day (although the announcement would lead me to believe he won't be).

Thanks. I've got an early bird ticket so will get there early and rush to her area to get my number (probably along with hundreds of others!)

I got one of the stall holders that I know to get me a VQ ticket for Carrie before the doors opened, I got number 110 and ended up seeing her at 3:30pm!!

Not only were a lot of tickets exchanging hands before doors opened, but there seemed to be hundreds of gold pass holders, so her queue numbers hardly seemed to move all day. It'll probably be worse at the winter show as she's only doing the one day.

This is what I was referring to in my other post above on this topic.

Strange... I queued up from 7am, got in at about 9:10, got a VT for Carrie that was 127 or something like that, and met her about 1:30pm.

    Given Tolkeinerd's experience, how'd I manage that???

  4. Yes it's very unprincipled and selfish of him but he has done it 4 times in the last 2 years.2 years ago summer LFCC this one and 2 US events. He clearly has no regard for fans and for less work he would have made nearly as much money.I will only forgive him if he comes to Winter LFCC instead.

On the one hand I would hope that the celebs such as these would understand the disappointment this would cause A LOT of fans, on the other I can't resent people prioritising earning a living. No disrespect to Mr Frakes but he's not Johnny Depp. If he's had a good offer I would expect him to take it.

Still, I have met Frakes once (2 years ago) but that was after at least three years of waiting and 2 cancellations. Sadly he does seem to be a name you have to worry about cancelling.

  5. Would love to get her but the price is far too high. Should be no more than £25

    Says who?

Not to get into a debate about prices, as Showmasters are never overly keen, but I imagine any guest's current price means they either attend or they don't and I'm sure we'd all rather they get every decent guest they can.

I wish I'd gotten Carrie at £25 all those years ago when I wasn't into auto shows and walked straight past her. But hey ho, even though I wish she cost less now, I was happy to get two autos from her at LFCC even at £60.

It is amazing that Showmasters have managed to get her back again so soon after so many years of not seeing her. Great for those who didn't go to LFCC and for those who did but missed her because of how busy she was at a more busy than usual show. She was a real good sport and certainly made the experience feel 'worth' the money, at least to me anyway.

  6. I woud REALLY REALLY REALLY love to meet George Lazenby at a Showmasters event. Why they don't make use of the services of one of the actual JAMES BOND(!) actors more often is quite beyond me. I may have only done one Bond film, but you know, its only regarded as one of the best in the series. One of my most wanted guests for sure.

  7. Me and my partner met him last year at LFCC so we don't need to see him again but I will say that he was a phenomenal guest who quite clearly enjoys meeting his fans and is not just there for the money.

He stood up the who while, put up the pictures on the wall behind him that people had drawn for him, and made the effort to greet every single person and gave handshakes and hugs for all who wanted one. Also, his friend/rep who he brought with him was the best 'handler' I've ever seen at a Showmasters event.

You met this guy first, he greeted you, almost like you were there to meet him(!) exchanged a few pleasant words, and then he passed the items along to Reedus in such a way it didn't at all feel like the usual conveyor belt. In fact the whole appraoch of this guy regulated the flow of the signing session and it allowed fans to have a bit more time with Reedus because the manager kept the next waiting fan occupied.

If only every celeb and their management were this fan friendly. He's a hard guest to top. Every organiser who books Reedus has done a great thing for their show.

And if anyone reading this is ever in two minds as to whether or not to meet Reedus at some future show, just DO IT, you won't be disappointed.

  8. Very sad to read this today. We've lost one of the most iconic characters of the James Bond series. He was VERY good with fans too. I debated whether to see him at Collectormania 18 back in 2012 as I'd already overspent but I'm so glad I did finally meet him.

  9. Forgive the totally noob question, but if you're getting there at 9am or whatever and waiting until 7pm, and with all the mad fans and dealers itching to get to the front - what do you do when you need the loo?!?

  10. By way of example, for a 3-day event, including panels, signings and photoshoots; Sigourney's going rate is about £60,200... That's before her expenses.

    £70 per auto x say 800 autos per day (Sat & Sun) = £112,000.

That doesn't include Friday, or photoshoots and I'm sure Showmasters could justifiably charge more for her. If you're numer is correct I don't see how it couldn't work even with expenses on top.

  11. I'm only speculating of course, but I would think the two main reasons she hasn't yet done a show yet in the U.K. would be:

Cost - Based on some of the costs for photoshoots / autos I have seen for Sigourney and putting on top of that costs to get her to the U.K, first class airfare, top hotel etc, it would be a pretty big outlay I would think to get her over to the U.K, although if anyone can I think Showmasters would be in the best position to do it.

Schedule - Sigourney is still working regularly and so it may be easier to schedule her in for a half day or one day appearance in the USA, but not so easy for us to take say 4 days out of her schedule to come to the UK with the impact that would have in terms of jet lag etc

With the size of London Film and Comic Con though, it wouldn't surprise me if she is now becoming a realistic target but I think a 3 figure auto and photo cost is going to be the case.

What is the going rate for Sigourney photoshoots/autos at events in the states?

As you say, I'm sure it would be a large outlay for Showmasters but I also think she is one of those guests people would go that extra mile for. I'd rather not pay 3 figures, but I would do it because it's Sigourney Weaver! To many sci-fi fans she is guest that could never be topped, EVER.

As for her schedule, I'm glad she's still in work, but for the right amount of money I'm sure Showmasters could grab her for 3-4 days. Well I hope so anyway! The pictures above really do give me a glimmer of hope it might happen one day in the not too distant future.

  12. I mainly go to the shows for aliens guests so for me this would be amazing. I'd happily pay whatever to meet Sigourney, same with Bill Paxton if not more so.

I'm sure showmasters have tried in the past but maybe things weren't finalised due to schedule, fees, etc. I'm optimistic Sigourney will be over here sometime in the future, maybe for aliens 30th year anniversary if not alien 35th!

This year is the 35th Anniversary of Alien (2 months ago!)

I mainly go for Alien guests too. Was gutted when Yaphet Kotto cancelled on Autographica in 2012 and I missed him the first time he was over because I wasn't doing these shows. I hear Harry Dean Stanton doesn't like to fly and Ian Holm is not getting any younger.

Sometimes I read this threads and just think "whatever" because, you know, Sean Connery ain't ever turning up no matter how much someone on an internet forum may like to see him, but with Weaver, she's big but nonetheless a realistic possibility. She would be epic and clearly she is up for it. TBH I'd appreciate any Alien series guests in future as I only have 10 so far.

For whatever reason I always thought Paxton wouldn't be up for this sort of thing, but seeing him at other conventions I think he'd be game!

I would love more actor from Alien 3 and Resurrection as well. I know the latter is especially reviled by many but I liked it and it has an excellent cast. Ron Perlman, Michael Wincott, Dan Hedaya anyone? I'd also like to see Tom Woodruff Jr. as he is the man in the suit.

    I would freak out!!

This is one of my favourite photos of all time, not sure what event it is from though -

It's happened before, please let it happen again!

    That is AMAZING.

  13. Arguably the Queen of sci-fi would no doubt be a massive draw for countless fans but I've been wondering why she hasn't done a Showmasters event in the UK. She is very passionate about the Alien films and the character Ripley all these (35!) years later and she is familiar with the convention circuit in the US. She knows what signing events and guest talks involve and I reckon she's clearly up for it. So what's holding someone like her back from attending a UK event?

If it's simply her fee, with all the talk of Showmasters looking at bigger and bigger guests, I for one would be happy to pay for Weaver.

I recntly watched an Aliens Reunion event on youtube and it was amazing that they were nearly all there. Bill Paxton seems VERY ethusiastic about his role in Aliens and has done signing events now - could be be in with a good shout of someone like him. Or Ian Holm who was touted as a possibility a few years back when SM asked if people would be willing to pay x amount for certain guests?

  14. The only people I see effected by this in a negative way is the people that turn up, want to meet the Stan Lee sized guest and then go home. The fact is, LFCC is now big enough that most people won't get to see the biggest guests. My thoughts are just that priority should be given to the people that go to the most SM events and do the most while they are there.

I'm going to be blunt here, but I do not like your suggestion based upon the above.

I have met maybe 30-40 guests in my 6 years of going to Showmasters events. I would call myself far more discerning than many regarding who I spend my money on and autographs are my focus. I've done less than 20 photo shoots and I do not do paid talks.

I spend A LOT of disposable income on these events and the associated travel expenses/time off work etc. but in your model I would not be deserving of priority.

Instead I would be penalised for not going to as many events, because there are no guests I want to see, and penalised again for not paying for activities that do not interest me.

If an attendee just wants to see one guest, and that is quite literally it, then they will get as much enjoyment from the convention as someone else there to do more.

Before LFCC this weekend (where I met 7 guests) the most guests I had previously met at any one show was 4. With my usual number being 2-3. And yes I have just met one guest and gone home. And yes they were big ones. Ursula Andress and Patrick Stewart spring to mind.

I don't pad my convention experiences for the sake of it.

I have no interest in 20+ photoshoots per event with guests I've barely heard of. I don't collect autographs of 3rd Stormtrooper from the left or miscellaneous Ewok. I don't go to every event. I go for who I want and usually they're the bigger names. But you imply there is something wrong with that. Should I just spend more of my money on things I don't want to be deserving of priority?

  15.

As I Gold ticket holder I was appalled at the Gold Room, worse then a train station toilet. Also having to queue for autos and photos as not acceptable. It has seriously damaged my faith in the Pass and will have to seriously think about whether to purchase it again. Too many passes sold, exclusivity disappeared.

Did the lost child get found?

In 6 years of going to these shows I have never made use of a gold pass and I have never missed a guest I wanted.

I don't understand the gold passes at all...

It's not all about "not missing guests".

I've gotten several gold passes in the past just because i don't like to queue for a long time. It meant i could just walk up around 8:50 and get in first, and i didn't have to wait to see guests. It's a convenience...well, it used to be anyway...with the amount they sold this year, all that benefit kinda dissappeared

I understand the convenience aspect, I guess I just think that when I'm at a show the day is a 'write-off' anyway (i.e that's my day accounted for). Is the additional time I save worth the additional money?

I think it's a lot of good money that could be better spent on literally anything else, all by having a bit of patience.
