  1. Thanks for an amazing show, Jason.

Also, thank you for being willing to test the waters with the more expensive guests. I don't think I will ever not smile when I think of William Shatner now, because it was such an amazing experience to meet him. I've been grinning like a loon from ear to ear since Saturday morning.

I can't wait until next year. LFCC is my favourite SM event and unless something drastic happens, I'll always be there. Absolutely love it, such a fantastic day out!

  2. It will depend on the guests. I've had to cut back on cons because my budget isn't what is used to be, and November is a horrible time to travel. I went last year and the show was fantastic but getting there and back was awful. I was so wet and cold.

I'll make the effort, though, if there are any people I want to see going. I do love London based events and will support them when I can.

  3. I can't believe how smoothly Saturday went in terms of entry and collecting the VTs. A couple of people tried to run toward the guest VT lines but Too Tall only had to raise his voice slightly and they stopped.

Thanks, Too Tall, for keeping order! Makes the event so much less stressful when people aren't running around everywhere.

  4. I went to get Edi's autograph for my sister who was not able to make the event on the sunday and the guy who I paid and got the photo from wrote her name on the back of the ticket in clear, bold letters, I went over to Edi who had not had a customer for a good five minutes or more (I was stood near the signing area on my phone so saw that this was the case) and he had his back turned reading something. The assistant gave him a nudge and he grunted and turned around and went into signing mode without even looking up, first of all he spelt my sister's name completely wrong and I had to go and get another photo - no problem with that as I wasn't in a rush or anything and as he was signing for the second attempt the assistant double checked the spelling and said that it was correct. As he was handing it back to me I explained that the autograph was for my sister who was a huge fan and although I appreciated there was no posed photos I decided to ask if he would mind whether I took a photo of him holding the autograph for her as it would make it that much more special, before he could talk the assistant practically shouted a NO! and I was left with no uncertainty that this was my time to leave despite the (lack of) queue behind me.

Now I can fully appreciate that actors and actresses get cameras shoved in their face all the time and they must get annoyed at times - even at these events you get people standing a few yards back and taking pictures of guests whilst signing so I thought it would only be polite in this case to ask for permission from the guest himself due to the autograph not being for myself but he wasn't even given chance to speak.

Finally to make the whole experience a complete shambles I looked at the autograph whilst walking away only to discover that he had spelt my sister's name wrong AGAIN!! - and this time it had been double checked by the assistant too, I mean I know the bloke has quite an exotic name himself but really, is Nicola a rare name?!! Is there any reason that it should have first been spelt Ncol and then on the second attempt (which I ended up with) Nicoli?

I suppose I should have gone back for a third attempt but to be honest the underwhelming attitude of both guest and assistant just made me think otherwise. Just glad I wasn't the one who was a big fan and hoping for nice memory of the meeting - I had to be diplomatic with my sister as well when I handed over the autograph that she had spent good money on only to discover it wasn't even made out correctly to her - from now on whenever she is watching the films I will be cheering a bit louder when his character meets his grisly end!

That's absolutely awful! I'm sorry you had such a bad experience with a guest...I don't think I've heard of many that have been worse than that.

One has to wonder why Edi bothered agreeing to go if he's that agitated by cameras. It's a con. Of course there are going to be people taking photos everywhere...if he's that annoyed by the possibilitiy of getting snapped, maybe the convention enviroment isn't for him.

Even William Shatner was allowing people to take candid photos in line as long as they weren't setting off flashes right in his face, and he was no doubt the busiest guest during the weekend. If someone of his standing can be so gracious, it's a pity that others can't follow a similar example.

  5. We got Bill's auto on Saturday. Was not too sure about the queueing arrangement though, all that ziggy-zaggy yellow lined floor tape. Felt too much like being in a bank...(celebrity number four please!) ^_^

A good experience for us marred by only one thing. As we approached Bill's signing desk we could see that he was indeed spending a few vital seconds interacting with his fans a fair bit. "GREAT!" thinks us! And then, and I am not joking, the female fan in front of us turned into the mad fan from loony land. She just would not stop talking and would not move! All the time, the items to bve signed passing in front of him (including ours).

Dear lord she just would not stop...how great it was to meet him, how much she loved his work, how much her mother loved him and his work, how sorry her mother was because she had wanted to come over from Germany to meet him but that she had been unwell so had not been able to, how grateful she was to have finally met him, how great he was....it was endless!

Of course, by this time...not just his security or the SM event staff were trying to fend her off...but even The Man himself is trying to gently coax her away with "yes, thank you very much, yes good bye, thank you, good bye...thank you, good bye"

Still, as a pro, WS looked up and smiled at us and thanked me when I said hello and told him that I'd enjoyed his SHATNER'S RAW NERVE interview show.

Much better than at MK, even with the...shall we say...slightly over enthused fan.

Someone else in another thread said they had someone in front of them in a line for a different guest who just wouldn't stop talking.

Have to wonder if it's the same woman.

  6. I waited till Sunday to see him for autographs when I knew things would be quieter. I didn't have the nerve to say anything to him beyond, "Hi!" in the photshoot and "Thank you," when I got my autos, but he made eye contact and said, "Thank you," to me when handing back my autos. One was on a Kirk photo, natch, but I also picked a Denny Crane one and was sure he reacted slightly when he saw it in a gosh-a-change-from-Kirk-stuff kind of way but maybe that was just me. ;) The guy after me managed to exchange a few sentences with him, so he was definitely open to conversation.

The talk was very interesting (to use one of his favourite words). Lots of different topics, as stated elsewhere in this thread, which was refreshing. He has a rep for having an ego, and he definitely showed a sense of self-worth, but he was surprisingly humble too and made references both at the beginning and end of the talk that he hoped he wouldn't be or hadn't been a disappointment, as if he were feeling very conscious of the fact that it was a paid talk.

He talked a lot about upcoming projects and came out with detailed answers to all questions. I loved the bit where someone asked him to do a "KHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAN!" and he laughed and said, "Oh, no - can't I do a 'Denny Crane'?", after which he did the softest, gentlest, "Khaaaaaaaaan... where are you, Khaaan?" Heeee.

All in all, well worth the money I paid, methinks. It was a pleasure to see him.

Aw, he seems really lovely! It does seem like he has mellowed out a lot over the last couple of years. It would be really nice to have him back again, though given his age maybe not likely. Guess we'll see.

  7. Twilight Zone he talked about how a tiny budget and bad effects hasnt hindered the memory and fame of the show and his 20,000ft episode.

Boston Legal ws how he got the job and how he didnt want another series lead but it worked out ok in the end and he loved it.

    Thanks, Beatrix!

  8. Yeah and after that everyone asked great, varied questions. We got trek, boston legal, twilight zone, albums, new shows, personal life. Everything!

What did he say about the Twilight Zone and Boston Legal? I'm really disappointed I couldn't make the talk, it sounds awesome. Glad everyone who went enjoyed it!

  9. Didn't see Shatner, but my dad went in this afternoon while there was no que, and my sisters said he was in there chatting to him for ages cos no one else was going in. =) I don't think I've ever seen my dad so happy!

Ack, SO JEALOUS. I thought about hanging around until it was an open queue in case it meant longer time with him...but I'm still really happy with my own experience. I probably wouldn't have had the nerves to have a proper conversation, anyway...I barely get starstruck anymore but I was shaking while I was waiting in line to meet him and grinning like an idiot for the rest of the day (and today, come to that).

  10.

Then I went down to the signing area, was deciding who to get first, when I felt someone behind me trying to push me out of the way, turned around and it was JCB giving me a filthy look and pushing past without saying anything to me, but barking at people in her way to move..and as far as I could see, there was no guest with her so she had no reason to push people out of the way like that!

I've been attending SM cons since 2006 and I've never had an encounter with the infamous JCB. I know she's responsible for helping SM to get a lot of the bigger names over here but she really shouldn't be allowed to behave like that. If she's really as bad as I've read about, it's totally appalling and inexcusable.

  11. Who did you enjoy meeting the most?

Everyone I saw was so lovely, but I have to say it was William Shatner really surprised me. He was so much cooler than I was expecting.

Some really great guests this year. Possibly my favourite time at any SM event I've been to.

  12. He talked about his current work with some shows where he was interviewing the other Star Trek captains. He also talked about Star Trek V, how his idea (story) didn't come across properly like it shud of

Thanks, Trekkiefan. I'm sorry I had to miss it, sounds like it was an interesting talk. Was there any kind of Q&A with the audience?

Not much due to the fact that Bill always has alot to say on stuff, about 6-7 questions where asked

    Thanks.

From watching vids on YouTube he does seem to really know how to work a crowd. It would be nice to think Showmasters might get him back again in the future, though he's not getting any younger so I'm just glad I got to meet him at all. :)

  14. I know the con isn't over yet but I wanted to thank the Saturday crew for being so awesome. Any time I needed help, they did their best and everyone I came across was really approachable and friendly. I can't imagine how hard you guys work, so a massive thank you for keeping everything together.

  15. I was supposed to attend both days, but due to an unexpected personal problem I had to cancel Sunday.

Saturday was great, though. Apart from the lack of anywhere to sit (I really don't like sitting on a cold, hard and dirty floor...and I feel for anyone with health problems). The lack of seating is complained about EVERY year and nothing's ever done about it. Was there even a "chill zone" this year? If so, I couldn't find it...it's still far from good enough, though. Surely it wouldn't be THAT hard to set up a couple of seating areas with some plastic chairs or something? Considering this is the most complained about aspect of the con each year, it's annoying nothing is ever really done about it.

    But anyway.

I met everyone I wanted autographs from. Aidan Turner arriving so late wasn't ideal but he was really nice and I got long enough with him. To make up for it, Shatner arrived much earlier than expected so that was a great surprise. I thought the Being Human cast were fantastic, and Katee Sackhoff was really fun. Shatner was a pleasant surprsing...he was engaging with fans far more than I was expecting, though I was in one of the early batches so I can't say what it was like during the afternoon. His queue was very controlled - thought it would be chaos getting to him but everything was really well managed, and props to Shatner for letting people take candid photos until they reached the second row.

All in all a good day. Very disappointing I can't attend today and have to miss Shatner's talk, but sometimes through nobody's fault these things just happen, unfortunately.

  16. The Being Human trio were absolutely adorable. I met them in the morning and got a few words, handshakes and personalisations from each of them. Aidan Turner was very late but he was a sweetheart when I met him not long after he started signing. It sounds like they were much busier later, though.

Katee was lovely - she comes across as very Starbuck in real life, though looks quite different with the red hair. I was telling her I'm working through Battlestar on DVD and am halfway through season three and she was very keen for me to see the finale.

Shatner was way better than I was expecting. He was smiling, laughing, seemed to say a few words to each person (that I saw) and was doing the knuckle knock if you wanted one. After all the horror stories, I wasn't expecting him to even look up but he and his assistants were, I thought, professional and even nice. It was clear he was already exhausted (probably jet lagged) but I'm so glad I got to meet him.

  17. Ah yes the elusive sleep. It never happnes for me when I am going somewhere the next day and I'm planning on getting up at a certain time. Fears of oversleeping/the alarm not going off etc. Of course sleep is never an issue when it's only work the next day :D .

Same! I've had dreams about my alarm failing me and everything going wrong. I expect I'll just go to bed and spend a couple of hours tossing and turning. Will be very surprised if I get actual, proper sleep at all.
