  1. I had a fantastic weekend - I like to be busy, and all the crew I was teamed with were working incredibly hard to keep everything running as smoothly as possible, so hats off to everyone! Looking forward to next weekend, and of course the next LFCC. :D

    hiii train friend :) lol

I might have too volunteer too crew next year! Im an upstanding chap who can handle the pressure! Is there much time though too enjoy the con when your crewing or is that it?

It depends. If you do full days.. not so much you are allowed time to go to two things e.g an autograph and a photoshoot if it's anymore you're advised to do a half day so you can do it all Then spend a couple of hours either before or after to enjoy it.

  2. One thing I think should be looked into for the next event is how people's bags etc are handled at the photoshoots. We have no option other than to leave it there, often with very expensive camera equipment etc in and all the other autographs etc we've picked up.

Leaving it on a table open to the hall so anyone can pick it up is a concern. Maybe make it a requirement that you have to show your photo ticket stub before being allowed to take a bag. No perfect but something at least and some of the girls supposed to be watching the bag table weren't always focussed on doing that at times.

It has been mentioned elsewhere but this was the only real concern I had and think it's something that does need looking into.

I've done bags a few times before, i've never come across someone having their bag taken/stolen by anyone else.

  3. Becoming part of the SM Crew is great, you really feel like a part of the family and that you are giving something back. No job is ever boring, at least not from my experience its always fast paced and you get swept away in the moment. I'd say my favorite job has been working on the talk areas despite all the madness but there are plenty of other jobs that you'll get to try from the Info desk to guest assistant. How many people can say they spent there day guarding the Batmobile? I find I'm never short of a story or two. SM's always like to mix it up for you so you get to try different areas and jobs. By the time the day comes to an end you are exhausted but you're wondering where the time went and more importantly how many weeks until the next show!

This whole post is made of win. So much more succinct than mine. I was gushing way too much!

    1. No job is ever boring - So damn true. Even if you're doing a more "mundane" task like VTs, you get to chat to people, meet people, answer questions... it's all about giving back.

    2. A bit I didn't cover but this is completely true! It took me a while to feel like part of the family. Not because they're not great, but because it's a very large, very extended family. This last weekend was my fifth (?) event and I really did feel like one of the family this time, as I did at LFCC and at MK. So.... three events until you don't feel like an outsider? But it really is a family environment.

    3. Muffin, I didn't do Batmobile duty, but I did see the people sat next to Tumbler. That was possibly one of the stranger jobs that I've seen!!

    4. The story bit is certainly true. Wait until people ask you what you were doing this weekend and you can honestly tell them that you served drinks for the first man to walk in space, or Darth Vader took the mickey out of your laugh!

    5. Just over two and I can't wait! I was honestly checking my inbox every day this summer to see when the next crew applications were coming out!

babysitting the bat mobile ftw. i did that too!! LOL i clocked up around 3 hours of that haha

  4. I have just sent out an email to everyone to tell them which hotel they are in.

If you don't get this by 3pm, please let you know here. I will need your REAL name.

i didn't get it, i think you could of sent it to my blackberry address which i no longer have. I've emailed twice asking it to be changed. My name is Amy Boon.

  5. not got mine, and i'm normally one of the first. I've changed email addresses and telephone numbers so i sent an email the other day asking to change my details as i got rid of my blackberry so i think it may of gotten sent to my old email address.

just managed to reload my emails back on to my blackberry before i send it away.

    so i have the info.

  6. How is everyone getting from the hotel to the venue? I may get lost, i have 0 co-ordination

Last year SM got the coaches to pick crew up/take back to hotel, don't know if it's happening this time?

yeah, that's why i'm a little confussed. Nothing has been mentioned this time. I'm assuming that was because the hotel was miles and miles away.

Google maps is telling me it's around an hour long walk away

  7. It still feels like it should be January. I cannot believe that i am already facing the end of my first year of university. It feels like yesterday i was packing up all my stuff and moving in to my new house. I don't like it. I hope these next 2 years don't go by as fast.

    :D

  8. I know in the center there's an Ask i think and maybe a Frankie and Benny's cant remember though sorry

    that's the xscape centre

I drive pass the stadium daily and the only places to eat there (apart from the stadium) are McDonalds, KFC, Asda, a gym and Ikea.

I keep hearing about a pizza hut there but i have never seen one

Hmmm I've never been to an Ask but just had a look at their menu and it looks good, a lot like a pizza express.

Ask is really good. you should sign up to their mailing list. They email you weekly offers for 2 for 1 and 2nd meal for £1 ect.

  9. Late rooms had a really good deal the other day for the Raddison? i think it was instead of £120 odd for the twin/double room it was only 50. I don't know if it's still available or how far it is from the stadium.

  10. don't suppose you need any more people to crew the monday? when we applied we weren't sure if we had to be at uni on the monday or not and we've just been told we finnish on the 24th may and also with trains not running from MK to Euston we can't get home until the monday anyways so we will be about.

Normally Monday is a quiet day for the show, and if you weren't given Monday they will be full at this point.

    Kip

i didn't ask for monday as i was unsure if i was able to do it at the time.
