  1. Definitely a nice idea!

Outsiders was the first Brat Pack movie I saw in the 80s and I'm glad that it's finally been released to dvd/blu ray. It seemed like it would never happen. I think I even have the book somewhere

Loved that C Thomas Howell popped up in Spiderman recently too

  2. Out of interest, how many of these artists have worked on The Dandy's sister title The Beano?

    Henry Davis

Hunt Emerson http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hunt_Emerson "The Beano. At the moment he is drawing Ratz for The Beano, a strip about mean rats in a sewer. In 2002-2007, he drew Little Plum for that comic. In March 2009, after great work on both of the strips, he was picked as the artist for The Beano's revival of Fred's Bed. However, this version was viewed weird-looking by some people, and it has to be said the strip lost some of its humour and originality. This could be the reason why he left the strip in November, leaving Tom Paterson to become the artist."

Laura Howell http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Laura_Howell "She is the first female artist in the history of The Beano comic, and responsible for "Johnny Bean from Happy Bunny Green", "Les Pretend" and Beano Manga.[1] She also drew Billy the Cat in the Special 70 Years Beano, and two Minnie the Minx strips in the same comic."

Gary Northfield http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gary_Northfield "British comic artist and writer, most famous for his comic character, Derek the Sheep published in DC Thomson's The Beano and BeanoMAX"

Nigel Parkinson http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nigel_Parkinson "In 2000 Parkinson commenced work on Dennis the Menace and has since alternated his interpretation of the character with other artists"

    Lew Stringer http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lew_Stringer "

He began freelancing for The Beano in 2007, drawing a Fred's Bed story for the Christmas issue and a one-off Ivy the Terrible strip for an issue in 2008. In October 2008 Stringer became the artist on a new strip, Super School which is about five superhero children and their non-superpowered teacher. He started drawing for The Dandy after its revamp in October 2010, providing the illustrations for Postman Prat and Kid Cops and writing and drawing The Dark Newt.

He currently draws Rasher for The Beano's Funsize Funnies."

  3. I use laterooms for colleagues at work and unless they have changed their policy, you can cancel up to 48 hours (2 days) before your booking. With this much notice you should be ok

I used that too! but I am calling yet there seems to be no response. do you have their email or something?

With your email or booking reference number this should give you all the detail you need.

"Can I cancel or amend my booking?

    Published 30/11/2011 11.05 AM | Updated 01/06/2012 01.10 PM

Yep, as long as you make any cancellations or changes in line with the hotel's policy you will not be charged a penny. The cancellation policy can be found on both the hotel details page and your booking confirmation. Cancellation policies can vary, so please make sure you check the details when booking. If you want to change your booking you can either do it online via

My Account or, if you don't have an account, via the My Booking on our homepage. Alternatively, call our customer service line on 0844 774 2002".

  4. There is a Wetherspoons, Frankie & Bennys, Burger King and Boots/WHSmiths all providing food/snacks at the Airport.

You don't have to take the car, you can jump on the hoppa bus that goes every 30 mins from the front of the Hilton (on the hour and 30mins past the hour) for free. This takes you to the railway station. Go up the escalators and turn a left and there's another free bit of travel on a monorail to the airport. Voila! I'm disabled and I'm pretty sure the whole trip is 10mins

If you have legs you can walk it to through the NEC. No car moving required at all.

Admittedly it was about 3 conventions before I found that out at the Hilton ;)

There's also a subway at the railway station (from the hoppa bus arrival up the escalator and turn right). If you do want to move the car or club together for taxis, there's a Toby Carvery a short drive away.

Also possible to order pizzas to the hotel - I've seen it done.

  5. Not so sure about Birmingham yet, we like the Radisson, they were very good to us this time and we also have a good relationship with the Pheasant too just 5 mins walk away.We will see.

The Pheasant has a fabulous menu! I was so disappointed I couldn't eat all my mail course :o

I quite like the Hilton as I find it easier to walk around with toilets and breakfast being on one level as opposed to halfway on a staircase. Birmingham however can be an issue for some as the trains on a Sunday night are haphazard.

  6. Given that there were 3 Buffy/Angel/Whedon guests at Hallowhedon 4 - surely this is cause for celebration of an upscale if there are still intended to be 3 Whedon guest at HW5

But I guess for some people that will depend on which market/show the 3 Whedon guests are from

I mean I'd be up for some Cabin in the Woods guests providing it's not at the expense of Buffy/Angel/Firefly guests that people still want to see

Fran Kranz was excellent and Richard Jenkins had a fabulous performance. Of course I'd be happy to see Chris Hemsworth who did do some promotion for Thor when it was out in London - how up for a convention he would be is a different matter.

I would absolutely love to see Clark Gregg appear at a con, but I'm sure that's a stretch too.

There's a lot of supernatural type shows I've not dipped my toe into, so it would very much depend on the guests. It's going to take a while before I watch Vampire Diaries.

But I definitely would like to see more True Blood guests, Supernatural, Being Human as I was looking forward to Roadhouse 2 so was disappointed when that didn't happen.

  7. Isn't there a hotel at the event?

If you haven't already tried within the last few days, see this page with the Venue hotel booking code on for the Hilton Metropole where it's taking place http://autographica.co.uk/venue.htm

    Rates are Single £72 B&B

    Twin or Double £86.40 B&B

Otherwise the airport hotels mentioned above Etap/Ibis if still available are probably logicistically your next bet. There's a free monorail from the airport to the railway station, then at the railway station there's a Hilton hotel bus that stops through every 30 minutes.

  8. And as suggested elsewhere, please can the DJ group genres together so fans of each have a decent chance to partay before potentially leaving the floor.

Agreed :) There's nothing worse than swapping and changing genres after 1 or 2 tracks, it really causes an atmosphere pause

After seeing ep 4.10 The Used - Burning Down the House (although I did like the Talking Heads version)

This is the new s*** - Marilyn Manson

Don't Fear the Reaper - The Oysterband

  9. I went to get my Ke Huy Quan auto on Saturday just at the time the lights went out for the Dredd talk, it was surreal to be blasted into darkness. He was so sweet about it though :) Can't believe he's 40 !

Love the Goonies, it's the first film I ever bought on VHS (yes kids, there was something before dvds ......)

Have Corey Feldman, Sean Astin and Ke Huy Quan now thanks to Showmasters. Would love to add more to my collection :)

  10. Personally? I doubt any of these Guests will be very busy, apart from Zach and Alex - but thats just my opinion.

Goonies/Indiana Jones and Breakfast Club/Weird Science all very popular with people of a certain age ;)

Without knowing how many people will be looking for VTs for a particular guest it's difficult to say in advance.

It could be worth opting for the early entry to give your 2 hours advantage It will depend on when the photoshoots fall, but could be the difference between you feeling rushed and leaving earlier

  11. I know that more responses are going to be posted when they return tomorrow,

Crowding, photoshoots, lack of free buses are niggly things but not life threatening. Hopefully this will not happen again once the site is updated for next year, but I would be devastated if my late dad had been put in a similar position.

There is a response that has been started on a separate thread so that it's not lost in the middle of a post http://showmastersonline.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=76217
  12. Here are a few photos from the weekend! :D

If you are this person, please let me know, because you are awesome. :P :

I can't help you with who they were, but when I saw their outfit in the primeval photo queue it made me smile :)
  13. Shaun was not busy at all so surprised he would not do a photo? Perhaps its because Showmasters want to cash in on photoshoots.

It is often overlooked that some guests can't withstand too many flashes in a day or find it uncomfortable to move back and forth or up and down from their seating position to take photos at the desk. Some are comfortable to do photoshoots due to the limited time frame, with or without a fixed seating position. Bad backs, bones, muscles can affect everyone unfortunately.
  14. John Watson was an absolute gentleman on Saturday :)

Even though these legends are before my era of watching motorsport (the later 80s and 90s), I treated myself to Stirling Moss' auto at last year's event and spontaneously bought John's auto.

I only wish I could have afforded to get Tony's and Richard's too whilst they were there, but couldn't stretch my budget any further on top of my tv show budget from Friday.

  15. It's be a great excuse to get Henry Rollins too :)

I went to the Spoken Word once, he talked for 3 hours non-stop. The convention time would have to be increased :) He mentioned the filming of Devil's Tomb at that time too where he guested again with Ron Perlman.

Sons of Anarchy has had a few cult/scifi peeps in. Mitch Pileggi, Chad Lindberg but most of all I'd love to meet Peggy Bundy .... erm I mean Katey Sagal
