  1. I'd have to agree with the others here. I'm not in the least bit interested in Sanctuary and am not keen on merging two conventions simply because of actors being in both. The same reason I wouldn't want Law & Order to be combined with a Doctor Who convention based on the Freema connection. While I am not that keen on SG:U, I at least accept it is a show based on the Stargate world and so would understand guests coming from that, even if I didn't personally like it.

And with a movie, 3 live-action series and a cartoon to have guests from, I would have thought Stargate would be the one thing that wouldn't be short of potential guests.

Sanctuary has a lot more crossover with Stargate than Doctor Who and Law & Order though, there are loads of actors who have appeared in both Stargate and Sanctuary. I do get your point though, if I wasn't a Sanctuary fan I'd probably not be that happy either. But, for all we know it could be a one off for this event, a condition set by Amanda to bring along Robin if she attends.

As for mentioning the cartoon, Stargate Infinity, would you really be interested in meeting guests from that? I didn't watch much of it but from what I saw of it years ago, it was pretty awful. Though yes, even without guests from Infinity there are a load of possible guests for Stargate conventions. But as I just said it may be a condition on Amanda coming that it's part Sanctuary convention, a condition I'm happy to accept if it means finally meeting Amanda

  2. Yay booked as well!! Mega excited now!

Christoff - did you get a silver again? Cos I know you really enjoyed your photos and probably want to repeat that experience!

    (Jen)

    Yeah, loved them... lol

I bought standard this time. I'll just buy a photo shoot with Amanda when I'm there, probably won't bother with anyone else though, but it will depend on what other guests we get I suppose.

Have you booked your ticket yet? What have you gone for?

    Edit:

Yes Chris, you gone silver or have you gone back to standard??? What have you got Jenny? you gone back to gold???? i just couldn't justify it with having to pay full price for lissy so back to silver

Back to Standard this time, will save a bit of money as I doubt I'll buy many photo shoots.

hi tracy, yeah we went silvers cannot justify gold especially as im no good at those parties and if i spend that much i feel obliged to go!!

I should've read the rest of the thread before replying before I guess :D

  3. One thing I was wondering, if you get a personal item signed are you still allowed to take one of the prints the celebs have? I got my Dr Who book signed from Kate O Mara and also took one of the pictures too, I'm not sure she was too pleased with that as she looked a bit startled and began talking to her assistant, did I commit a faux paus????

Hey Your right, if you get your own item signed you are more than welcome to take a photo too so long as you dont try and get it signed :P

You are usually allowed to take a 10x8 if they're not running out. If I'm not getting one of them signed I often ask if it's okay to take one anyway. If they're right in front of a guest and not on a separate table this might be the best thing to do to avoid situations like this.

  4. Another problem was Armin Shimerman's queue. Some friends of mine arrived a couple of hours before me and went over to Armin's table to get some VTs but were told he was an open queue. By the time we got there later on he was now on a VT system (using Alex Kingston VTs).

I know this was because he was signing slowly and spending time chatting, but main cast Star Trek guests are usually popular so it'd be good if Showmasters assumed they'd need VTs and hand them out from the start. If they turn out to be less busy then the queue can always be opened to everyone.

In the case of my friends who got there early, they were at more of a disadvantage than people who got there later than them as they only found out they needed a VT hours after they had started being given out.

  5. At EMS there were flyers and posters for Chevron 7.8 which stated it is a Stargate and Sanctuary convention. Though I don't know if that's a one-off thing for when Amanda is here, or if it will continue past 7.8. It would've been nice for that to have been announced on the forum though. With this news though, this guest announcement now fits perfectly with the convention.

  6. While we're at it, does anyone have any contact information for the person who made the handmade River/Doctor journals? They were £35. If not, I'll see if they're around tomorrow :)

    Someone posted a link here:

I'm on my phone and that link doesn't seem to be working properly, it's the 8th post of that thread.

  7. hi there guys and gals, just got back from the show and where do i start ,firstly we were there pretty early and we were told to stand in a queue which we did the towards opening time we were told we were in the wrong queue so we were placed in amongst fellow queuers who werent very impressed with us and to say the least made us feel very uncomfortable ,then when we got into the event we headed for the area where we expected the big guest to be signing ,no crew member mentioned that we were in the wrong place and when we did ask staff they agreed that we were in the right place only after one of the mass that had stuck with us and others went for a wonder, that he came back a told us that all guest were seated and signing over the other side of the venue so from being about the 50th person threw the door i had vt number 302 for Dame Diana Rigg i wasnt amused. Also i thought the lighting could have been a bit better too, sorry to say a let down but heres hoping again that showmasters can learn from mistakes..... fingers crossed ,sorry for punctuation but i do try so points for effort x x

The entry problem was apparently caused by a massive misunderstanding with Earls Court staff and I can only apologize. I got hold of crew at the event and they confirmed this won't happen again tomorrow.

Sorry, it does look like you missed the announcement that the big guest area wasn't going to be used today. That was posted last night. I'm sorry to hear the crew member gave you wrong info when you asked. Maybe this wasn't mentioned in the general crew meeting and you asked someone from another area who unfortunately didn't know.

The lighting is a venue thing I'm afraid and not much Showmasters can do about it unless there were large areas where the lights were switched off or something like that.

Speaking of entry problems, I got there at about 10:40 I think and wanted to buy an early entry ticket so I didn't have to queue and get in after 11. An Earls Court woman on the door said I couldn't get one this late and had to queue up outside. I knew she was talking nonsense and found my way to the ticket booth and managed to get an early ticket, but non-regular event attendees would have just listened to her and wasted their time. The Earls Court staff really need to be a bit more in the loop of how things work in future.

  8. I thought it was an ok episode, had good and bad elements.

I really am getting tired of really stupid stuff in Doctor Who though. There has to be a bit of cheesiness occasionally or it'd not be Doctor Who, but why have stupid things like the cybermat with teeth. I was fine with it in the episode until they showed the teeth, that just made it ridiculous, and then with it jumping around attacking people, cringe-worthy to watch. It'd work well in something like Red Dwarf, but Doctor Who sometimes needs to take itself a bit more seriously.

  9. I've mentioned this in another thread and other people I know who met her thought the same.

I don't know about her being rude, she at least said "Thank you" to me when I said "Have a good weekend", but she ignored me completely before that, no reply to my hello and didn't even look up at me until after signing the autograph. I was very disappointed and it wasn't a great experience, but not my worst *cough* Shatner *cough*, but I didn't expect it with her at all :YAHOO:

She was apparently odd in the photo shoots too (I didn't have one myself though), just standing like a statue with her arms straight by her side, not moving, the photos do look a bit awkward too.

  10. I've just got back from EMS and personally I didn't enjoy this event as much as other Showmasters events. It wasn't bad, it just wasn't that great.

I think the venue layout was pretty bad and hope we stick to Earls Court 2 or Olympia for future London events. It wasn't that easy to find things, I often lost track of where certain dealers were.

There was a good range of talks but from the middle backwards (seating) it wasn't always easy to hear what was being said, in many cases it was actually impossible. The speakers really need to be louder and/or an extra speaker at the back (I think they were just at the front and middle?).

I only met a couple of guests, Jennifer Lien and Armin Shimerman. Jennifer was a bit of a disappointment really, she didn't seem like she wanted to be there and the most I got out of her at the autograph table was "Thank you" in a very quiet mousy voice. Armin was great though, very friendly and chatty.

As I said it wasn't a bad event but it was a little disappointing. The main problems which can hopefully be fixed in future are the venue and the talks being too quiet.

    What did everyone else think?

  11. Thanks, I don't urgently need to know the price, just good to know that it's possible to get an extra auto.

I suppose with her seeming to be a normal guest with no restrictions like RDA, photo shoots with her will also be available to Standard ticket holders? I should have asked before but I don't usually get photo shoots so didn't think to ask.

I suspect if there were going to be any restrictions for photo shoots then it would have been mentioned in the initial announcement.

    Just checking, thanks.

  12. Will extra autographs be available for Amanda or will we be limited to only one like we were with RDA?

For RDA we were informed about the limit right from the start, so I'd think it would have been mentioned if there were no extras. But I'll try to get this confirmed.

    Thanks :D

Mark has kindly confirmed that extra autographs will indeed be available for Amanda.

He is already in London for EMS, so he couldn't confirm the ticket price. But autograph tickets will go on sale along with the entry tickets.

  13. Will extra autographs be available for Amanda or will we be limited to only one like we were with RDA?

  14. I think it depends but generally I'd say I prefer them to be focused on one show (or franchise).

Chevron includes all Stargates but most Stargate fans like all three shows, or at least two of them so they work when combined.

The ones with the big mixes so far haven't really been for me though. I think Hallowhedon had some Firefly guests that I'd like to have met but I wasn't really interested in the other guests.

If I was attending the Return to Middle Earth I'd probably not be that happy about having Game of Thrones guests (I watch it but not really interested in meeting the actors from it).

Chevron 7.8 has had a Sanctuary guest announced which I find a bit odd, but as a big fan of Sanctuary I'm fine with it, though others may not be.
