  1. Colm Meaney does the very odd con; I met him at one last year in the States.

Avery Brooks is a wonderful guest. I've met him twice. His autograph lines take an eternity though because he puts a real effort into it being a moment for you; he'll shake your hand, chat with you. He's especially good with kids. This year I got him to sign a baseball for me and he chatted away while he was doing it - he even wrote 'Sisko' after his name. Great guy!!

  2. Since we've nothing else to really discuss, let's imagine that Collectormania was up and running during the 1940's and 50's.

What stars would you like to see?

I'll start the ball rolling -

Cary Grant, Jimmy Stewart, Gene Kelly, damn I could go on and on.

Let's say 3 guests each. Get dreaming!

  3. I think we can probably read into people's ages by their replies.

If you're over 30 and remember The Six Million Dollar Man when it first came on TV, then you've more than likely voted that you want it to be Lee Majors. For me as a child, he was up there with Captain Kirk and Batman as my heroes and having already met Bill Shatner and Adam West he would fulfill a long held wish.

  4. As much as I would love this, I really doubt it. He's doing a con in America in August that I'm going to and is only signing a limited number of autographs - all of which are sold out, dammit!! ;)

The thought of him sitting for hours on end signing autograph after autograph doen't seem to be his style.

    Still, miracles do happen.

  5. I gave my appreciation to the 2 people I met who deserved it. The rest of you should listen to what I and many others have to say - and probably many thousands who don't use this board - and accept that you could do better. You want my money, you have to provide a service. You failed, and you won't be getting any more of it!

As far as I understand it, Collectirmania (and LFCC) are there to give fans an opportunity to buy some great stuff from the dealers and get a chance to meet and get an autograph from some of their favourite stars. It does not mean that each star will be available for posed photos, personal messages, long chats, etc. You go up, say 'hi' , get your autograph and go. Why no more? Because there are hundreds, maybe thousands of others who are waiting for the same thing. I have flown over from Ireland for the last 2 Collectormania's and both LFCC's and both have been well worthwhile. It means getting up early in the morning, being there from maybe 7am to ensure that you get the autographs you want and being willling to wait around during the day to get all those you want. Yes, it can get crowded, yes, it can get frustrating but that's what you do. Also, SM have no control over the personality or mood of the guests - if they don't engage you, if they don't smile or chat, we can't blame anyone.

As far as I'm concerned, SM do a really good job. Believe me, I've been at a couple of really bad conventions that make C7 look like a precise military operation.

Some people come expecting things that SM just can't provide. Others come late in the day and expect to get all. SM provide a service but expect us to meet them half way. If you don't like that, if you feel you're being ripped off then the answer is simple - Don't come to it.

  7. Guess it's just me burning the midnight oil - Come to think of it, I gotta be up for 9am so better get to bed.

Sweet Dreams - that's what Linda Blair wrote on my Exorcist poster at the LFACC. Oh well - to sleep, perchance to dream (of who'll be announced on Thursday evening).

  8. I've got a signed album by Brian Wilson (Beach Boys) that's quite rare. I have a lovely Reba McIntire (US Country singer) but my Trek ones are my faves - Patrick Stewart, Bill Shatner, Kate Mulgrew and the really hard to get Avery Brooks - all got in person - All I need now is Scott Bakula (hint, hint, SM)

  9. The Shield is a great show - imagine Tony Soprano as a cop and you're in the right area. It's an adult show and all the better for it. It's easily one of the best US dramas in years but not comfortable viewing. Michael Chiklis is amazing but the whole cast are great. I've watched it on Region 1 DVD because it's on at awkward times on TV, season 3 is due out in February; can't wait!
