made worse by very poor, inconsistent, and in some cases non-existent communication from Showmasters.

I completely agree. Due to this I ended up carrying items expecting them to be signed and they weren't as the guests were a no-show. It would be better if someone pulls out from the show for there to be an announcement at least a day before their due to appear. So as to prevent overt disappointment and also save carrying items unnecessarily.

  2. Liam Garrigan was very nice and were the signs not up there and everywhere I'd have had a photo with him. He was very chatty about his work on 'Pillars of the Earth'. He was reminiscing quite a bit. Almost like having a cuppa tea and biscuits with someone whilst they tell their life story.

Mark Rolston was very chatty with everyone. He was one of the few willing to have a table photo with. The only downside is that I didn't have a proper camera to take a photo with, so I unfortunately passed on that. He talked to 3 of us at once before signing. Not factory line here. Very willing to interact with everyone.

Ming Na Wen, my only issue is the security with her. He said to stand back when I was having a conversation with her. I think he was somewhat feeling put out that I was conversing with her in a language other than English. Ming was nice, she was also accommodating about signing her name in Chinese characters.

Daniel Naporous was very intrigued by a Darth Vader book I brought for him to sign. It was a jokey self help book with lots of Star Wars quotes. But he commented as did the person next to him that it was more like a 'management style' book.

Lee Stringer was very enthusiastic talking about his work. Signed my DVD cover for nothing which I have to say was a surprise.

John Welsey Shipp and Barry Bostwick, again cuppa tea and biscuits with them. Barry Bostwick was surprised to see on my RHPS pamphlet I have Susan Saradon. So I relayed the story to him about how I managed to meet her by coincidence and have the item on my persona when I did so.

Harry Manfredini, I was pleased to see he brought some CD's with him. I was wanting to get one before the con, but couldn't find the OST to the first film at a reasonable price. Whilst he was signing my DVD cover he said to get the CD cover out of the packaging. He mentioned about the CD cover being 'busy' and was going to use a white pen. But then I gave him my gold one and all worked out fine.

There were other people I went for, but these are the only ones that I felt I had a 'meaningful' interaction with.

  3. One thing that needs to be brought up is that some VQ's weren't printed with the guest name. So for Val Kilmer it just had a letter of the alphabet on it with the words 'Saturday/Sunday' printed on the VQ ticket. I did ask a crew member to write down who the guest was on some of the VQ tickets that had no printed name. However later on the crew got a bit iffy about the name being 'handwritten' rather than 'printed'. Perhaps something to bear in mind going forwards.

  4. With Billy Dee Williams, I would have expected as a Gold pass holder to be able to get his autograph as long as I had a low enough VQ ticket. Personally speaking I got him a few years ago when he was a 'regular' guest. I did like where we were located so as to get to the autograph queues quicker,  but as said elsewhere the people giving out the VQ tickets should be doing it from the moment we reach the guests booth. Not telling us that we need to wait 5 minutes for the show to start when other guests are having VQ's dolled out immediately. The £10 guest voucher, I managed to use it. But ideally it should be that it can be used as part payment for any guest autograph. I can't help thinking that the gold pass is going up in price yearly but in terms of its actual value it seems to be going down year on year. I have been a gold pass holder for four years now. I can't say it's not gone unnoticed the things that gold pass holders used to get that have now been removed.

Just a small update at the moment, Guy Henry is amazing, that man was so down to earth and talking to everyone for ages, I hope Showmasters get him back soon as I would like to get a professional photo op with him

The man is a complete 'gentleman'. I met him at the theatre and he couldn't be more nicer if he tried. Willing to talk with you and likes signing Rogue One. Probably as he get to play the legend that was Peter Cushing. Everyone has a different perception of how the guests came accross to them. All I can say is that for me, I found the smaller guests to be more engaging. I said this previously but I will repeat it again, there should NOT be novices on the autograph tables. One of them when the gold pass people entered the autograph area wouldn't give out the VQ tickets saying we had to wait until 9am. Yet all the others were handing them out freely the moment gold pass holders got to the autograph area. Another one didn't know what she was doing at the table. She said to people that they had to pay first then go to the back of the queue. Which is the total opposite of how things usually run. If a novice does have to be doing these roles, then they should either be briefed fully or have someone with them more 'experienced'.

  6. Ted Rami was very nice and polite whilst signing my DVD covers. Lucy Davis was also very sweet. Disappointed to hear that she won't be in the sequel. Robert Englund, the man definately is there for the fans. A very fine gentleman. He was surprised at the book I gave him to sign. It was a book about Wes Craven. When Robert flicked through it he was talking to the people behind him, pointing things out from the book. Seemed like a journey down memory lane for him. No wonder he's so popular at events he attends, he knows how to make a person feel like they're the most important person in the room.

You know why don't you - I swapped my photo and the woman in front of me also swapped hers for a full face on robocop photo that was sitting at the desk he was at.

Staff said a trader had purchased these and were needed to be signed.

I'm not kidding here - there must of been about 40 - 60 photos all robocop and im guessing all from the 1st choose your photo table.

To be honest, this is the type of behaviour that should be barred from the event and prevents true fans from getting what they want. I heard that when Caroline Blakiston was last at an event a lot of her Star Wars pictures were supposedly kept under the table because of being purchased by dealers. Apparently she took them out, starting signing them for people in the queue that wanted them. Then informed the person who said that the pictures had been bought by dealers, that they'd simply have to go and print more.

    • In the first few minutes of the doors being open on Saturday, the girl sat at Rory McCann's payment table got very aggressive with people asking for VQTs. She started shouting at people saying it was her first time doing an event and wasn't sure whether she was allowed to give the VQTs out. Not sure why she had been left on her own if she wasn't sure on what she was doing, as the uncomfortable situation could have been avoided.

This I agree with. Either brief the staff better or don't put novices on the autograph desks. I had an awkward encounter with one guest due to the person on the desk not knowing how the autograph vouchers worked. Due to this, I felt that I couldn't speak to the guest properly and that I had to just walk off after getting my item signed.

I think the argument isn't that they shouldn't get what they pay for, but rather that as an event based around fans meeting the people who helped bring to life characters they love, maybe there should be priority placed on making the event as fan friendly as possible.

After all there is a finite number of autographs people can get through. If a dealer who may not even give a damn about the people and things that are getting signed get 30 autographs that means potentially 29 fans who would absolutely love the chance to get one auto aren't going to get anything. I'm sure it's something the actors don't love either.

Not that I'm saying dealers and that should be not allowed or anything. Just I can understand peoples frustration, and why autos should be limited to 5 across the board.

Exactly. Hit the nail on the head Blairy550. It's the amount of items and the fact the couldn't give a rats spam about who's behind them in the queue as long as their several million items are all signed.

  10. You've not understood what I've said and this conversation is now pointless. The issue with the dealers is the amount of items they are getting signed, especially when the guest is busy. It was even mentioned in another post that Christopher Eccleston got fed up signing for them at the show. If they want masses of stuff signed, fine. But just don't do it when the guest is busy with loads of people queuing up to meet a particular person.

Can't really understand why people are still complaining about the dealers. They also spend a great deal of money - and probably pay for some of the smaller guests on their own. If they didn't attend I'm sure prices would increase for everyone else. Sure, it's annoying to be stuck behind someone getting dozens of autographs, but I can't really see the problem if they paid for their turn and you're still getting your autograph?

The problem with the 'dealers' is that they're the ones who spoil things for real fans. Also when you're after several guests it doesn't help that one person is getting masses of stuff signed and holding up everyone else. Then you can't go and meet other guests because you're stuck in a queue due to dealers trying to 'rack' someone.

    - Miranda Richardson photo experience - seemed to me like she didn't want to be there at all - talk about miserable! As an actress she could at least pretend to enjoy meeting me

I was surprised she came along at all TBH. I have met her on several occasions and only once did she sign. It's known that she dislikes signing for anyone.

  12. lucykemp21, I agree about Jason Momoa. Yes, he signed quick which was good for getting the queues down. However there was the impression it was a bit of a 'factory line' to it. Him just signing without much thought as to what he was doing and the person he was signing for.

  13. Speaking of traders, can a 'blanket' cap of maximum 5 autos be put in place, unless the guest is quiet. There was a guy at the Ray park desk with about a million pictures he wanted signed so holding the queue up. The auto ticket does have 5 printed on it,  just that when you've lot of guests you want to meet, it doesn't help that one person is holding up the queue with millions of pictures wanting signing...

  14. Speaking of passes, Meatloaf had a sign saying Diamonds only. However I was told that at the end of the day those with VQ tickets got to see him. Can those that are in charge of the queue please ENSURE that the boards are correct. Otherwise those wanting to see particular guests end up going without. Also I thought that 5 items was the maximum any one person could have at at a time. I saw one person have loads of pictures signed.....

  15. Queen_Sindel, my issue with the prop shoot is that it wasn't clear what props were available for the Gold pass voucher. I ended up wasting it sitting in the Star Trek chair when I'd really not have. I had a similar issue last year, when I wanted to redeem the voucher only to be told that it wasn't valid for a particular prop. I think in all honesty the prop voucher is another one of those things that can be scrapped from the Gold Pass. If I were able, I'd buy you a drink to thank you for trying to resolve everyone's issues on here. :D

  16. mschmidt, put exactly right. The £10 vouchers should be either completely scrapped or allowed to be offset against higher priced guests. This has been mentioned by so many people, I don't see why it can't be implemented. The prop shoot wasn't clear either. I ended up having a prop shoot that I wasn't really interested in doing. I think the Gold Pass should be re-examined in the light of the comments made on here by people.

  17. Raylenth, some good points you've raised there. I echo what has been said previously about the vouchers in the Gold pass being used to offset against an autograph price or they have them start at £15 not £10. Most of the guests in attendance, the smaller ones seem to start at £15 anyhow. I can foresee a time when there will be no-one I'd want with the £10 voucher thus rendering the part of the Gold pass obsolete.
