[Outlander - getting in there before they get famous!]

So the new TV show, Outlander, is being filmed in Scotland at the moment. Judging by how the actors have been absolutely mobbed by fans at US cons already (the books are VERY popular) and the show hasn't even hit the screens yet, it might be nice to get booking these guys now!

[Con cold - who got one? Thank you inconsiderate people]

It's a week later so I'm fairly confident is saying that I seem to have escaped the con cold this time! Yay!

[What would you do differently next time.]

Cosplay is fun...you don't even need a group. Just find a genre you like and start with a basic silhouette*...building up your outfit each time.

 

*I use rule of thumb. If you were in a hurry and you saw yourself from a distance if you'd be fooled then that'll do.

 

 

I like that rule!

There are so many. I still consider myself so lucky that I got to meet Corey Haim before he died. I was obsessed with him all through my teenage years and meeting him in person was just . . . wow.

[Saturday vs Sunday]

As for the church theory (although I suspect it was tongue-in-cheek) the percentage of the population who regularly go to church on a Sunday is about 10% and I suspect a large proportion of that is elderly people so really don't think that would affect con attendance.

My daughter is 15 and she won't miss church for anything other than a family holiday or a Con :) You're right though, I'm sure that percentage is VERY small.

 

I think the most common reason is that people have to get up for work on Monday morning and don't want to be getting home late on Sunday after an exhausting day.

Yup, we were devastated as well at missing him. It was a once in a lifetime chance . . . with special meaning for us as our teenage daughter is named Storm, after the X-Men character, and we had a painting of the character for him to sign for her. At the end of the day though his health is far more important than our autographs.

Hi everyone :)

 

My name is Lisa. I'm a 37 year old South African who lives on the Cambridgeshire/Suffolk border with my partner (who is an even bigger geek than me!) and our 16 year old daughter who is named . . . Storm . . . (yup, that's really how deep the geek runs in our family!). We've been going to the MK and Manchester Cons for a few years now but this year was our first visit to LFCC and we loved it (after adjusting to the massive crowds) so I think we'll be going every year from now on.

 

I love all things sci-fi and fantasy (Vikings, Fringe, Eureka, GoT, True Blood, Firefly, Castle, Arrow, The Almighty Johnsons, Walking Dead, Hannibal, Warehouse 13, Grimm, The Following, X-Files, Under the Dome, Buffy and Angel) as well as 80's TV shows. We're a family of gamers too and have played World of Warcraft for about 8 years, as well as some newer MMO's. I'm a total bookworm as well, mostly horror but also some fantasy.

 

As far as hobbies go, we obviously collect autographs (pics and dvd box sets), but also movie replica weapons. My partner and daughter love Warhammer and my partner used to be heavily involved in LARP (we're looking into getting back into that). I desperately want to try cosplay at some of the cons but haven't quite worked up the guts to do it yet. I'm determined to do it one day though.

 

Lastly, our family is completed by our geeky pets . . . the cats, Buffy and Spike, hedgehog Oz, and our rats Thor, Loki, Murdock, Hannibal, Face, Raiden, Logan, Mary-Jane and Pepper Potts.

Get there earlier on the Saturday (we drive down and we left a bit late, whoops!)

 

Be a bit more organised (list of people who's autographs we want and photo session times etc)

 

Take many more photos that we did this year! So many cosplayers I wanted pics of but I felt like I'd be a pest if I asked them

 

Find the confidence to cosplay (have ideas but no idea where to start, need a cosplay group ideally i reckon)

 

Speak to people! This is the biggy! I'm rubbish with guests unless they are chatty themselves. Maybe make notes of things to talk about.

This wasn't my first Con, but it WAS my first time to the London one and it was awesome. I usually go to the smaller ones (MK etc) so this was a bit mind-blowing. We'll be back next year!

Jack Donnelly without a doubt.

 

We met him primarily because my teenage daughter has a massive crush on him, plus our whole family enjoys watching Atlantis. He was absolutely lovely! So bubbly and friendly and happy to chat. He told us a bit about the filming for Season 2 (out later this year, yay) and my other half managed to embarrass him a bit by telling him that the aforementioned daughter had seen one of his earlier (and slightly "lower quality" produced) shows. Something tells me that he'd like to forget that one! He was also more than happy to pose for a photo after signing a personalised autograph. My daughter had a photo shoot with him later in the day too and was very happy with that as well. He is truly an awesome guy and I really suggest meeting him if he's at any future events.

 

Aww he sounded brill, did he give any spoilers about his filming? I

No spoilers He said he couldn't confirm on Season 3 yet but did mention that he does a lot of his own stunts (as does Robert Emms) in Atlantis. Oh, and the location filming is in Morocco, the rest on sets in Wales. After chatting to them both I think they have good fun filming the show. :)

I saw these amazing works of art in the main hall this weekend. There were lots of poster-size pictures of cars from movies (Ghostbusters, A-Team, Back to the Future, Flintstones) with a brief quote related to the movie or TV show. I completely forgot to grab a card and google is not being very helpful

Yes, it was particularly grim-smelling in there today... Ergh...
