  1. I was just saying to someone the other day that it would be great if she was a guest at a con and then she appears! Not the first time that has happened either - are you spying on me, Showmasters? ;-)

But yeah! Kelly Hu! Martial Law (remember that?), the voice of Karai in the new Ninja Turtles show, 'scary gangster lady' in Arrow* and 'scary lady in desperate need of a manicure' in X-Men 2!* Can't wait to meet her! :-D

    * Some of these names I've made up myself and are not actual character names. Just so you know.

  2. Like the titles says, what's your best convention food?

I'm going to say sausage rolls - as sausage rolls are awesome in general and very portable, so you can either take a few to a convention yourself or pick one or more up at the convention as there are usually vendors that sell them there. I've never eaten a sausage roll that I didn't like (and I have eaten many) and they can be eaten hot or cold. They come in different sizes for different requirements - just want a snack? You can get mini sausage rolls. Want something more substantial? You can get big ones! So you see, sausage rolls are very versatile and can be adapted to suit their environment! In conclusion: sausage rolls are just sausagey, pastry wrapped awesomeness!

So what will you be chomping on when you next go to a convention?

    P.S. Yes, I am in a bit of a silly mood. ;-)

  3. That postcode thing sounds like it should be one of those 'find your address' things where you enter your postcode and then choose your house/flat number from the list... sounds like it isn't appearing correctly for some reason! I can't remember exactly from when I ordered my Diamond Passes (it's all such a blur! Hee hee!) but I *think* I may have had to do something like that.

  4. SirGeeksalot, you don't want a 'geeky' girl. Trust me. You'd find yourself constantly having to compete with the likes of Nathan Fillion or whoever she had a fan-girl crush on at that moment. Would you want that? True 'geeky' or 'nerdy' women are not interested in relationships. They don't fit into society's norms. They'll take an evening alone with a box-set of Firefly or Game Of Thrones any day over a date with you. They'd rather lock themselves away for a weekend with Kingdom of Hearts than take any interest in your heart.

Take this thread for example. How many women have posted in here? Have you had any contact you from here? I'm willing to bet not. I've read some of your posts and you sound like a very smart and funny guy. Those snotty girls you talk about in your post sound like idiots but don't let them put you off. Don't fall into the trap of thinking another geek will be your match.

Ha! I'd forgotten about this thread! :-)

It sounds like you think anyone considered 'geeky' is identical to the next person, like an army of Cybermen!

No, not had any contact as a result of posting on here but then that wasn't really my intention. I don't think another geek would be guaranteed to be my match of course but it would be nice to not have someone react with "oh my God - you like what?!" or similar, as I've had in the past so someone who at least had a similar interest would be less likely to do that. I'm not closed to someone not sharing that interest but there seems to be a fair amount of hatred out there towards stuff like that from non-geeky women (certainly from a lot I've met anyway).

Ok first serious question, in my haste to purchase the diamond pass it appears the only ones for sale at the moment are for Friday 17th and I've just bought it, this is fine as I can make the Friday but I'm a little confused by the e-ticket I also had to purchase for £2.50 - does this give me entry on the Friday or do I actually need to buy an entry ticket at £12 on top of this? Would really appreciate someone clarifying for me (I've been a fan of MJF since I was 12 years old - so basically 30 years lol and my excitement overtook properly seeing what I was doing, my bad!)

    Thanks in advance :-)

Diamon Pass does not cover entry. Diamond Pass activities are all over the weekend.

Does this mean I can use my diamond pass on the Saturday then as that was the day I originally planned to go and have already got an entry ticket for? (Sorry for being dim I've never done the diamond pass thing before)

My understanding is that the Diamond Pass is for all three days, as long as you have entry tickets for all 3 (or a Gold pass).

  6. I'm reading 'A Christmas Carol' at the moment. After seeing about a million different tv and movie versions of it, I decided it was high time I actually read the book!

Anyway, I was just wondering if anybody could suggest any festive themed Fantasy or Sci-Fi stories that I could read or watch next. They can be books, movies or episodes of a tv show.

Here's a few to start with:

    * A Christmas Carol - movies, books, etc. (I'll be Captain Obvious and get that one out of the way)

    * Nightmare Before Christmas - movie (one of my all time favourites)

    * The Snowman - book, tv (another obvious classic)

    * Father Christmas - book, tv

    * Santa Claus Conquers The Martians - movie (so terrible it's funny)

    Any more...?

  7. Always makes me chuckle - like when I saw a Cyberman crossing the road in Cardiff. You don't really picture Cybermen respecting the Green Cross Code but I guess everyone has to think of safety first!

I think most people are more aware of these things these days and would be more likely to react positively than not.

When I was on my way to the LFCC a few months back, a kid saw my Spider-man t-shirt and said "oh mum! He's got a Spider-man t-shirt!" and started asking his mum loads of questions about Spider-man, like if he was her favourite superhero, who would win in a fight... He certainly liked my t-shirt but she didn't sound quite so enthusiastic... It did make me chuckle though! Hee hee!

I went sci-fi speed dating last year in the US and it was a bit crazy! :D didn't help of course that nearly every single person there was from the surrounding area oops also I didn't realise that they made the guys pay like $25 each and let the girls in for free :o only went cause I was wandering around and it happened to be on when nothing much else was happening and wanted to see what it was like

I was a little put off by all the people that were talking comics and asking me what my favourite comics were and authors and characters and a few seemed genuinely horrified that I said I don't really do comics but yet was there

always thought it would be epic to meet someone that does the shows and/or Red Carpets/Premiers as I seem to spend most of my days off crewing/attending these things  so it would be great as otherwise there is even less time to spend time with them :WINCE:

but if they weren't into premiers/theatre/stage doors/cons/shows, they should atleast understand/accept that I AM into that and it's a huge part of my life :coolthumb:

    funnily enough, still single

    surfy sah xx

also, I saw the guy doing sci-fi speed dating again and just curiously enquired about him coming to a UK con, he gets paid an appearance fee of what sounded like 1000s of $ AND the $25 from each male attendee of each session AND hotel, transport etc paid I think urg! but apparently he just con-hops and does it at all the cons and it's his business

Not sure I'd pay $25 for a speed dating event - especially if it's so difficult for them to find women they're letting them in for free! lol

Same for me really - I spend a lot of time at cons and similar things (as an attendee) and that seems to be a problem to a lot of people. I get a lot of enjoyment out of going to conventions and events like that so they'd need to at least be ok with that but I admit it'd be really great if I met someone who actually also got enjoyment from going to them as well.

Have any of you guys thought about going to another country and bring back a bride? She will attend all the events with you... :whistling:

Nope. Not thought about it. :-P

  9. The plan was that I'd cosplay on the Saturday and just be me on the Sunday, so I'm definitely still going to be dressing up.

My issue though is that I'm awfully shy and this will be my first time cosplaying but my logic was 'the place will be crawling' so I wouldn't stand out too much. I hope this will still be the case to some extent!

I wouldn't worry about it - seeing people cosplay is expected at these things so even if there aren't many other people there (which I doubt will be the case), nobody is going to be thinking anything negative about you cosplaying. :-)
