Silly suggestion perhaps, but I'd like to suggest R.L. Stine. His books and the Goosebumps tv show pretty much introduced me to the horror genre. I don't know if he does conventions but as he's somewhat a childhood hero (I guess) of mine, I would really love to meet him.
