  1. Cosplay (コスプレ, kosupure?), a portmanteau of the English words "costume" and "roleplay", is a Japanese subculture centered on dressing as characters from manga, anime, tokusatsu, and video games, and, less commonly, Japanese live action television shows, fantasy movies, Japanese pop music bands, Visual Kei, fantasy music stories (such as stories by the band Sound Horizon), and novels. However, in some circles, "cosplay" has been expanded to mean simply wearing a costume.

When did it all get watered down to encapsulate everything?

Is fancy dress now Cosplay?. I’m confused.

  2. ....I

  3. Aldrin - £100 (+ £10 per word inscription and £15 per mission inscription?

 I just checked the American sites, and they seem to be $10 a word.

Is this one of these funny £ v $ conversions again.

Like the big Star Wars show in London - where official autograph tokens were $5 in LA and £5 in England.

  4. If you go to his website ScifiMAD, his official autograph dealers, seem to all have similar images.

I’d assume therefore that it’s probable that these will be the ones available at the show.

    Those repeated include:

    BuzzFlag.jpeg

    BuzzPort.jpeg

  5. What if the number of autograph tickets was limited, say 400, so you'd be guaranteed a minute or two with the guest to say 'hi' and get a personalisation, what would you pay for that and who would you pay it for?

Although I’m not that keen to promote it – but wouldn’t bumping up the price stop all the VT scrambles.

You don’t see these same scrambles for the astronauts, probably because they’ve priced themselves above the more casual collector / fan.

  6. Please don’t think that my words are in defence of anybody, or any particular case. I was just implying that I knew the system, and could give examples.

It appears though that my account of the situation wasn’t far wrong.

But anyway let’s leave this here.

    Friends?

  7. Hold on, that’s when these discussions get slightly unfair. You accused me of calling you crazy. My exact words were ‘you come out with crazy statements’ that to me implies that your choice of words / and argument were nonsense, as apposed to you personally being ‘crazy’.

I wasn’t being insulting either by saying that it could be simply confusion with translation. I was trying to explain my initial statement, which you had taken offence too.

I’m sorry, but I’m not one that believes in this ‘Showmasters conspiracy’ nonsense either. Anything I’ve posted so far has been based on fact, and my arguments clearly explained.

You should be aware that because I used the word ‘silenced’, that I know people who have been technically banned. As we both know, those people who sway into dangerous territory, are not officially ‘banned’ as such - because that would display on their profile. Instead they have their posting rights removed, so that their account is in essence frozen.

I thus have no idea the scale of the ‘silencing’, because with this cunning method, to the outside world these people appear as if they’ve just gone away, never to return. Only through contacting them by other means can you learn what actually happened. I do know however that that number has recently rapidly increased.

I didn't notice any members getting banned who voiced their opinion and said opinion was negative. There's quite a bunch of people in the LFACC thread who said something negative (and the discussion was quite heated), but yet are still there.

My guess is that it is for 'some' cases this reason, why ‘they are still there’ [or at least appear to be ;)].

But as Kane says, let’s just concede that we disagree on multiple things. There is no need to add me to the ever growing list, as I’m fairly excited for Autographica.

  8. First of all thank you for calling me "crazy" - I am trying to carry on a normal discussion with you. But honestly speaking you are making it rather hard.

This is rapidly descending into a pointless argument, thus supporting everything I’ve said in my previous posts.

I don’t mean this rudely, but I fear we have a translation problem. I merely inferred that you often defended yourself by stating a bunch of nonsense statements. You’ve clearly translated my words in their more literal meaning.

To back up my statement, I’ll review your previous posts for you. I suggested that many posts and posters were going missing. You said it was rare, and you implied it was mainly because of offensive language. Both of these statements are factually incorrect.

Isn’t the roll of a moderator to be fair, and keep to the facts? The majority of people going missing are those showing dissatisfaction, and / or opinion, and given the recent problems at shows, this ‘silencing’ has rapidly increased.

We clearly have different views on how to moderate message boards. This message board is clearly an important part of your life, and to back off a bit, would be the equivalent of a smoker giving up a 50 a day habit. I believe, I’m never ever going to change your views to anything like mine. So lets just agree to disagree?.

Just to prove that you’re trying to antagonise me – nowhere did I state that ‘every other post’ was being deleted. That is just fantasy. So I’m not even going to bother replying to that nonsense.

Just start being honest and fair Queen Sindel.

  9. Nope, this is not true.

If everybody who shows dissatisfaction would be banned and posts would vanish, a certain topic where indio has been very active in wouldn't be here anymore - even less would be open for posting - and half a dozen members would have been banned in the C12 photo thread.

There's a difference between "members showing dissatisfaction" and users who fall into a category that's generally being called a not so nice name.

Why when anybody questions you, do you then start making crazy statements?

There are many instances where threads / posts / posters have been removed when they haven’t insulted anybody, and usually only expressed some form of dissatisfaction or opinion.

We both know that deleting ‘large’ threads would be stupid, because more people would notice the harsh censorship that you and Showmasters police.

If you’re not guilty of banning people, you’re guilty of being the forefront and often the catalyst of any argument / discussion. Why not just step back, and let the boards police themselves [that’s pretty much what happens in most other communities that I’ve been involved in]. Never before have have I seen two moderators involve themselves in ‘anything’ and ‘everything’ the way that you two do.

Daves got it spot on here, maybe you could learn a thing or two from him?.

  10. Obviuosly you haven't noticed yet: there is no Showmasters section in this board. :chair:

And please do not make comments suggesting the moderators are deleting posts by certain members intentionally. We do only delete inappropriate posts, spam posts etc., and that only happens once in a blue moon.

I like to think this event is only 1/3 Showmasters and that’s why it runs smoother, and friendlier. I’m probably wrong, but please don’t crush my dream.

That’s very strange, there seems to be have been quite a number of people, and posts, going missing recently. Is it true that anybody [apart from Indo] who dares to show dissatisfaction mysteriously vanishes?

Why can’t people just talk freely?, why cant people say ‘hold on that’s wrong, and I’m cheesed off about it’, why do you keep silencing people for having an opinion?... the list is endless.

Thankfully Dave lets gives us more freedom on the Autographica boards, and for that I'm thankfull.

  11. WHERE ARE THEY?

Kiwi has too much time on his hands.

I can’t believe this misunderstanding got him shouting.

Maybe a new hobby is needed.

i just wish we had more 1st timers at this show. oh c,mon now not another complaining topic.

Please keep all complaints to Showmasters sections Indo. They won’t listen, and will probably just delete your posts, but it’ll release your frustrations.

  12. Why do you keep saying "correct me if I'm wrong"? You've said this multiple times already and people have confirmed that this IS the case - are you expecting the rules to have changed since the last time you posted?

Fray101 and Psychosis are both exactly spot on. If you want to pay £20 to have you and your fiancee in the photo, you're effectively paying £10 each to meet the guest, while every other person in the queue has to pay £20. It's totally and utterly unfair, and on top of that, completely open to abuse. I know I'd happily have a picture taken with the guest, me, and a friend of mine, if my friend and I only had to pay half the price each, and so would a LOT of other people.

I thought it was a ‘photo shoot’, not a chance to ‘meet the guest’.

We should get you to write lines, until it sinks in – this is the official line, as stated by DavidB over and over again.

We pay for an ‘autograph’ that does not necessarily mean ‘personalising’, ‘asking questions or any form of communication, or acknowledgement’ etc.

We pay for a photograph that does not necessarily mean ‘asking questions or any form of communication’, ‘touching’ etc – and therefore shouldn’t really be considered ‘meeting’ rather ‘standing next too’.

"correct me if I'm wrong"... :D

  13. No, it's not. It's a discussion point, not me validating reasons behind Showmasters prices.

At the end of the day, they're a business and if they choose to do things a certain way then that's up to them. There is no standard way of doing things for an organiser of an event. You get plenty of businesses selling the same product but adopting different pricing strategies etc. It's not an entirely unique situation.

As with any situation, some people will be fine with it and some won't. I understand the points raised, but as with others, I don't necessarily agree with them.

That is a fair point DavidB, and I accept what you’re saying.

Increasingly though there seems to be an increased ‘rumbling’ that some Showmasters practices are getting a little bit too driven by business and profit, whist ultimately forgetting the fans, and value for money.

Its things like this silly practice, which increases this reputation.

But as you say it’s their business, they make the rules – regardless of if the majority of ‘fans’ think they're fair or not.

  14. Is that not open to abuse though?

It can be as simple as getting one copy between 3 people, then them copying it themselves and ending up with 3 surely?

So it’s priced like this because a few might go and print their own.

At some point you have to weigh up ‘the probability of these events actually happening’ verses ‘fairness and value for money for customers’.

  15. Dave, I see you as a sensible and fair person.

If we have ‘photography’ at this event – and the dreaded ‘no posed pictures’ signs.

Can we have review of the current procedures [re: pricing for multiple people in one shot, overall quality, etc, etc].

  16. Tha seems a bit stupid, so if I wanted just one copy of a photo with a guest, with my fiance and I in, then we would have to pay double for that photo, compared to everyone else, even though we still only want one copy? (I hope I have got this right?) Please correct me if wrong, because if this is the case, then I will never get photoshoot tickets for a showmasters event ever, cause that would seem a bit of a con to me.....

I mean come on, what would we want with 2 photos of us with the guests, its not like we are going to put both on the wall, in the back room. You pay double, you get two photos, so we really should pay for one photoshoot ticket as we only want one photo.

You don't even get the photo back signed like you do at other events, and you expect me to pay double for the privelage. ;):borg:

    I agree with you brother.

It should be the normal price for one person, and a slightly higher price for couples.

Charging 2 tickets and saying it’s because you both have your own photographs is weak, and a clear rip off.

  17. Noone knows for sure how fast a guest will sign. There is no way to work it out really!

You have enough experience to work out the ‘average’ time though, and make fairly reasonable estimations. These figures could also be agreed in the contract with the star?.

If there ends up, being space at the end for more, sure sell more tickets on the day.

Like too tall said. with a family of 4 they need 4 tickets. How many 7year olds have credit cards?!

Limit tickets 4 per credit card.

Everybody has to be named at time of purchase, and everybody has to bring photographic ID.

This aint a concert...VTs are first come first served. Im sure there is a way to make them easier, but dont think this is the way to do that

Aren’t tickets bought on the internet still in a way ‘first come, first served’.

  18. 2: It would cause huge issues for the SM servers with the huge influx of traffic every time a big guests was announced, with everyone trying to get their VTs on-line.

    Upgrade, develop?

3: People would request the lowest tickets they could, but not turn up until late. They'd get number 1 if they could but then knowing they have ticket number 1 they would then not bother to turn up until maybe 11am (getting in cheaper) knowing they have their VT and can join the queue as soon as they get there. If all the people that have tickets 1 to 200 do this, we'll have a guest sat there from 9am until 11am with next to no one seeing them or we put the numbers up to 300+ to get people in the queue but then suddenly at 11am instead of having 30-40 people in the real queue we'd have 200+.

Print realistic times on the ticket.

    ++Example only++

    Tickets 1 – 200 : 9.00 – 10.30

    Tickets 201 – 400: 10.30 – 12.00

4: People would order them and not use them. We could have 1000 tickets ordered on-line but we'd have no way of knowing how many of those people are actually at the show. OK it happens now were people take tickets and don't come back, but even at 4pm it's only 20% max that don't come back. If you could easily order them on-line people would order them "just in case" they were going. As I say we'd have no idea how many of the 1000 were actually going to come to the event. We do use the number of tickets gone out as a gadge as to how fast we need the guest to sign.

Pay for your autographs at the same time.

Who’s going to miss the queue then?.

5: On-line there is no way of limiting it to one per person. How do you stop people getting more than one. Everyone has to get their own? What about children? A family of 4 has to have 4 different orders, one for each member of the family? How could we prove that it's not just someone coming up with a fake wife and 2 children's names? We have to have a limit of one per person or people would get 4, 8 or 12 tickets and then sell them.

    One ticket per credit card?

Specify name, bring photographic ID -> when you pick up photo to be signed.

6: It could start a whole black market in VTs. Even if we could limit it to one per person, you can't tell me that if someone has VTs 1 for let's say Orlando Bloom, that someone isn't going to pay a lot of money on eBay to get it. People would get to know this and we'd have people waiting on-line to get a low VT that have no intention of going to the event, they just want to try and get a low VT for a big guest to try and sell on. It's a no loss situation for them, the VTs are free so they loss nothing by trying but could get £5-£20+ for a VT. As I say someone would pay £20+ for a number 1 to 30 Orlando ticket.

This is like concert tickets, and every other ticket in existence.
