Matt Smith & Simon Coleby launching Judge Dredd: Year One at the 7th April 2013 Comic Mart In 2013, IDW Publishing will be going back to explore the earliest days of Judge Dredd's career, in a new mini-series aptly dubbed Judge Dredd: Year One. Written by 2000AD Editor-in-Chief Matt Smith and drawn by Dredd vet Simon Coleby (and Greg Staples on covers), we'll get to see a much younger Dredd before he made waves in Mega-City One. Of course, Dredd fans know that in the original 2000AD comics, Dredd ages in real time (he's over 70 and was diagnosed with cancer in 2008), so it'll be fun to go back to his earliest days as a Judge. “Dredd's a notoriously difficult character to get the voice right -- and it becomes even more of a challenge when you're writing him as an eighteen year old, fresh out of the Academy,” said Matt Smith. “But it's been great fun charting his early cases, feeding into the stories the elements that will go on to make him Mega-City's most feared lawman. And it's terrific to have Simon Coleby on board, a superb artist and well experienced in portraying the madness of the future metropolis.”
