  1. YES YES YES!!! I WOULD KILL FOR A MERLIN CON!!

Anyone who wants Showmasters to run a Merlin con and has a Twitter account use this hashtag: #wewantamerlinconvention.

It started out as a bit of a joke between me and my friends, but maybe if enough people RT it it could help. LOL!

  2. Thought it might be useful to have a thread so that everyone could give their feedback on the event.

Overall I thought it was a fab event. The guests for the most part were incredibly lovely and people like Rik and Ben were just so genuine and thrilled that so many people wanted to see them and I'd love to have them back again. Ditto Paul Copeley and Liz May Brice. And kudos on keeping Kai a surprise - the scream when he appeared was amazing to hear. I also thought that Gareth was amazing - once again he stepped up to the plate despite other headliners falling by the wayside and it was wonderful to see him again. It wouldn't be a Hub event without him. Have to say Katy Wix seemed a bit bewildered and overwhelmed by it all but I guess these events aren't for everyone.

Pleased that the next event will be elsewhere. Although the problem with the Park Inn is that it has so few rooms and is pay in advance which just isn't practical in the current climate- you need a hotel you can take over that has enough rooms to accommodate everyone and that doesn't require you to pay up now! As far superior a hotel as the Hilton was I very much disliked the attitude of the staff there. To me it seemed very very clear that they didn't want the event there and someone (the manager? he had an American accent) was incredibly rude to my friends and I on the Saturday night. Also the housekeeping staff seemed to ignore the Do Not Disturb signs and barged in regardless. The bar staff were inattentive and took forever (and I'm not precious about these things) and the discount bar was still ludicrously expensive. Also some of the comments from the other patrons of the hotel were somewhat less than kind. The whole point of going to a convention is to have a great time with like minded people - not deal with hostile staff and rude jeers from other people at the hotel.

In terms of the convention I guess I had 2 suggestions - I do think that the intimate encounters should have a minimum bid of £10 as it just somehow seemed a bit disrespectful that a talk with Daniel Denby Ashe went for £5 and a talk with Paul Copeley £6 - £10 just seems somehow far more respectable a figure.

But my mine gripe was the cocktail party. I can't fault how well its put together or how attentive the crew were - everyone was going around topping up peoples drinks which was very impressive but you desperately need to circulate the guests better. It just didn't work at all and because you do everything else so well it was frustrating to see something so simple not working. I mean our group only saw the two guests we did because we made eye contact with one (Rik) who then came over and because I had to kick up a (polite) fuss and get Gareth bought over as the girls I was stood with desperately wanted to speak to him. We also saw Ben but that doesn't count as he was literally taken away from our group by his handler after being stood there for all of 15 seconds! I stood and watched as guests were bought to the same group twice, as guests stood with one group for 15 minutes and others for 30 seconds, as people followed the guest around the room, as people did the little trick of suddenly appearing in the circle whenever guests were chatting to one group. Somehow you need to define the groups in the room and the guests handlers need to steer them round the room in one clear direction and be assertive enough to encourage those who either try and follow the guest around or just magically appear at your side whenever one of the guests is there to go back to their groups and stay there. The guests should be coming to you - not the other way around.

Because it was the Saturday night and we'd already actually seen all the Saturday guests by that point I wasn't as annoyed as I might have been if it had been held on the Friday but the gold ticket holders do actually pay a fair bit of money for that cocktail party so it is important that its done right - noone should be coming out feeling that they didn't get to meet everyone they wanted to.

I totally agree with you RE: the hotel. I WAS NOT impressed with the level of service AT ALL, and I have stayed at a Hilton before for a convention and never had any problem there.

I found the staff to generally indifferent or outright rude from the moment I walked in the door and I often had problems getting served at the bar. And considering the prices they were charging, you would expect IMPECCABLE service. Also, I didn't like how isolated the hotel was, as you really had no option other than to eat in their LUDICROUSLY expensive restaurants/bars. So I'm glad The Hub 4 is back at The Park Inn. It is much more convenient.

I also totally agree about the Gold drinks party. I wasn't impressed with it and my group only got to see ONE guest (Gareth) because I also kicked up a polite fuss. And yeah, we got Ben for about 15 secs too, so I'm not counting him.

I also wasn't impressed with the selection of drinks available. I don't like wine so I had no option but to drink coke, and at one point even that ran out!! Now, I'm not expecting champagne and caviar but even a selection of different soft drinks would've been better than just wine or coke.

To be honest, I was so unimpressed with it that I have totally been put off buying a Gold ticket again.

Other than that it was fantastic. Rik & Ben were especially lovely, the Kai surprise was AMAZING, and Gareth was wonderful. I agree that The Hub wouldn't be the same without him and I sincerely hope we get him again for The Hub 4.

  3. Just phoned the hotel again. Apparently all but 16 rooms are reserved for the convention, and it is those spare 16 that some people have managed to book without paying in advance.

However, all 16 have now been booked up, and the ONLY way to book a room is to pay £65 per night at the time of booking.

It will only be refunded if the con is cancelled.

  4. Aren't we meant to wait for a convention code? I'm sure that's what we've been told for the previous events so I haven't booked my room yet. I've researched the Park Inn a lot now though and it seems perfect. Its about a quarter of a mile from the train station, in the town centre where my mum can go shopping, about 2 hours away from where I live and it just seems perfect. I did however love the Birmingham NEC this year but I've never been to the Park Inn so can't compare them. :D

If we were meant to wait they would have told us to at the weekend - I would book now if you definately have your hub 4 ticket. The man at Park Inn told me that if you book at convention rate (£65 a night with breakfast) you need to pay in advance or you can pay their rate (£69 a night with breakfast) and no payment needed in advance. I booked mine over the internet and checked it again over phone today. I would not really have been able to go if I had not booked at park inn as my baby is due at end of Jan and it will be a nightmare going to and fro to feed him/her. Now my husband can keep baby in room at busy times away from all the hussle and bussle.

I just tried to book a room and was told the con rate was £65 per night and HAD to be paid at the time of booking.

I asked what the normal rate was if I wanted to pay when I get there and was told there is NO SUCH OPTION because the convention has the entire hotel reserved.

Now I'm confused, since you managed to book a room for £69 per night without paying in advance, right?

  5. Blue Gillespie songs for one. :WINCE:

    Also...

    'Don't Stop Believing' - Journey

'You're the Voice' - John Farnham (If you're involved in the Merlin fandom you'll understand why. )

'The Way You Make Me Feel' - Michael Jackson

'Brass in Pocket' - The Pretenders

'Total Eclipse of the Heart' - Bonnie Tyler

'Mmmbop' - Hanson (Yes, I AM serious.)

I'm sure I could think of a million more, but for now I shall just leave you with this strange mix of random 80's/90's songs.

    And Blue Gillespie.

  6. TooTall said in a thread about another event that he's been ill all week... I'm guessing this could be delaying it a little too.

Nope, I'm not the delay :P

We're waiting on something, the schedule's pretty much done, as soon as this one last thing is confirmed I'll get it finished and up on the forum.

Sorry it's just been one of those things that's been out of our hands.

    YAY! Thanks, TooTall! :D

  7. Am I just being really thick and missing it, or has the schedule not been posted yet?

It's usually up by now, right? At least I'm sure it was for The Hub 2...

What do you think this means? Last minute guest(s), perhaps?

  8. I always thought they went back at 1am to midnight.

i googled this to check and

    http://www.viewlondon.co.uk/whatson/clocks...eature-400.html

says 1am but a few other people have said 2am

    so im confused now.

Just to confuse us the clocks go back at 1am GMT which is 2am BST (British Summer Time). So, in a way both are correct. Sort of.

But because we are on BST at the moment when our clocks say 2am is when we need to put them back.

    Does that make sense?

  9. Tom has a gig on the 24th so he'd miss seeing Kai, cos Kai can only do Saturday as he's running on Sunday unless they both come to Friday party.

Tom had a gig on the Saturday night of the Hub2 and came back for the Sunday :) Nothing stopping him from doing the same again this time! :D

I think Tom is only the MC for that gig, so, to be honest, I don't think there'd be much of a problem cancelling it.

Or, like you said, he could do the same thing he did for the Hub 2.

He has repeatedly said he wants to come, so I'm guessing it wouldn't be a problem either way.

  10. TOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM!!!!!

He is SO number one on my list!! Would be great to get his partner in crime, Kai, as well, but if I had to pick one it would have to be Tom!

Come on, SM/ME! He was in CoE, you know, if that's the criteria you're looking for!

Plus he's adorable, funny as hell, he WANTS to be there (perhaps unlike a certain guest from last time *coughRodericcough*) and he got the most votes in the 'Who do you want?' poll thingy!

So pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeease can we have him? Ahem. For the con, I mean. Just for the con. No other way. What other way could I mean? Um...

    Yeah. Annnyway...

    Tom, please!

  11. Not ready to give up on this yet...

I'll bet SM/ME have saved A LOT of money with John not being able to attend. *wink wink nudge nudge*

Come on! We all know Tom is cheap! Wait... um...

Yeah, anyway... WE WANT TOM! WE WANT TOM! WE WANT TOM!

  12. THIS SUCKS SO MUCH!! :(:D:(:(:(

Now my gold ticket isn't looking so shiny! :(

If I had the choice now I would just buy a standard ticket and pay extra for a Gareth photoshoot.

Because, honestly, I'm not all that interested in the other guests. Yes, I'm one of those people who weren't really happy with CoE, so...

    :(

Only thing that would cheer me up now is if Tom and/or Kai were annoucned. Or even Burn/Naoko!

  13. Too be honest rather him then anyone from CoE (not main cast).

Totally agree! The guest list is fab, but I'd happily trade all the CoE guests (not main cast) for Tom! Does that make me a bad person? Or just an extreme Tom fangirl? :(

  14. I've already asked, of course, but am just stepping back in demurely to say that I'd still really love to see Tom at Hub 3, should you happen to get more guests. He'd fit the combined bills of being regular cast, featured in CoE and a guest who's proven himself to be absolutely wonderful.

    THIS!

Pretty please can we get Tom? :(

  15. I'd still love to see Tom & Kai there. Or even Naoko or Burn.

Don't get me wrong, I am VERY impressed with the line-up so far, but it would be nice to have some more series regulars (like Tom & Kai) rather than more people we were only introduced to us in CoE.

But then, as someone who wasn't particularly happy with CoE overall, perhaps I'm just worried about this event becoming ALL ABOUT CoE. Understandable, yes, considering the timing, but not necessarily desirable. For me anyway.

And let us not forget, both Tom & Kai WERE IN CoE TOO.

So, as series regulars that were very much involved in the CoE, is it so unreasonable for many people to want them to be there?

Showmasters, if are getting any more guests (and I'd be surprised if we were), please could we get Tom or Kai (or both)?

Personally, I would quite happily pay extra for Tom & Kai, if necessary (or Burn/Naoko). And I've already forked out £195 for a gold pass!

  16. I will never stop wanting Tom!! Or stop asking for him! My love for him knows no bounds! ;D

PLEEEEEEEEEEEEEASE CAN WE GET TOM!!!! PRETTY PLEASE WITH UNEXPECTED!NAKED!JACK ON TOP!!

  17. I think it's no secret that I love Tom! HE IS AMAZING!! And he WAS in CoE! ;D

Honestly, the guests we've got so far are great, but I have to agree I'd rather have people like Tom, Kai, Eve, Burn and Naoko (or even Matt Rippy) than more CoE-only guests.

But then, I wasn't particularly happy with CoE, and in some respects I'm trying to pretend it didn't happen at all! LOL!
