  1. Good luck with Michael J Fox. Hopefully you do know he has Parkinsons Disease and was diagnosed with it in the early 90's.

Yes, I am aware of that - you should read his biography - tear jerking stuff. By all accounts it is under control to an extent, and he's doing his best to live with this debilitating disease, and he's doing it with a positive attitude that not many people would be able to match. Quite seriously, he's an example to us all in my opinion.

  2. ...

    Jeri Ryan

    Amanda Tapping

    Terry Farrell

    Marina Sirtis

    Gates McFadden

    Levar Burton

    ...

firslty the bottom 3 have all been to SM events RECENTLY before :P

secondly Terry has cancelled, as already posted by some one else :P

thirdly Amanda Tapping, don't the SG fans wish! but she has recently had a child and when she does come back on the circuit, she owes an appearence at her own con first, that has been postponed twice due to her comittments

forthly, again, Jeri Ryan! sure ALOT people would LOVE to meet her, but lets face it, unfortunately she doesn't do conventions/shows very often

Aw - Levar Burton and Gates McFadden have already been eh? Grrr..... oh well. They'll come again.

  3. I feel the current LFCC situation is symptomatic of the general con circuit decline both here and in the US.

This is due to more factors than can be gone in to here. But the main ones are fairly obvious:

A lack of guests who will do all day signing events.

    Organisers attracting the wrong audience.

The wrong audience having silly expectations of what can be delivered in terms of guests.

Organisers making events too large all in the name of profit.

A global downturn in interest of the staple diet of these events ie sci-fi.

lol @ you guys - you talk about me taking it too seriously! There was a small dose of irony in my post to be fair (particularly with the guest list). Much as I would love to dribble all over Jeri Ryan, I can't see her turning up anytime soon - besides, as you say, this is not a trek con.

Seriously though, it's a point well made, and I honestly think that Jolly Roger here has hit on something - I think his five points there are big issues for an outfit like showmasters (for collectormania as well) - particularly : -

A lack of guests who will do all day signing events.

Very true - honestly a lot of these guys have got packed schedules, and I wonder how much they make from this sort of thing - prob not as much as you might think.

The wrong audience having silly expectations of what can be delivered in terms of guests.

Much as I would love to see Angelina Jolie or Harrison Ford turn up, it ain't going to happen. But that said, I honestly couldn't give much of a monkeys about 'the guy who played Elf #197 in the Two Towers'. Balance is the key here, in terms of our expectations and Showmasters.

A global downturn in interest of the staple diet of these events ie sci-fi.

Yep - how many sci-fi shows are on now? Seriously? SG-1 is coming to an end (c'mon, how much longer can it go on? I love it, but it's on the 9th season), no more Star Trek or Buffy anymore either. Very few new shows are coming on, because the interest is not there like it was 10 years ago (or even 5).

  4. After all, check out the announcements so far. There's what, a month to go? It's not looking good. Never mind the fact that the babe-licious Terry Farrell has cancelled (my main reason for going), but it's looking like the guest list is going to be anaemic at best. Trouble is, without good guests, no-one will go, hence dealers won't book for the next one, etc.

I honestly think the only way they can come back from this debacle-in-the-making is to book the following guests QUICKLY : -

    Jeri Ryan

    Amanda Tapping

    Marina Sirtis

    Terry Farrell

    Gates McFadden

    Levar Burton

Without these, we're going to be walking around looking like all the cousins have just turned up for a 2 week stay. I tell you guys, this is a disaster in the making - I just hope Showmasters can turn this ship around, because at the moment it's heading straight for the rocks :D

  5. Thing is mate women will not want to be known as Mrs Spielberg, she does not need the cash, but she does need her own Identity! Play that angle and im sure you could talk her round

Carrie, Billy and Mark are all great guests and I would love a chance to meet them

I hope you're right! Kate Capshaw would be a top notch guest. Add in Karen Allen and Alison Doody and we're laughing :P

How about Carrie Fisher and Natalie Portman? MOTHER AND DAUGHTER REUNITED!

  6. Yeah - Carrie Fisher was at CM6. She wasn't wearing the gold bikini though (pity) - but I'll bet for a woman her age she could still fill it well. Mark Hamill is certainly a must - With Revenge of The Sith out, it seems a good opportunity for him to come out. Add Frank Oz to the list as well!

  7. Agreed - Although I don't think we have much chance of Kate Capshaw, since she is married to Steven Spielberg and in all honesty doesn't need the money.

An Indiana Jones reunion would be top notch - John Rhys Davies already turns up quite regularly. Marc Singer would be good - also Jane Badler.

This Terry Farrell thing stinks though - she is an ultra-babe, and the main reason I was going (boo hoo)

  8. Here's my ideal list for either CM8 or LFACC3 : -

    Terry Farrell (Un-cancel her then!)

    Jeri Ryan

    Amanda Tapping

    Marina Sirtis (again please)

    Gates McFadden

    Gillian Anderson

    Vanessa Angel

    Karen Allen

    Kate Capshaw

    Alison Doody

Bit of a female trend there eh? Well, here's a few blokes to add to the list, just to keep things balanced : -

Harrison Ford (Yes, I know, fat chance)

    William Shatner (Ditto)

    Richard Dean Anderson (prob ditto)

    George Takei

    Levar Burton

    Mark Hamill

    Ian McDiarmid

    Anthony Daniels

    Marc Singer

    Thoughts?
