  1. I can't imagine there being a problem there. The only thing is I think the MJF Diamond passes are in batch numbers which indicate when the holder gets their photo with Michael. That being said I really doubt you'll have any problems with this request as Showmasters are sure to be accommodating. You should probably give the shop a call.

  2. Thanks for the post Jason and thumbs up for getting Michael over.

I would only add that for the Diamond Pass for Michael it would have been nice to have the choice of standard, delorean or clock photo with Michael.

I would also agree with the poster above that it would be good to have an autograph only option the way in which you've done for the photos. But I am assuming that for Michael that just would not have worked as I presume he is very limited in the amount of autographs he can write due to his illness.

I hope that 'autograph only' hunters and 'photos with' hunters are both kept happy going forward with the big guest stars.

  3.

Well done Showmasters for securing this guest but I'm very disappointed that the initial announcement was a bit misleading. MJF was the first name that came to my mind but the line that stated it wasn't going to be who we all thought made me dream bigger!

The photo ops are a reasonable price I'd say but the HUGE £445 price tag for the chance of an autograph is a bit rich for most people. Makes me worry for the future as bigger guests are booked, is the sky the limit when it comes to putting a price on meeting them?

I guess it's only worth what we are willing to pay but for some people it's not a case of willing, it's a case of having the money. For me, meeting someone like Sigourney Weaver would be worth £445 plus, but I couldn't get that sort of cash together in 7 days, especially not before pay day!

Hope everyone who was in, got!

Understandable that the price would be limiting for some, but the £445 is for so much more than just an autograph. If you go back to the first post, there are lots of things tied in with it over the weekend that, I think, definitely make it worth the cost. Just wish I could have managed to get one!

When I go to the supermarket and buy my weekly shopping and I see the sign "buy 3 for the price of 2" I end up coming home with 3 of everything and really I only wanted 1! What I'm trying to say is that for the £445 you're not really getting 'so much more than the autograph'; it is basically the cost of the photo with & autograph to a large extent. You can understand why SM have packaged it this way though as I'm sure MJF must be limited in the number of autographs he could do over the course of a few days. I ended up buying the diamond pass and much like my weekly shopping I'll end up with things I don't want but I will be pleased to meet MJF.

The prices of packages to meet guests at events (not specifically SM) has gone stratospheric and therefore because of the inflated cost of Stallone, Pacino & Schwarzenegger to name a few I've seen at various 'events' it would be easy to convince yourself that you're getting a comparative good deal with MJF. However even taking the MJF cost on its own terms I think what Jason and SM have done there is still actually relatively fair. ~£95 is bordering on too expensive for a photo with but I think it is still fair. ~£345 (£445 less the photo with cost, lets forget about the other added extras) is very expensive for an autograph, I'd say far too expensive but I am assuming it has been packaged this way as MJF is limited to the number of autographs he is able to do because of his illness whereas the photos with are a much less demanding activity for him.

I do think that Jason and the SM team should be applauded for what they've done with the event for 2015 and the guests especially MJF. I just hope that we don't see e.g. Stallone et al. at the LFCC in the future in a secluded room charging ~£200 for a photo with and ~£1,000 for a diamond package that gives you photo with, autograph and a lot of other nonsense that nobody really cares for. Jason mentioned 'fair' in his initial big guest announcement post and I think they've done that with MJF, I just hope going forward that continues to be the case.

  4. I have the three vintage star wars posters and I decided to have Star Wars signed in blue, Empire signed in White and Jedi signed in Silver to match the colours in the posters. It is difficult (especially when asking Harrison Ford to switch pen!) but worth it. I would generally use a blue Sharpie, a white oil based marker and a silver sharpie. For the White and the Silver I basically just buy a fresh pen for each convention or stalk. The nibs dry out on those types of pens very easily but the blue sharpies tend to have a good bit of life in them.

  5. I only went on the Saturday but it was busier than I expected. Far more Cosplayers than I expected and they have already announced there will be a BFCC for 2015 over Halloween. So it must have been a success. They had a great line up of guests, just a shame that three rather decent guests cancelled at the last minute.

  6. I bought Letraset Metallic markers, they didn't need to have the nib pressed down or shaken. I thought they were brilliant and then I discovered that the pen would just rub off any photos or glossy items so easily.

It can be so frustrating looking for pens.

  7. They are the same ones that showmasters have on their tables. The only issue with the metallic Sharpies is that it is just so difficult to know if and when (because they will) give you bother. It is not so bad on desk photos because if the pen doesn't write very well on the photo then the guest could just sign another photo. But if you have your own personal item you want signed then it is always difficult to know what kind of metallic pen to use. You can buy the paint marker pens which tend to look great but there is a chance of failure to write or a massive splodge on your item.

Personally I tend to buy these Sharpies you have for any event that is coming up and then just throw the Sharpie away afterwards. They can dry out which is frustrating and that is why they are only really good for one or a couple of events.

The metallics look great when they come out good but it can be so frustrating at times.

  8. I met him at a Q&A theatre event a few years ago in Southwark, London and he happily waited and signed my three Star Wars posters with absolutely no problems whatsoever, with a smile on his face and then still with a smile on his face happily took a photo with me. He was a nice chap.

It is obvious from his recent comments that he just has an issue with dealers that want multiple autographs from him to sell on. As a collector it can be frustrating when you are at a premiere or any event if there are dealers and they end up getting multiples while you get nothing, but they do provide a service to real fans that cannot attend these types of events. I think it is just the manners that some individuals have, be they dealers or real fans, when trying to get an autograph as there can be pushing and shoving but for dealers it is their livelihood and the real fans are just so overly excited to meet their idol.

Presumably he has had plenty of bad experiences with dealer types and maybe that has soured him, but I know many dealers that are lovely people.

Hopefully he will speak to his Uncle Denis and do an event such as Showmasters for the 'real' fans.

  9. If the event is busy it means there will likely be another one next year. If it is not busy it will go the way of the Dodo. I will be going on the Saturday and for a Belfast event they had a pretty good line up. Just a shame about the two recent cancellations but there is nothing Showmasters can do about that. Hopefully it will be busy enough to warrant another show next year.
