Well the staff do volunteer their own free time to help out at these events. They don't get paid, so I guess it's some sort of thank you to them, I personally feel they at least deserve that considering they spend the whole weekend organising and running the events and dealing with the public.
As for the end of the queue, perhaps the reason there was no-one behind you was because the queue attendant stopped the queue from growing because leonard may have been due a break or something after that queue had finished?
Oh and wow Leonard Nimoy does not look 78 years old! Does he really have Vulcan blood!
I agree with your comment about the volunteer staff. But be subtle and wait after the "customers" have gone from ear/eyeshot!
After all, I've seen in other (not Showmasters) conventions [and for some reason more often in cafes], managers "telling off" members of staff in view of the customers...

I was a bit disappointed as I didn't get a personalisation from Nimoy when the virtual queue just turned 300. Did anyone manage one from him?
I was a bit annoyed as there was nobody behind us in the queue, and the Collectormania lady who was with him at the desk, asked him to do some dedications for the staff! She even had a bunch of photos ready for him to sign with post-it notes with what they wanted on it.
If staff can get one, why not us when the queue was empty?

What happened to the fair ground? Did they ever open?
I saw them setting up on Fri morning, but they packed up around lunch time on Saturday.
No candy floss or fairground hot dogs for me!

Did anyone go on Friday?
I went on both Fri and Sat, and despite the appearance of disorganisation as soon as the doors opened, the staff were actually very nice and helpful when I needed help.

With hardly any queuing, I managed to get personalisations and a posed photo from everyone except from Nathan and Avery. It's a shame as there weren't any photo shoots on Friday otherwise I would have got them.
John was very cheery at such an early hour. It did lift the spirits of all the fans who were half asleep. He did crack a good quip when he recognised a bunch of people whom he saw earlier in Avery's queue.
The dealers' areas was great... lots of stalls, no crowds so got the chance to buy stuff. With hindsight, I wished I did all the "shopping" on Fri as the next day was another matter.
Bad things:
No Leonard Nimoy on this quiet day :-(
The stadium bacon sandwich was seriously awful.
It was freezing!
What happened to the fair ground?

Volumes of Buffy "Season 8" paperbacks....
In my haste, I forgot to shop around... a dealer in the Clydesdale bank room were selling them on a buy "two get one free offer", but stupidly I got two volumes from another dealer at full price
So shop around!!

The amount I'd pay depends on how much I'd value a guest, and not on current popularity. I'd normally *try* to stay away from "currently famous" celebrities at conventions normally because of the queuing & photo policy. A few conventions ago, a popular BBC celebrity charged £20 for an autograph, had a no-photo policy and the queue stretched as far as the eye could see. A couple of weeks previous to this, he was signing his autobiography at a book store. All it cost was his book and significantly less queuing!
Some guests, I'd happily pay and queue more for... for example, Astronauts, Politicians and other historic figures.
This topic is going down a dangerous road as it gives certain guests a bigger ego over the others, and convention organisers the thought of, "How much do you think we can get away with?"

Im not a fan of ST so I didn’t attempt to meet him but I didn’t notice him to not have a que at any point I went over to the area he was while waiting to meet Jeff Cohen and the few people that did go up to meet him didn’t get much of a conversation from him.
Then, he went off to for a walk and two men dressed as klingons stopped him and asked for photos, he said go away, leave me alone. They replied simply with please just one pic im a big fan of your work and he said, no leave me alone, im not a klingon.
I understand he didn’t want to stop to take pictures and he shouldn’t have to quite frankly but im not sure if he really needed to be quite so rude either.
It reminds me of the film "Galaxy Quest".
There is no need to be rude to fans. Such comments (above) and to paraphrase what he said to me, essentially, "Go to the photo shoot" is rather abrupt. Perhaps a jovial fobbing off excuse will be more appropriate? Perhaps we did not understand his dry sense of humour?
I wonder if anyone got a photo shoot with him?

Having the convention in the MK centre has the advantage that "newcomers" to the convention scene aren't thrown in at the deep end. I often try to drag my friends along to conventions, but some are unwilling to pay for an entrance fee without knowing what they're letting themselves in for. With the free entrance at the MK centre, they get a fairly relaxed introduction to convention scene and those who don't like it can go shopping for a bit.
Although having a space just for the convention (as in Collectormania Midlands) is good: Talks, car parking, more stalls etc... it may not appeal to some people. The MK centre has the advantage for cheap and nice food. John Lewis does a nice breakfast!

I was meant to get René Auberjonois' autograph. I really hope that some DS9 actors will come to a convention again soon. Love to meet Armin!

Does anyone know who this actor is, and what film the photo was from?
I can only read the first part of his name as "Serge"... otherwise, I'm at a loss...

Oh my god I hope that changes about Michael Dorn!!! He wasn't like that last time! I like to get piccies of people signing my print... I even have one of Patrick- that'd be stupid if out of everyone, he didn't allow it

Hmmm so if Morena isn't doing posed photos even on the Friday which isn't busy, I probably won't bother going on the Sunday.
She's got a photo shoot on Sunday so you could still get a pic with her! Shame that nobody is doing them on Friday. At least Friday is a very quiet day in the morning... no queuing at all.

It wasn't very busy at 10:00am on the Friday, so they happily posed for a photograph with me.
Morena Baccarin - had a "no posed photo" policy but let me take one of her whilst signing. Her queue was building up even before she arrived!
Michael Dorn - had no signs saying "no photos" or "no posed photos" up when I saw him at 9:30. He said that if I wanted a photo, I had to go to a photo shoot! :-(

I would have loved to see John, but the queues were too big! I've met him once at a book signing when he came to Oxford so I wasn't really bothered. His autobiography was cheaper than an autographed photo though!
Shame that he and Eve were here for only one day!

Natalia was the most friendly guests I've met today!
She commented that I was using a "retro" camera, so I gave her the photo, and she asked me to "autograph" the picture for her... After a quick chat about the camera, I promptly left as not to hold up the queue.
When she saw me at her photo shoot she remembered me by name, and said that the photo had developed okay!

I think he was... he has had many small appearances since "The Prisoner" but nothing too major.

Patrick McGoohan is renowned for his work in "The Prisoner". I would so like to see him, but he rarely makes public appearances.

He is only one of three Astronauts who have flown both earth orbital and lunar Apollo Missions.If you're talking about Scott Bakula, I'd say being a real life astronaut is a hell of a lot more important than standing in front of a camera pretending to be someone else?
But £95 isn't that a bit steep...

Virtual Queuing for photo shoots?
The queues for the photo shoots (Nimoy in particular) was a shambles. One of the CM staff kept on shouting at people with the "wrong colour ticket" to go away, and didn't give much other information. There wasn't even a 'ribbon' to ensure that the snaking queue didn't clog up the place! Surely a stadium must have knowledge and equipment for setting up queues efficiently?
Why don't photo shoot tickets double up a a virtual queue ticket too? It'll encourage people to order on line if it gets them a lower number!!!
