  1. i was just wondering if there is any news on the hotel the crew are gonna be staying at for next weekend cause i haven't heard anything or received an email yet?

When the emails are sent out it will be posted on here by Too Tall. Until then you'll need to have a bit of patience as everything is still being finalized with the hotel, room buddies, amount of rooms needed etc.

Can you give an idea of area? it's impacting travel plans already as ticket prices change.

  2. I have a question about the staff on Saturday...where was the chap with the glasses and beard who is normally at the desk where the postal tickets/wrist passes were handed out? Also, was that Too Tall in the black suit (he was as tall as Richard Kiel)?

The chap with glasses and beard was on holiday.

  3. All I can say is............WOW! Your photos are staggering!

A brilliant reminder of a fantastic weekend :crying:

Thanks - I'm just uploading them to Facebook too for those that prefer to see them there. Feel free to tag away once published.

As for staggering - that was some of the crew by the time I drove home on Saturday night ;-)

  4.

Who was the bald security guy doing his best Aaron Pierce impression? He had the curly earpiece and everything. I kept expecting him to talk into his watch, and say "we have Eagle One, repeat we have him".

He's one of our regulars - and does talk into his watch. :-) Lovely chap who's done a lot of events over the years so is well used to the Showmasters etc. crowds, and their behaviour.

  5. Stuart they say you don't appreciate a person till you have walked a mile in their shoes. All I can say is, ain't no-one can fill your shoes in every sense of the word

I know his feet are large - but to walk a mile in his shoes you'd have to walk around with tiny footsteps.

Sillyness aside, thanks to both you and Stuart for the weekend. You've had my comments about the problems - far more of the time wasn't problems.

  6. Hey people ive been inactive from these forums for ages but I really want to know if he showed up and if anyone met him>?!

babylon 5 is the best work of sci fi Ive ever seen and it changed my life over the 5 seasons and I cant believe how little press it gets these days, like it just disappeared.

Your thoughts will be read (by me at least)

    take care

I was his guest assistant all day Saturday.

He wasn't shaking hands with anyone, and asked me to enforce it as far as possible. It was nothing personal against any of the attendees individually.

He chatted with everyone he could, and seemed to enjoy the conversations (except perhaps one which puzzled him, I think - but I'm not going into details). He was though tired from the flight over, and not sleeping well on the Friday night.

Clearly he loved B5 when he did it, but his recent work seemed to interest him more. I got the impression he hasn't a lot of time for most more recent TV science fiction.

Chatting with his Sunday guest assistant, it sounded much the same.

I've certainly had much harder guests to work with, and seen many who were less chatty with the attendees.

  7. I found it funny that he left his passport at home and had to go back for it.

    BL**DY HILARIOUS!

Especially for all the upset kids etc.

    snipped

You're not the only one. We had a couple of bad experiances. Our daughters had also had a bad day here.

Our posts on this blog also get attacked beacuse of "first time postings" but we only found this forum upon return from London. Like you, we also will not be attending any more events like that one.

Good luck with your signed autos. It seems SM only like the good comments, and remove/delete the bad. A pity but thats life with these people.

    D.M

Suggestion - when you've got a complaint, try talking to the people who can fix it, not the muppets who have a go at you for "first time postings".

No one deletes postings for being "first time postings" - if they did it would be impossible to post on here.

"Showmasters" info@showmastersonline.com is the place to post if you want to get your problems resolved properly. Here, although read by Showmasters, who do their best to [pick up on issues raised, it's largely "playing to the crowd".

  8.

The second gripe is the way the photos were managed after the photo shoots. There were a lot of people still waiting for pics to come out as it got close to 5pm when the show ends. Those who asked what to do if they have to leave before their photos arrive were told to write their details and a description of themselves on a piece of paper and they'd mail it out!

This didn't impress anyone since there were a lot of people who looked similar who all had photos taken and this meant there was no guarantee that they would get the right photo, but the crew member didn't seem particularly bothered.

I thought there was a procedure for people who, for whatever reason, can't be there to pick up the photos but if there was none of the crew seemed to know.

    Sian,

I'm not going to disagree with your gripe about this, but I do need to correct one point.

The crew did know that there was a process, and they did know what it was - it was the process you described in the paragraph above - that the person waiting for the photograph filled out their details on a paper form, including a description of what they looked like and were wearing, and that Showmasters would use this to match pictures and photographs, and mail them out.

As you'll see from further down the thread, some of these photos have already arrived.

The numbers did mean that we had to get more forms, and briefly during this period some people were asked to provide the same details on blank paper. More forms arrived shortly afterwards, so anyone who waited did get the proper form.

Obviously things didn't go as smoothly as they should have done, and there will be a 'post mortem' to sort out the communication issues which made it more difficult.

The initial problem though was a fairly simple one - an additional very popular early morning photo-shoot for Peter Fechmypassport and the laboratory not being able to start work early enough on a Sunday. Either would have been a surmountable problem, both together put us behind schedule.

  9. One group who I haven't seen mentioned, who deserve a vote of thanks.

The Earls Court 'resident' security staff.

From the point of view of a crew member who had to deal with them a number of times, they really made my life (especially on Sunday) a lot easier.

Queuing outside didn't go perfectly on Saturday. By Sunday they'd looked at what went wrong, re-organised how the 'queue to pay' queue was fitted in, and put it right.

When I went outside half an hour before opening on Sunday, they had already done a really good job of making sure that anyone who asked, or was looking lost had been routed to the correct queue. They were also very quick sorting out a couple of issues that I couldn't resolve directly.

So - thanks to the resident staff.

  10. OK, so I know we've had numerous topics with questions and whatnot, and we have a lot of new people to this event - either first timers to LFCC, or even first timers at any event!

I just wanted to give people a topic in case anyone wanted to double check anything, if you're still unsure about certain things etc, then please ask. I'd rather people were as relaxed as possible beforehand, and just look forward to the event!

I'm sure there's plenty of other info around to, so do search! But if you wanna ask, go ahead

What... is the air-speed velocity of an unladen swallow?

  11. What a fine idea for a thread - well done for starting it.

So -f you've come to this thread inpanic, here's a hint. Thousands of people will be attending the show. If you think you've something to panic about, it's likely to be affecting a god number f them too - but they're not all panicking. Why? First of all, they've probably read the FAQ. It has the words "Don't Panic" written on the cover in large friendly letters - and more importantly it has many of the answers to causes of panic inside.

Second;ly, they've realised that Showmasters, and the crew, have spent ages making sure there's nothing to panic about - becuase it makes their lives much easier too if people have no reason to panic.

So, relax, it'll all be alright.

  12. Hi all

The hotel is the Premier Inn in Earls Court this time.

    Kirstie

    From their website...

    "Additional information:

The bar and restaurant at this Premier Inn will be closed for refurbishment during some or all of the requested period, breakfast boxes will be available at an additional cost. For information on alternative evening catering, please contact the Premier Inn directly."

  13. Just after some clarification, is it ok to bring your own camera and have a photo with a guest? or do you have to do a photo shoot, it just makes meeting a guest go from approx £15 to £30 otherwise :P

    Bring your camera.

In general, it's fine to get a photo with a guest when you go up to get an autograph. It's considered rude just to go up and ask for a photo with them if you're not buying an autograph.

Some guest may have signs saying "No posed photographs". These are there for a number of reasons. The guest may have asked for them. They may find standing up for photographs then sitting down repeatedly hard work, especially if old; they may find the repeated flash hurts their eyes; they may have their own reasons; they may even just hav a hangover. Showmasters may have asked for them. In this case it's probably to speed the queue past a very busy guest, so that everyone gets a chance to buy an autograph.

A few guests may have a "No photographs" notice. Any of the above reasons may apply, but it is most likely to be the moving the queue reason.

Please try to have your camera switched on and ready before you arrive at the guest. Don't be surprised if a crew member offers to help you with a photograph - this is probably being done to speed the queue.

  14. " he didn't look at me, paused for a moment, quickly signed my photo, pushed it away, paused a moment, then pointed down at it and said "a half-hour television show!" in a tone that implied I had comitted the worst offence possible. He then folded his arms and turned his head away from my direction.

With this in mind i wonder how the chap who wanted Rooney to sign his SIMPSONS episode guide got on.

I saw him sign something with The Simpsons on it on Sunday. It was signed without comment.

  15. I don't 'spose anyone's going to own up to it. I wonder if it was the drink, or if it was just the stress of meeting one of the guests? "Hi I'm Ke Huy Quan" "BBbblllllaaarrrrgggghhh!"
The article says it happened after the dinner when everyone went to the casino so I'd say it was either the food or drink.

Of course, 'after the dinner' may not have been caused by ford or drink consumed at the dinner. ;-)

  16. Can anybody enlighten us to the Mickey Rooney 'incidents'/arguments. We past him in the foyer on Saturday night sat by himself, looking rather depressed. I met him on the Sun morning, and he seemed in an excellent mood. Anybody know what went on Saturday night??

He was tired on Saturday, from travelling over. He's an old chap (89 this year), and pretty deaf. A lot of the 'incidents' were his wife having to raise her voice so that he would hear what had to be said. I got the feeling there was a pretty fine line between when this was helpful, and when this left him frustrated. Still, they've been married 35 years!

On Saturday, he started off very much tucked away in the corner behind Ernest Bournine's queue, and this (although changed at lunchtime) seemed to set the tone for the day. His son told me he wasn't used to not being the busiest guest. On Sunday, sat with his wife between him and his guest assistant, he seemed much happier. She worked very hard, particularly helping him with personalisations, and things went much better.
