  1. Taking into acount the cost, are you prepared to have the material from the US if you need too? If so there is an outside chance I may be able to help you.

  2. It would be fantastic but there is no chance in hell. A few years ago he retired from acting and hasn't been seen in public much since. I read one newspaper report about a year or two ago that he was seen out playing golf which he loves and he didn't look well and looked old. They presumed it was age catching up on him once he stopped working and just slowed down.

  3. Hi Naurarwen,

    Thanks for the reply.

The last weekend con I went too didn't have photoshoots so ran a lot differently ans was probably a lot smaller. The morning started after breakfast with guest talks and a couple of workshops. After lunch you had an hour of signings and then more talks. About 5pm you had an hour of signing then it was break for dinner at 6pm and prep for the evening parties.

I got a lovely surprise at that one. A chance to meet one of the guests totally informally over breakfast. :) All the guests came down to the restaraunt for breakfast and mingled (no doubt because everyone respected their privacy and didn't hassle them) with the attendees when "off duty." I'm sat eating my breakfast as you do and I heard a voice asking if the seat was taken, or can they join me? I look up to say the seat isn't being used, please feel free and there I see Rene AuberJonois who played Odo in Star Trek DS9.

  4. I was sat at the cinema watching Ghost Rider 2 (wow that is a crap film) on Monday and I got me a thinking. There are comic cons, including a few big ones, but not everyone is into the comics, they just love the superhero films.

It would be hard to get big names, like Hugh Jackman, Christian Bale etc but there are so many jobbing actors that have played big or quite big parts in those films either as heroes or villains, henchmen, love interests etc that you have a wide encatchment area to pull guests from.

Equally the die-hard comic book fans would be an good fanbase for potential sales along with the fans that just like the film genre but don't buy comics, a bit like myself.

Between all the superhero films that are getting made at the moment along with shows such as Heroes, An Ordinary Family, Mutant X and so forth there could be potential in some kind of superhero/super powers convention.

If I'm available on the dates I would be interested and I havent read a comic in over 30 years. I just like the genre on the screen.

  5. I like the idea, especially of Castle.

The only thing I'm not so sure about is when you open it up to crime in general it could spread too thin. Lets say they could only get Nathan (I know lots of girls are happy already lol) and then they get someone from Law and Order, then someone from Murdoch Mysteries, then someone from Midsommer Murders and then one from Trial and Retribution. Would that draw people to the convention or make them think I'm only interested in Natan and maybe one other, I'll give it a miss because it's a lot of money just for those two and everything else on top?

Unless you are a die hard serious ove everything about the genre kind of fan I think it could be a hard sell. Definately Castle and maybe tie it in with one other similar light/comedy crime show such as Murdoch Mysteries or even New Tricks.

  6. I don't mean to sound funny but I'm a massive HP fan and I've never heard of Muggle Mayhem, where were they advertising it? I know loads of people that would of gone to it, most of my friend list on Facebook love HP.

I'm the same. I think there is a demand for a con, but if people don't know about it then they won't buy tickets.

I just looked up Muggle Mayhem and I'm not surprised that there was low ticket sales, the guests were mostly small parts. they needed some bigger stars and the ticket sales would of gone through the roof

I disagree with this, sorry! There have been numerous Star wars conventions over the years without Mark, Carrie or Harrison. There have also been James Bond conventions which have never had Sean, Roger, Pierce or even George Lazenby.

People are aware that big names are unlikely to do them and even if they are announced they could pull out at anytime because of work commitments.

I'm going to The Games which IMO should be an interesting event purely because it's event based on a series of books and one film (hopefully part of the whole trilogy) that opens about 8 weeks before the con.

Most cons tend to be built up around TV series and most of the main guests are the stars or reccuring characters. If John Hurt had been announced for Muggle Mayhema nd he didn't cancel due to work commitments, how much would he realistically have to say about his role in the Potter films? His first outing in HPATPS may have been 3-4 days work.

There have been two Potter cons that have taken place, one with just one guest (Tonks) and another is happening this year. So it can work, if done properly and that starts with the promotion more than getting the big three, or seven if you count Rickman, Smith, Gambon and Coltraine

  7. Hi TT and anyone else reading this.

Thanks for the run down of what and when.

This will be my first ME convention so know nothing of what to expect. Will there be other things happening in the mornings during the signings and photoshoots?

You can only walk around and around a dealers room so many times before you look like you are sussing the place out to shoplift or soak in the bath for so long before you resemble a wrinkled prune.

I've not been to an convention for a couple of years which was an one day thing. My last full weekender was about 13 years ago. Where have those years gone? This will be my first non Doctor Who or Star trek one so it should be interesting.
