  1. HE EVEN SOUNDS LIKE PICARD!

    Lovely chap and very down to earth.

    {swoon}

    I saw him last year after LFCC on his way home on the tube in full costume totally unfased by people looking at his as if that was a normal journey for the Enterprise captain.
    Ohhhh I wish I could have seen that... the confidence!! Mind you... I'd ask him to keep his uniform on all day too ;)
  2. Just starting this thread up so if there was anyone that caught your eye :thumbup: but you never had the chance (or courage!) to swap details with etc... why not see if they are out there on the forum.

    I must admit... I have a penchant for the Jean Luc lookey-likey that walks around in his uniform ;)

  3. My advice is always to take your own food. Then you know what it costs and that you'll get something you like. I've tried experimenting with bento to get around the allergy issue but sandwiches are quick, cheap and easy. :)

    I usually do (which is why I think the available selection was such a shock!)... but getting up at 5:00, to leave at 06:30, to get there for 9am... kinda stopped that this time.

  4. Lighting seemed to be effecting my camera a lot, it wanted to keep autofocusing... but I got what I came for... pictures of the wonderful John Hurt! ;) {Sorry about my shocked look in the picture, camera was taking ages to go off and I started talking!}

  5. He called me sweetheart...twice. {swoon}

    But seriously... after being a John Hurt fan for over 35 years (I first saw him in a 1972 film called Mr Forbush and Penguins) he was the reason I came to the show. He's an icon, a legend... and he had a queue for autos all day long (I think his price very very reasonable considering his stature!) and deservedly so.

    He was also a gentlemen all day... nice chats at table & during photos, great personalisations and table photos too... until later in the day (fair enough as he is over 70!). His talk was wonderful and the fact that he said thanks to everyone, that he had really enjoyed his day, showed what a pro (and nice man!) he is.

    Love him... always have... always will.

  6. My feedback is mostly positive:-

    1. VTs were handled well, I was in the door at 10 past 9 and got an early JH VT which was great :YAHOO:

    2. Photo collection was much better organised BUT names were ticked on the list as "out" when not all pics were out, causing unnecessary confusion and worry as to where some peoples photos were. Loved the gloves, the way the pics were laid out and the signage (especially the "no touching"!) :thumbup:

    3. Seemed to be more room in the talks (which means I got to see three!), but sound at the back was terrible. :huh:

    4. It was much, much, much less crowded that LFCC11, which was good as more room to browse the dealers and generally move about (plus no queue for the loo!)

    5. Everyone I chatted to or bumped in to, or asked for photos with were lovely and polite… as always (yes that’s YOU I am talking about) :D

    BUT on the negative side:-

    1. Aircon was not on to start, it only got turned on when the heat really started to effect people (and the fanboy funk!)... there were times that my mum (dressed in just skirt and blouse) felt like she was gonna pass out! :blink:

    2. The selection (and price!) of available food in the two cafes was ATROCIOUS! Sausage or Bacon rolls in the morning, Steak Pasty or Hot Dog (at over £4!) in the afternoon... ahem vegetarians? ;)

    3. Hall itself seemed rather...errr… scummy and tatty... no carpet, dirty concrete floor, awful chipped paint garage type door at the guest signing area... really not conducive to prestigious guest signing!! :o

  7. @Bigbangpenny hi hi darling!! i do remember you yes, you were fun to chat with and we had a right little giggle together before i had to limp off! lol. i coped better then i thought i would at the convention thanks for asking!

    Aww glad to hear it! Perhaps we shall meet again at the next one! You made me feel quite at ease lining up to have my (first ever!) photoshoot taken with the "tin dog"... and you must go back and watch some of the old Dr Who episodes starring K9... especially those with Tom Baker! (Best Dr of all time <grin>)

    Take care of you!

  8. {swoon} He's one of my dream meets.

    I wrote to him when I was younger after seeing a film called 10 Rillington Place and he had just finished filming "I, Claudius" he wrote back and told me what he was working on at the time. I wrote to him again in 1980 and he wrote me a lovely letter about the film he was working on at that time and how the make-up took 7 hours to put on... it was The Elephant Man.

    I am swooning at the thought of actually meeting him "in real skin"

  9. Well done bigbangpenny. I hope you will join other SM events in the future. They can only get better and better.

    How did you mum's encounter with Derek Jacobi go?

    Oh we will! We are already planning on going to EMS in October!

    Mum's meeting with Sir Derek was amazing. I was really worried for her when I watched her go into the Photoshoot (as she was soooooo nervous and he looked fairly nervous too). When it was her turn she said her heart was thumping through her chest (aww). I was able to watch through the doorway (thanks nice chaps who let me check mum was ok!) and saw my mum quietly ask if she could put her arm round him and he said "Ohhh let me put my arm round you" so she has a lovely photo of them with their arms round each other and both of them are beaming at that camera. My mum also got the chance to talk to him and say how long she had been a fan and he responded and grasped her hand with both of his. She pretty much floated out the photoshoot. Later on she also got an auto with him and he was really sweet then too. For the rest of the day, I (metaphorically) had to tie a string to mum's leg to keep her down on earth LOL!

  10. I really didn't want to get my head kicked in

    Really? You actually perceived that as a likely possibility? Either in front of thousands of witnesses at the show itself or in broad daylight in the fairly civilised streets of West London afterwards? It's a convention for sci-fi and cult film/TV/comics, not some illegal dogfight or badger baiting. The only thing you're likely to be assaulted by is the very occasional aroma of the odd attendee with an overelaxed approach to personal hygiene.

    Don't underestimate people's aggression; I was at the recording of "Eurovision: Your Country Needs You" (yes I know... really LOL!) and my friends and I had been there all day and through perseverance and patience managed to secure front of stage standing positions for the final recording. We were told we would have to dance and smile for the camera and we were glad to.

    However, 5 minutes into the live recording three girls pushed their way to the front and elbowed me and my friends in the back and kicked us until we final gave in and let them in front of us. They never danced or smiled and the cameras had to keep stopping short of getting their sour-puss faces on the TV.

    Eventually I plucked up the nerve to explain they had to look like they were enjoying themselves if they wanted to stand at the front and was told "we're only here to see the Sugarbabes". When I explained the Sugarbabes had been on earlier in the day (their 'live' segment had been filmed in the afternoon) one of them pushed me, while the other kicked my friend and pulled her hair. And there was nothing the staff could do, even though they saw what was happening, as the show was going out live (live live... no 10 minute delay!) and they couldn't get to us. The girls were finally escorted out when a film clip was shown and staff could get to us.

    So as much as you might not necessarily get 'your head kicked in' other people can make it very awkward and painful for you if you "squeal them up" or fail to let them get their own way!!

  11. thanks to tootall for the letter he gave me which aloud me to enter without que because of my disability. I don't know her name but the girl with dark hair in photo area A on Sunday who helped me to the front of the line each time and watched out for me, she was a sweetheart!

    Heyyy its you! Hi Hi! I was in the (side) queue with you for the K9 Photoshoot on Saturday and I commented that your "fangs" looked great! Was lovely meeting you! Hope you coped with the weekend and had a great time!

  12. Hi guys.

    I have been an auto hunter since I was 13 (mumble mumble years ago) but I have never attended a con before. I am a huge Sci-Fi fan (and Whovian) so why I have never attended a con I have no idea, I guess I didn't realise they existed.

    The only reason why I came along to the LFCC on Saturday was because my mum (who is 70) has been a lifelong fan of Derek Jacobi. She used to write to him (before he was in I Claudius and was a jobbing actor) but had never met him. Randomly I saw an ad for LFCC and saw that Sir Derek would be there and I thought, "My mum would love to meet him", so I booked 3 tickets (me, mum and my brother) and we came along at 11am... not realising just how big the whole event would be.

    Now I have been to many different types of events; The Ideal Home Expo, Motorshows, specialist Craft Shows and even have a large stand twice a year at a show myself... and this means I am used to the crowds (not that I like them!) and the pushing and shoving... but one thing that was different at LFCC was that every time someone had to squeeze past me or accidently bumped into me (or mum) every single one of you were polite, apologetic and lovely (apart from three girls who thought it was funny to run through crowds shouting "Barge Barge Barge"). No-one tried to push past unnecessarily, queues were neat and polite and everyone I lined up next to were friendly, chatty and... well... just plain lovely.

    My brother was in his element (being a fan of everything and everyone there!) and there was so much to do and look at we could have come again and still not seen and done everything we wanted. The organisation and scale of the event was fabulous. (And hats off to the Cosplay chaps and chapesses who are so accomodating and really add to the event).

    I have been reading the forum the last couple of days (to keep the feeling alive!) and was sad to see some negative comments and was quite surprised... as compared to other events, shows, expos in other areas (like motorshows etc) the convention, the attendees and the organisation of such an event was a dream. (In summary, "you don't know how good you have got it!")

    Thank you Showmasters, Thank you Crew, Thank You Guests and Thank You Attendees... you all made three "Con Virgins" very happy indeed... and we'll be back! :lol:

  13. A lot of people saying they use ring binders with plastic sleeves. But don't this deteriorate the autograph?

    I asked at a stall about acid free ones and they said they don't exist and are cons.

    Acid Free ones certainly do exist and are certainly not cons. I run a scrapbooking business and everything I sell for the archival preservation of photos is Acid and Lignin free (and the same archival quality as used in museums).

    (Lignin is what makes paper yellow and Acid erodes paper)

  14. Hi,

    I kept looking at autographs that this dealer was selling, but didn't get their name. I remember that they had a large framed photo of all of the Star Trek Original Series cast, signed by them all as well, for £1100. They also had a new series Battlestar Galactica framed photo of the Last Supper scene signed by everyone in it for £450.

    Does this ring any bells to anyone? Much appreciated for any help you guys and gals can muster.:lol:

    It sure does as I was looking at the TOS photo for £1100 too and had a good chat with the owner. I asked if he sold online and he gave me a card. The company was Galaxy Autographs.
