A case of Ecklie

As Ecklie walked into the break room, he nodded at a few day shift personnel. He didn’t know their names. It didn’t really matter. He made a move to the coffee pot. Nothing waked him up better in the morning.

As Ecklie walked into his office, he walked passed Gil Grissom, graveyard shift.

“Hi†said Gil in a cheery mood.

Ecklie blanked him. He had a deep loathing for Gil. One of his most hidden secrets involved him. It was probably the reason for all the hate and competition.

Ecklie wanted to be more like Gil Grissom.

After handing out assignments to all of his subordinates, for that’s all he considered them, he went about doing his job. Out to the crime scene he drove in his Tahoe. He arrived and was briefed by a police officer.

“Looks like a suicide. The body’s untouched.â€

“Ok†Grunted Ecklie. This would be an easy one.

After 2 hours of dusting for prints, searching for footprints and other trace evidence, he finally went to analysing the evidence. He thought to himself; could he have done a better job?

After waiting for results at the lab, the only evidence he could find was the presence of the victim’s best friend, who had apparently been there the day before. There was no other evidence that he had been involved.

Case closed.

Two weeks later, Ecklie got a call. The victim had come into the police station and confessed to the crime. Ecklie felt that burning feeling rise up inside him again.

If only he’d been more like Gil Grissom.
