I mean John obviously would be one for Torchwood, Star Trek and was of course in Breaking Bad.

is there any reason Avery won’t do another event or have I missed something?

He seems to have washed his hands of doing any events and acting over the last 10 years or so.

Ah I didn’t know if something malicious had happened at an event previous as often causes guests to not attend

I dont know, but he was also the only actor to refuse to doing any interviews for the recent DS9 documentary.

Possible he wants to wash his hands of the series, I mean he could be annoyed that he’s done so many projects and all he gets remembered for is being the best Star Trek captain, a lot of actors can be like that Leonard Nimoy for example had his first autobiography entitled “I am not Spock” but came around to it all and entitled his second autobiography “I am spock”.

if anything I know a lot of Doctor who fans wanted to track down and interview Annette Robinson who was Ann Chaplet in “the Massacre” and the first mrs John Hurt but she went underground and that was that no one can find her, similar situation with Claire Jenkins who was Tanya Lernov in “the wheel in space” she quit acting and because of the common name no one has dug her up, assuming she is still alive.

John Simm blows hot and cold with Doctor Who, I'm guessing he's been flooded with people wanting him to sign Doctor Who images at the stage door, as I've read somewhere else, he only stopped to sign for someone as it was a Life on Mars image.

The way round that would be to say, you are only signing show programs like a lot of other actors do

When you’ve done a wide variety of work it may begin to drag you down for only being remembered for the one thing, and the main difference id argue between someone like Colin and Sylvester being remembered solely for Doctor who (I dunno did McCoy do something hobbit related) is that they came from eras of shows not having the biggest longevity and if they did the show wouldn’t typically get a home media release, IE one of the longest shows of the period was the Bill and that wasn’t exactly gonna be on home media during the 90s and 00s, but for Simm he’s done a ton of work like Life on Mars amongst other things so just for him to be doing plays and other productions and no one caring enough to take in what he’s then doing and just have someone asking for Doctor who would eventually get under your skin, the box office may be great and people may be there for you but not for the reasons you want.

I think if the fans are taking liberties at the stage door, then he might be more inclined to avoid doing any shows in the short-term

I’m reminded of how an actor did an ask me anything on Reddit but during it he kept specifying that only questions in relation to his current project, and everyone kept ignoring that and asking other questions in relation to other work and roles.

didn’t end well to say the least

Well once again to convey bad news for this forum Nick Hobbs who had many many roles in Doctor who but best known for his role as Aggador has passed away recently his age unknown, Hobbs other roles included Mr Nainsby in “Amy’s choice” and plenty of UNIT soldiers over the years

Well, the mistake was making it an ask me anything and then being surprised when you get asked other questions.

Sad times indeed

He was the last actor I met before everything shut down in 2020

I remember him being booked for LFCC in 2020 but he didn’t actually appear and I assumed that was my only chance to meet him, but I managed it and I have him on these sets (complete with whose on said sets):

The Ambassadors of death:

  • John Levene (Sergeant John Benton)
  • Geffory Beavers (Private Johnson)
  • Nick Hobbs (UNIT Soldier)
  • Mike Stevens (UNIT Soldier)
  • Les Conrad (Police officer/Stunts)
  • Margot Heyhoe (Assistant Floor Manager/Name on Van)

The Claws of Axos:

  • Katy Manning (Jo Grant)
  • Nick Hobbs (UNIT Soldier/Axon)

The Time Monster:

  • Katy Manning (Jo Grant)
  • John Levene (Sergeant John Benton)
  • Richard Franklin (Captain Mike Yates)
  • Wanda Moore (Dr Ruth Ingram)
  • Aidan Murphy (Hippias)
  • Nick Hobbs (UNIT Soldier)
  • Mike Stevens (UNIT Soldier/Stunts)
  • Melville Jones (Guard)
  • Gregory Powell (Stunts)

The Monster of Peledon:

  • Nick Hobbs (Aggador)
  • Paul Cornell (Himself - On Target: Terrance Dicks)

The Ark in space:

  • Nick Hobbs (Wirin)
  • Philip hinchcliffe (Producer)

so thankfully on the one time I met him I had some great foresight to net a few signatures, and as you may appreciate I do have a few other deceased names on some of those sets which honestly makes me sadder

If I recall, he was only the last person I met at the spring LFCC, as he was hidden round one of the side areas, so I 'd almost given up on finding him and assumed he hadn't turned up, being the pandemic was in its early stages, I wouldn't have blamed him.

He was also in a brief scene in Rogue One alongside Richard Franklin

I didn’t know he was at that event I’d been told by staff he hadn’t attended, which is annoying then again that event even had a page dedicated to who’d cancelled in the early stages likely as a result of the disaster that was around the corner

That’s usually what tends to happen as whilst the theatre wouldn’t conflict with TV shows and actors (of a certain class and sophistication, can name a load who wouldn’t fall into this) tend to prioritise the stage over the silver screen, but whilst they’re doing esteemed works and someone says “can you sign this” may get to you after a while, if it’s a blank page, maybe that’s okay if it’s a DVD cover then less likely, my coworker said Jodie Whitaker won’t even do stage door because too many people keep asking for Doctor who signatures.

Also we’re in the new year, let’s hope things improve in certain areas from the last year, hell I gotta remember to not put 2024 in my tracker book, which admittedly is only coming up on a year but still if someone looked at that and saw how much I’d spent they’d either kick me or rob me

apparently Jodie had been saying she would do doctor who at conventions only

It makes sense if you want to only sign certain stuff at certain times, especially if you’re there to only do that one thing, I’ve mentioned before but April 2023 Garrick Haggon was at a Doctor who event and was only signing Doctor who stuff much to the annoyance of people who wanted Star Wars Merch signed, so it makes sense that Jodie would only signed Doctor who stuff or other fandoms at events

Also, how many are actually fans or have seen the show, and are just their to get items signed to sell on.

The play Sigourney Weaver is performing, are turning people away if you dont have a ticket for the nights show, and turn up before the play has finished. She is also only signing the show program.

With sigourney it’s gonna go double time she’s one of the most iconic actors of the past 50 years thanks to Alien and can you imagine only being remembered for the one role and then you may have a packed showing of your latest play, but everyone outside couldn’t care less but are Alien fans looking to get merch signed, and really she could charge a damn premium on that one given it’s only her Tom Skerritt and Veronica Cartwright left, really if I was Cartwright I’d be crapping it given that if you’re going by directors cut they’ve all died in that order, so if she does happen to die before Skerritt and Weaver outlives them both, I’d honestly be scared to hell and back.

but back to my point it will get annoying after a while because the theatre is still considered a prestige to work for where there are few productions and given they’re always live performances you have to have the old class of acting that TV used to have before services like Sky came in

With Dean Hollingsworth being announced elsewhere, I'm only Mike Tucker away from replicating my greatest Show cover, just without personalisations. With Stephen Wyatt and Janet Hargeaves as added extras. So a nice start to the new year already
