Great day at LFCC but...

Recommended Posts

The only thing that I had a small issue with was that we had to walk to the other side of the building to collect our diamond passes then walk all the way back to the other side to go in.

I thought last year you collected the diamond passes after you showed your tickets to go.

Can next year the diamond pass collection be at the same place as you enter please.

I completely agree - I didn't realise that the diamond passes had to be collected from a different place, and after I had gone in was told that I had to go back outside to Gate B to collect it.  Thought that was odd, and if it hadn't been for a lovely crew member who had noticed I had got my hand stamped, and allowed me to enter again, I would have had to have queued again and would have missed the morning photo shoot with John Barrowman.

Things can change from year to year with how things work at the show so it's best to look out for all the posts that come out near to the event and make sure you read them - it was posted here and on Facebook.

There's normally something different each year as they tweak things to try and make them work better, so there's a chance DP collection may stay where it is, time will tell.

I know where it was before hand, I just think it would have been better to have it closer to the entrance to save people waking all the way round than back again.

Thanks - I'll know for the future to look on here before coming to the event, so I know what the procedure is.   I hadn't been to the event for seven years, so can appreciate that the procedure would have changed in the intervening years

I have a double nephrostomy (bags from my kidneys bypassing my bladder) which need emptying every couple of hours but otherwise don't look disabled, although I have a blue badge for parking I feel like I'd be cheating getting an extra assistance pass even though I can only stand for an hour maximum before my back becomes unbearable and become tired very quickly.   Not every disability is visible.

I'm going to invest in a seat stick for next time because there will never be dedicated seating, as has been said we've been asking on the feedback survey for years.   It would have been lovely to walk from the car park into the building instead of having to walk all the way around to the entrance.

Yes, why can't the people asking for extra assistance have a fast track entrance into the building as well? We must have walked another mile from the station to the entrance. At that point my legs were fresh and I wasn't having problems walking...it was actually almost FIVE HOURS before I collapsed against the wall.

Not to take away from your point but it's 0.2 of a mile, if that, from the station to the entrance, it's very close.

I agree.  I overheard the tannoy say that we were going in first.  Then as I was walking up the stairs, 2-3 people flew past me.  I said to my sister (who was my carer) that if there was an incident similar to Manchester, it would be a nightmare to get out and certainly unsafe (as I also saw people sitting on the stairs during the day).

People sitting on the stairs.

That is exactly the problem.

SEATS.

Maybe an area with a small charge (yes, London. SMALL, as in a couple of quid for daily access) for access to seating would be an option? Because everything else was charged for, and then some. £2.25 for 100ml of water, ffs.

There was a chill out area, but floor seating only.

Unfortunately there is little influence SM have on the pricing of the food/drink at the venue.

I agree with you there Raylenth.  It's relatively pretty near from the station.

  • 2 weeks later...

I had an amazing time at LFCC.  Some incredible moments that vastly outweighed the bad stuff.

Luckily, I only had bad issue at the convention.  It was more of a confused disappointment than anything else.  I had a diamond pass shoot on the Saturday morning.  I was told when I got close to getting my photo taken 'no hugs'.  This I thought fine, no problem and went in for a normal pose.   I then noticed the guest tried to do a hug pose but pulled back last minute.  Upset that it might end being an awkward horrible shot I nearly rushed out forgetting my photo.

After the session I noticed that other people who had been near me in the shoot had gotten hug poses.   I now felt like I had been specifically targeted especially as I remember the request for no hugs came from an event staff member who was very commanding and targeting me.  I had made no indication of wanting a hug pose as I always ask the guest if I am thinking of requesting one so I was utterly confused and disappointed with the photo experience.  I know the guest has no problem with hug poses before at other events so I was surprised.

I have since established that another fan kissed the guest in their photo.   This is a guest I know has a no kissing rule/policy.   I think she did it without the guest's consent and because I look quite similar to her I think I was targeted.

While the photo, thankfully, is great my experience was unpleasant.  Quite possibly down to the behaviour of another fan.   I'm not happy at this fan as not only I might have missed out on a hug pose shot especially as my chances of getting another are slim to nonexistent as I'm now very ill (LFCC 2019 is my last London event for a while due to developing heart valves issues) but also it is very disrespectful to the guest.   It was upsetting experience but I don't blame the guest, the guest's PA or the event staff for reacting the way they had.   I do feel for the guest as it must have been an uncomfortable experience for them.

This is a PSA to fans, think about your behaviour with guests.   What you do can have an impact on guests and other fans.   Respect is absolute key.

The rest of the event for me and my friends was amazing and guests I met were amazing.  Thank you SM.

The problem is the people who do it simply don't care.  It's not that hard, especially in this day and age, to understand that touching someone or kissing them without their permission is sexual assault (and pinching/cupping bums counts as this).  But they do it, no one can stop them because the crew can't read minds, and they get their photo/interaction.  They don't care how it affects the guest or other people because they wouldn't do it if they did.

The amount of people I have seen in various facebook pages this year who say publicly 'I'm doing this and no one can stop me' is shocking.  And when everyone politely told them why they couldn't they didn't care, they just got abusive towards everyone.  On the plus side at least saying it publicly meant they could be reported to SM, which I know a couple of the group members did.

Sorry that it ruined your photo, and that you won't be able to come to events for a while.

Legolassie Malfoy, I'm sorry for your experience. It may have been a case of "mistaken identity", or really just random. I got a "no hugs" as well in that session, so maybe the Crew was telling every 10th Person or so. ;)

I hope your Health improves soon, and I am glad you got to see Jason at this Event at least.

As for the entitlement People, yeah, that seems to get worse each year, but everywhere. Even at a Parade in Disney we had someone trying to push their Kids in front of us. Problem was that the Kids were at least 12, the older About 15, and really tall. I'm not exactly TooTall size, so them in front of us would have meant me and my Friends had not seen a Thing. The Father was so incredibly pushy, kept insisting they had to go in front because they are "just Kids." Even the "Kids" were telling him to "just go" because they were embarassed.

This happened in Disney a few years ago for me, me and my sister in law got to light show 2 hours early pitched a good seat but not right in front of the fireworks of to the side so not in the way of kids, about ten minutes before a couple with there’s kids banged into us and told us to move out the way because there children, when we said no they got pushy and keep pushing us when we didn’t move the dad got quite angry and verbally abused us and then hit me and my sister in law around the head, let’s just say after we weren’t moving and he got a kick in the shins

You really seem to have a lot of bad luck with other patrons at events. That’s a truly horrible story and I feel so bad for you and your sis in law. I’d personally have contacted the Police in that instance. That’s proper assault. Despicable behaviour. Imagine wanting to take your kids to see the magical tales of Disney and then behaving like that towards others and setting that example. Abhorrent.

Six years in a row we went and this was the first year we had an issue like that normally we go early in the week on the trip but had to go over a weekend for this one. Meant everything was busier and heightened emotions think it may be something to do with the fact we where two woman in our own and not with a family however if you queue for two hours ur not gonna give up your spot no matter who it is. It’s because I’m rubbish at talking back I have terrible luck in that sense been told to speak up more i for peace lol

Have Showmasters ever considered publicising a zero tolerance approach to behaviour in the photo areas. Perhaps if people were aware that any inappropriate behaviour towards guests resulted in no photo and a ban from future events. Harsh but fairer for the majority who know how to behave in a civilised manner but still have fun. The guests are after all human and have a right to expect the correct behaviour towards them. There is always the prospect that guests may refuse to come in future. I was fortunate that I didn't witness first hand any of the despicable behaviour described so it is definitely a small minority.

Definitely worth considering but is it something that’s easily enforceable? Yes offenders can be asked to leave the shoot and security used to escort them from the venue but how do you enforce a ban? Anybody can buy a ticket on behalf of someone. The message might be enough to get across to some people though and like you say it definitely is a small majority who seem determined no matter what.

Well at the least you can refuse to give them the photo print (with the proviso they will be refunded obviously), throw them out of the show, even if just for the day, and make sure the jpegs don't go up either.  But yeah, it's hard to enforce.

I wouldn’t even give them a refund. Break the rules (especially in that unacceptable way) and you’re out, no photo, no refund.

Thank you @Raylenth and @Queen_Sindel.   While the photo experience was disappointing I'm over the moon that the rest of the convention went well.

It sucks that there is entitled selfish people out there and the number seems to be growing.  I wonder if it is down to the internet and people feeling the need to outdo each other.  Unfortunately, it does ruin things for others and it must make for an awful experience for the guest.

I definitely an advocate of putting out there signs respecting the guests ('Celebrity is not Consent' or something similarly titled).   An uncomfortable/unhappy guest won't want to come back and certainly will become distant with the fans.

I was lucky afterwards that the guest in the autograph session was good at explaining to me that I wasn't at fault in any way and gave me an amazing autograph experience (yes, it was Jason Isaacs).

Thank you to those who have given their get well wishes.   I'm determined to get through the heart valves trouble and return to LFCC in the future.

The only issue i had with the weekend was smokers !!

The only exit we could use was cluttered with smokers , EVERYWHERE!! There was literally nowhere to go outtside to get any fresh air on saturday as every spot was occupied , not only immediately outside the door..... over the road , by the pub , down the road opposite entrance H !!

PLEASE find a central point where they can ALL go, away from an access door and leave the rest of the place smoke free

There's nothing Showmasters can do about this I'm afraid. If you get in touch with Olympia maybe they can control certain areas a bit, but I doubt it.

Don't worry though, they'll all be dead soon.
